Chapter 1
"God, I'm sooo bored." I thought, slinging the sack of potatoes and other vegetables over my shoulder. I was running some errands for the neighbor, so I could get some extra cash. I lived in a neighborhood on the larger side, since we lived in the New York suburbs. But everyone was pretty nice, despite what people say about New Yorkers. I had been thinking about how much she'd pay me, when I heard it. There was some music faintly playing around the corner of the block I was walking along. Interest pricked me, and instead of turning left at the intersection like I was supposed to, I turned right.
The music was growing louder, and there was something oddly familiar about it. It wasn't a bad kind of familiar, either. It was actually sort of comforting. That's when I realized that the sound was coming from the Grand Ole Theatre.
"But it's Sunday..." I thought. "...And the Theatre is closed on Sundays." This was truly mysterious, as the doors were wide open. "Perhaps it's just an employee grabbing something they left yesterday." I thought. "Or maybe they're just turning off whatever is making that music...yeah, that's probably it. They're just turning off the music. Maybe they need help? I'll go find out if they need help. If they don't, then I'll just be on my way." I considered with a firm nod. And I entered the Theatre.
The music was still going strong as I stood outside the door to the room with the music playing. I reached for the handle, but froze. It felt as though eyes were staring into the back of my head. "Is someone watching me?" I wondered. I turned around and looked in vain, but couldn't see anyone. "It's too dark to see someone, anyway." I thought.
"This is sooo freaky!" I thought, walking into the room with the music. It suddenly stopped as I entered the room, and without the light of the big screen it was suffocatingly dark and quiet. "Looks like the employee dowesn't need my help after all." I thought, turning around. I was walking towards the door when it slowly creaked to a shut. "What the hell?!" I thought, jogging towards the door. I tried the handle, but it didn't budge. Panic gripped my heart, but I kept reason in my brain.
I slowly backed away from the door, preparing myself for ramming into the door. I took a deep breathe, exhaled, and ran at the door. I rammed it with my shoulder as hard as I could, and it gave way, mercifully. "Thank God!" I thought. But my victory was short lived. "Crap," I thought. "Is it even darker than before?" I looked around but could see nothing.
"But... wait. Is... is that a person? Maybe it was that employee! They'll know how to get out of here!" There was a man at the end of the hall, just staring at me. Well, it was probably a man. It was so dark I could barely make out their outline!"I'll be out and home in no time!" I thought joyfully. "Hey, mister! Do you know how to get outta here?!" I shouted.
