CHAPTER 8
AS SOON as Mia started the car, she noticed the black mercedes tailing her. She knew they were Jehan's people and ignored them.
It's not like she can run away. She's in a country she's unfamiliar with and the only person she knows is Jehan.
She stopped the car in front of a big building. MAT HQ it says right up front.
She got out of her car and entered the building, noticing Jehan's men following her from behind.
"Hi, Good Morning! How may I help you?" The front desk woman greeted her.
"I'm looking for Mr. Jio Mateo." She said, making the front desk woman's eyes widen.
"The President?" She asked Mia.
Mia raised an eyebrow, "Oh so he's the President... yes, i'd like to speak to him."
"I can't help you, Ma'am. I do not see your name on the list. Plus, you can't talk to the President unless you've set an appointment." She explained.
"Oh. How do I set an appointment with him then?" Mia asked.
The woman awkwardly smiled, "You can't. Only family members can set an appointment with him. Mr. Mateo only sets the appointment if he needs the people outside the family."
Mia scoffed, "What a load of bullshit." She whispered to herself.
"Excuse me?" The woman furrowed her brows.
Mia smiled, "Why don't you give him a call and tell him I'm here to talk? He knows who I am."
"I can't do that. I do not have the authority -"
"His secretary. Call his secretary." Mia cut her off.
The woman sighed, "Ma'am, if you do not have your name on the list, i'm afraid I cannot help you. Please leave."
"I'm telling you to call him because I have something really important to talk about." Mia spat.
"I can't do that, Ma'am. I'm sorry-"
"For God's sake." She pulled put her phone and dialed the only registered number on her contact list.
Jehan Mateo
ringing...
"Hello?" He answered.
Mia put it on loudspeaker and showed the screen to the woman, "I have something to discuss with your big bro but the front desk won't let me."
The woman's eyes widened and covered her mouth with her hands.
"Discuss what?" Jehan asked.
"You'll find out soon. Apparently, I can't see him cause I'm not a family member so why don't you set up an appointment for us?" Mia asked Jehan, raising an eyebrow at the front desk woman.
"Okay. Hold on."
As soon as Jehan said that, the telephone on the front desk rang. The woman was startled and looked at Mia.
Mia tilted her head, waiting for her to answer the phone.
The woman's hand trembled as she picked up the phone, "T-This... This is MAT Headquarters how may I help you?"
"This is Jehan Mateo speaking. Set an appointment for Mia Agatha right now for the President." Jehan said.
The woman had visible ripples of sweat sliding down her forehead, "T-That... Umm. Mr. President is currently in a meeting. I can't-"
"Just tell him." Jehan cut her off.
"Yes, right away. Mr. Mateo-" the phone call ended.
The woman slowly put the telephone down and faced Mia. Mia crossed her arms as she watched the woman dial another number.
"H-Hello? Mr. President? This is the front desk. Someone wants to speak with you." She said.
"Who?" Jio's voice was heard.
The woman looked at Mia, "Mia Agatha, Sir."
A moment of silence before he spoke again, "Tell her to come to my office."
And the call ended. The front desk woman slowly put down the telephone and bowed to Mia.
"Let me escort you to the President's office-" She said making Mia bow in return.
Mia smiled, "Lead the way."
They entered the elevator and went up to highest floor. The door opened and was welcomed by the President himself leaning against his table.
"Miss Agatha." He smiled.
Mia forced a smile and sat on the couches in the center of the room. The front desk woman and the male secretary left the two of us alone.
"So you really are the President." Mia tilted her head.
"Yes." He nodded and sat in front of me.
Mia sighed, "That's your alibi."
Jio furrowed his brows at her, "Alibi?"
"You've got everything you have. This position, a wife, the surname Mateo..." Mia stood up and showed Jio the papers.
"So... why did you frame me that night?" Mia continued.
Jio went silent for a while and stared at Mia with equal intimidation as if he was silently cursing at her face.
Jio suddenly chuckled, "Bold of you to say something like that inside my company all alone."
She walked towards that glass wall and looked down at the height of the top floor.
"I'm not alone." She said, looking down at the four black cars that Jehan sent to watch over her.
Jio sighed and stood up, "Well, you're free to accuse me. You'll need a concrete evidence if you want the truth."
"The truth? From you? No, Mr. President. The truth will come from me. You outsmarted me that night. But I've been a fraudulent con artist since the very first time I smelled money." Mia walked towards him and handed down the USB that Rachel gave her before they separated.
"Watch your back, Jio oppa." She said and left the building.
She drove Jehan's car and went to the mall. She rummaged through her jacket and pulled out the card that one of Jehan's men handed to her.
She sighed, "I can't keep wearing dresses everyday and walk in these torture heels all day too. Plus the asshole brought me to this country with nothing but that ragged casino uniform and a jacket. He could've at least packed a luggage for me but that'll take a miracle. Anyway..." she thought.
"Now let's see how much you have in here." She told herself with a smirk after arriving at the mall.
