Chapter one

Sleep?

Skylar couldn't sleep.

How could she sleep?!!

She stared silently at the tiled, silver lined ceiling in a strange room that was her's for the night. Playing the event of the week over and over again in her head.

It has been one of the darkest week in her life. The second most darkness to be exact.

First she found out that her best friend Piper (Skylar has two best friends. Like a trinity group. Skylar, Tin, and Piper) was cheating on her with her boyfriend, a.k.a the two faced monster. Nathan.

And when she asked for an explanation, all the blame was pushed on her. He said––

'She was too....Plain, simple, tasteless (always and forever will be) not alluring, doesn't fit, tomboyish. That he never really liked her, that the relationship was all her fault.'

And as if it wasn't enough, it got caught up in rumors, where the knife was turned towards her. Painting her as the bad guy. The internet literally turned against her. Spam, harassment, assault, mental stress.

What had she not gone through?

Then there is Grayson, who literally appeared out of nowhere.

What is his motive in approaching her?

Nathan and Grayson had never gotten along back in high school.

Does he have some bad plans for her? What does he wants from her.

Her phone chirmed and she rolled over, sweeping it off the small reading table at the edge of the bed.

'i am at your door.' Tin.

With one glance, she threw the phone to the other side of the bed. Burying her head in her arms while rocking back and forth.

"I.... c—can... get...... th—through.. this—this." She cheered herself, bitting back the tears. "I—I... can... g—get... through... this."

"I—i have..... been th—through..... worst." She sniffed softly, her round chubby face heated in sorrow.

"I ha—aven't.... been..... th—through....wo—rst." She choked out. Pink plumpy lips pouted in grief while she cried.

"It.... was..... not......my.... fault..." Skylar declared in a shaky voice. "It... w—was....... all their fault."

"A—ll of their fa—ult."

Skylar was woken up the next morning by a loud knock on the door.

With a low groan, she rolled over with the intent to reach for her glasses only to fall off the bed.

"Ouch...ouch..." Eyes glistened with unshed tears, she laid on her back, coughing softly as the pain that traveled pass her lower back and up her spine.

She stayed still until the pain disappeared, and only then did she open her eyes. Blinking doubtfully at the unfamiliar ceiling looming over her head.

It only took a few seconds for her to remember where she was and why. Head snapping towards the door at a knock.

"Miss are you okay?" She heard a soft female voice. "Are you in, miss?"

"Miss I am coming in." Before she could react, the door burst in and a pair of heels walked in.

From her position on the ground, Skylar slowly scanned the intruder. Down from the red bottoms to the blond low bob.

"Miss." The blond lady rushed up to her, helping her up to her foot. "Are you hurt anywhere? Should I call the amb..."

"I am fine. I am fine." Skylar forced a smile, putting some space between her and the other lady. "I just–– fell off the–– bed."

"Oh..." The blond lady took her words for it, then said. "Mr Grayson said he would like you to have breakfast with him."

"Brea––kfast...now." Skylar stammered. Taking in a calming breath before speaking again. "I....take a bath first."

"I will tell him just that." Despite Skylar's incoherent speech, the lady could still understand. Offering a broad smile before disappearing behind the door.

Skylar released a deal breath. Dropping on the bed.

Why can't she make a simple sentence without stuttering?

Feeling uncomfortable, she shifted a little, fishing out the unfriendely object that was poking on her butt.

"Thank goodness I didn't break you." She smiled a little. Switching the rectangular looking electronic device on.

Different text spammed her phone.

Someone must have posted her personal number online.

With the thousands of people that hated her, taking a guess will be useless.

'Tin.' She remembered the text from the night before. Wanting to call her best friend but she stopped midway.

Dumping the phone back on the bed. She decided to take a bath instead.

'what am I going to say?'

Sitting in a tub of bubbles, Skylar cautioned herself. "Go straight to the point Skylar. Straight to the point. We can do this. Show him no weakness."

Looking into the distance, she created a scene of Grayson and her dinning in an equisive dinning room in her head.

"When can I go home?" Skylar had a lazy look on her face as she stared at Grayson.

"Just wait for a bit more tim..."

"I want to go home." Skylar cut him shut with a snort.

"The problem isn't fully solved yet." Grayson explained.

"And till when do I have to wait?" Skylar popped a brow. Rendering him speechless.

"I know you are trying to help and all Mr Grayson, but you can't keep me locked up in here with the excuse of 'calming the media.' "Thank you for all you have done but I want to go home. now."

Grayson fascinated by Skylar's strong attitude didn't hesitate in nodding. "Okay."

And thus, Skylar won.

Slipping back to reality, Skylar nodded firmly. "Perfect."

She rushed her bath, while reciting her lines in her head.

Walking out with a newly found confidence only to realize that she had nothing to wear.

Her clothes from the night before, all dirty and sticky, pilled up in one corner of the room.

'okay. Now what do I wear.'

She was just starting to rack her brain on what to do when a knock sounded on the door.

Guessing it to be the blond lady she replied. Clunching the towel around her tightly. "Come in."

The door creaked open, and her guess walked in. "Mr Grayson said I should give you these."

Placing different size of boxes on the bed, she turned to Skylar. "Do you need any help dressing up?"

"No...." Skylar rushed out. "I mean......thank you...but, No." She rephrased.

"Okay." The blond lady nodded, then disappeared again.

She quickly slip into the light green, knee length dress. Putting on the matching green sandals.

While leaving the boxes of jewelries and accessories untouched.

She had not walked far when she found a well furnished parlour, taking the only available door, apart from the Exit which got her to get destination.

The dinning room.

Grayson was sitting on the head seat, fully immersed in his work laptop sipping black coffee.

'Breath Skylar. Breath. You can do this.' She timidly cheered in her gead

Skylar contemplated on greeting or not, then finally settled on the better.

"Good morning Mr Grayson." She slowly dragged her feet over, taking a seat, two chairs away from Grayson.

Not too far, neither too close.

"Good morning." Grayson looked up, his majestic gaze sweeping over the not too good looking Skylar. In turn, she focused her gaze on the sweet smelling food in front of her, but still had no appetite to eat.

Gathering all her confidence, she finally looked up. Saying in a small voice. "When can I go home?"

"That...." Grayson looked like he wanted to say something, but paused. Instead slidding his laptop over to Skylar, who with one look and had the urge to pass out.
