The anticipation made Jacota a little breathless. His heart smashed hard against his chest. It even rung in his ears. Hunter stood right next to him, sniffing the air. A thousand other wolve's scents lingered in the hot breeze despite it being almost eleven at night. His pack sat behind them in their wolf forms too, ready to protect their Alpha. The only absent member was Sam. He stood by the house with William. Hunter would have scolded Sam if he brought his mate to the front. William can fight and defend himself, but once knocked off his feet, it was a struggle to get back up.

The Gods sat next to Jacota, feeling just as nervous.

"I can hear them," Phoenix thought to the pack. "They're running fast." The thuds of hundreds of boots pounding the forest floor were no soothing sounds. Demons would soon collide with the wolves. Everyone knew they would be armed with all kinds of weapons.

"They are minutes away," Jacota thought and stood up. The wolves behind him stood up too, creating a tidal wave through the crowd, reaching the house where everyone else stood.

"I can't believe we let them talk us into staying at the back. We should be up there fighting alongside our family," Anthony said, chewing the inside of his lip and keeping his eyes on the dark forest. There were torches all around the field so wolves could see what they were doing. If the tear still swallowed the sky, the world would look utterly terrifying.

"It was Jay's orders." Scott found it hard to stand still too. "He's the God, we can't disobey him, even if we are family."

"He doesn't want you to get hurt," Flora sighed, standing next to her daughter. "That's what scares him the most." Flora and Margo hadn't yet spoken about Sam. They didn't have the time, and right now, Flora didn't have the patience. She was disappointed in her daughter for keeping something like that from her. She knew it would be for a good reason, mainly if it involved an Alpha's oath, but it didn't weaken the pain she felt every time she looked at the Beta wolf.

Hunter not only had a brother but a twin. Sam deserved more, a lot more.

"It will be a miracle if someone doesn't get injured." Scott's strong gaze found Panuleon and Corey standing on the edge of the field. They had tied their wrists together with a shoelace, too afraid to feel the stretch of their bond. Death felt better than reaching their five-metre mark.

Kaiden and Milokan stood on the opposite side, staring at the trees, not wanting to catch an anxious face of anyone who usually looked strong. Milokan wanted to believe that everyone was determined and confident. He knew that wasn't the case.

As the demon's neared, the ground felt like it started to shake. Jacota saw their shapes between the trees. "READY?" he yelled and every werewolf in the field heard his roar. The wolves found the eyes of their loved ones, or the eyes of those who came alone, sharing an invisible force that bound them together.

Sam's wolf was halfway through transitioning into an Alpha when Grace's wolf stepped into view and stopped on the edge of the field. She panted from running and the adrenaline in her bones.

Scott narrowed his eyes to see better, but Sam whimpered, digging his claws into the grass as the white travelled down his back, covering his black fur.

Grace changed into her human form when a shape landed next to her. His scent hit Hunter like a punch to the face. It was a mixture of rotting meat, filth, and sweat. The man had dark red eyes with a scar through his left one and a forced smile. He looked insane.

"I'm not biting into that," Hunter thought while a growl left his throat at the sight of Grace, remembering how Jacota was when they first met. She stripped his mate apart and left him so frail and vulnerable. It was time for revenge.

"Angels!" the man bellowed, flashing his unbrushed teeth at the many supernatural being in front of him. "I have waited for this day for thousands of years."

"That's Lucifer," Jacota thought as the Gods started to summon their powers. Demons poked out of the woods, looking terribly cheerful in the face of war.

Angelette moved to stand next to the God of lightning. Her face had formed into an expression of hatred. Each wrinkle trembled with anger. "You have waited to lose. Do you really think you stand a chance against werewolf Gods, angels, and a thousand-"

A big, powerful, and ear-pounding howl screeched from the house. Sam had changed into an Alpha and was forced to scream a Godly cry.

The demons shuffled further into the shadows. They heard the power within Sam's howl. It made every wolf's fur prickle down their backs, and they bowed.

Lucifer snarled at the demons cowardly behaviour. His cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "FOOLS!" He yelled. "TARGET THE ANGEL'S PRODIGIES!"

Vinny pulled Oliver close to him, whispering, "he knows we're a threat."

Lucifer then looked directly into Jacota's eyes. The God saw and felt no fear, no hesitation, only a deep need for death and destruction. Before the devil could shout anything else, he turned into a human and stood before his mother and the leader of hell.

"Did you turn her?" he asked with a voice so calm, hunter barely recognised it.

"Your mother?" Lucifer grinned. "Maybe."

"How long have you been manipulating her? For years? For thousands of years?"

"He didn't change me," Grace said, clearing her throat when her words sounded stuck in her windpipe. "He hasn't been in this world for long enough."

"Then who? Or how did you do it?"

Hunter thought that now was not the time for a conversation, but his mate wanted to move the blame from his mother. The fact that she'd arrange a war of demons to kill her entire family was barbarous, even for her.

Lucifer's red glare shifted to his left. His eyes followed a person who pushed through the crowd. He sneered and rubbed his hands together with delight.

"Only a werewolf can change a human." Grace stood up straight, taking a sharp breath of air. "Only a werewolf who is related to the human."

Jacota turned, knowing who he would see.

"Vic?" Nathan said out loud as he stood by the house. His son stopped by Lucifer and bowed with respect. "Victor?" Nathan tried to step down from the patio, but Anthony held him back.

"Don't. They'll kill you."

Hunter changed into his human form too, staring at the Alpha of his rival pack like Vic was a human-sized leech. "There's no way," he breathed.

"Really?" Grace asked, raising a brow. Jacota had to remove his gaze. She looked so much like William. "Is it really surprising to you that Victor is on our side? He arranged the entire war."

Nathan and Kayla looked horrified. "It can't be true!" Kayla cried with a tear dribbling down her cheek.

"No offence, but I always hated your son," Anthony grumbled, remembering all the times he was homophobic to Hunter and caused unnecessary tension between them.

Vic smirked, and Hunter wanted to punch it off his face. "How did you do it?" he growled. "How did you change Grace?"

"You make a little potion." Vic looked around, catching the patronising smiles from his pack members. "Reyana told me how to do it."

Cordelia, the God of water, shuffled on her feet. Her mate rested their heads together to keep her calm.

"How? And why?" Jacota demanded as the moon buried itself behind thick storm clouds. Lightning crackled above them.

"The wolf who's a relative of the human has to mix their blood, their fur, their tears, and the tip of a claw together. The claw should be shaved down, so it mixes well. When it's hot enough to scold the throat, the human drinks the potion. When the potion is in their bodies, the wolf scratches the human, and the transition begins." Vic's voice sounded as empty as his eyes. They were like deep pools of glass. Sharp but seethrough.

Jacota could barely process the information. He was aware that the demon's edged closer. "Why?" he spoke to his mother. "You abandoned this family because you hated werewolves. I don't understand why you'd change, or why you'd let Vic arrange all of this."

"Because I wanted to be a part of the war. I couldn't fight as strong if I were only human. I wanted revenge on Scott for keeping secrets-"

"Your own brother is a werewolf. You were both keeping secrets from each other." Jacota was fed up. The longer he talked, the rowdier the wolves got behind him. He stepped closer, trying to captivate his mother with a longing stare. "Do you really want to do this? You'll be responsible for deaths and injuries. Do you really mean it when you say you want your own family dead?"

Grace stared back, seeing her twenty-three-year-old son as the seventeen-year-old boy she left behind all those years ago.

She took too long to answer because Lucifer shover her aside feeling bored with all the talking. "Demons," he said in an average voice, and his hell-hounds froze to listen. "Bring Meloras and Kaiden to me. Kill the rest."

Without a second longer, the demon's kicked into action and lunged forwards. They collided with the werewolves and the angels as Hunter and Jacota changed back into their wolf forms. Blood was spilt immediately. The animals ripped skin with their teeth, gouged out eyes with their claws. Demon's stabbed, punched, and crushed wolves with their weapons.

The war started a thousand years early, a war caused by Vic, Grace, and the leader of hell.

Hunter's eyes stayed on Vic who started running back to his pack. Demons lunged for Hunter, but he was an excellent fighter and dodged every blow with a knife and every bullet with a gun while managing to injure demons around him.

Jacota's electricity sparked up the front of his legs and the hell-hounds avoided him, throwing their eyes around the crowd, frantically searching for Meloras.

"He's mine!" Hunter growled and ran after Vic who was trying to pull off his jacket.

"No! Hunter No!" Nathan yelled and yanked himself free from Anthony. He sprinted through the crowd as Hunter dived on his son and sank his teeth into his leg. "Don't kill him!" Nathan cried, not watching where he was going.

"Nathan!" Kayla yelled, not able to break free from Scott's hands which were locked firmly around her arms.

"Don't kill my son!" Nathan screamed and kicked a demon in the stomach on his way towards the front of the fight.

Vic had changed into a wolf and was fighting back. Demons jumped on Hunter but were thrown back by Jacota and his powers.

"Just capture him! Please-" Nathan stopped dead in his tracks when a burning pain ruptured through his chest. He looked down to see a sword the length of his arm dug deep into the left side of him. A demon held the handle and pushed the sword in deeper.

Kayla screamed, and Vic froze, looking up in time to see the blood spewing from his father's lips. The demon who stabbed him twisted the sword and ripped it from his chest. Nathan fell to his knees, having seconds to send a mind-link to Kayla, telling her how much he loved her.

Kayla screamed again and elbowed Scott in the shoulder. He let her go, and she ran as fast as her legs would carry her. Panuleon and Corey were running through the crowd to get to him, as were Kaiden and Milokan.

Nathan fell backwards, no longer feeling the beat of his heart. The world around him silenced, and everything felt surprisingly peaceful.

Seconds later, Kayla reached him, but the light had already gone from his eyes. He was dead, and she would die soon from a broken heart.

Jacota felt sick to his stomach. Grace had paled so much, he thought she would faint.

Vic then gave up as Hunter mauled his throat. He lay still, watching his mother cry over his dead father, covering him in her tears, resting her head against his chest, searching for the warmth that she'd never feel again.

When the world fell peaceful to him, he sent one wish to the Gods that his parent's souls went to heaven. Then Hunter killed him, tearing Vic apart like he had wished to do ever since he hurt Jacota when they were both still in college.

"Revenge," Hunter thought to his pack who had watched their Alpha. He turned with blood dripping from his sharp teeth, soaking his white fur, "is sometimes a wonderful thing in the eyes of the victim."
