"Would you like some tea dear?" Flora offered. She thought Veronica looked a little overwhelmed.
"No. I'm more of a coffee person," Veronica muttered. Her belly twisted into knots at the thought of the little coffee shop she left behind in the other world. It had been her home for so many years; she never thought she'd have the heart to abandon it and all the demons in it.
"Well, I'm sure it's not a problem if you help yourself," Flora said.
"I'll make you some." Scott climbed to his feet and wandered through the kitchen. He had learnt not to question his sanity after knowing about werewolves for so long. One day, he knew he would meet other supernatural beings. Scott didn't think the day would come so soon.
"It has been three hours, where is Panuleon?" Hunter sighed, leaning against the worktop next to his mate.
"He was in a lot of pain, just be patient," Jacota said quietly, watching Jeronah and Meloras.
"I need an explanation. How do three people magically appear from another world?"
"Stranger things have happened," Jacota whispered under his breath, but Hunter heard.
"Yeah," the werewolf grinned and pulled him close, "like you getting the body of a God in less than a minute." His eyes looked him up and down, his pupils growing with passion.
Jacota's cheeks warmed to a deep shade of red.
"That was pretty strange," he whispered when Hunter leaned in for a kiss, but Jacota moved his head when he saw Panuleon land with Corey. Hunter's lips skimmed his cheek before pulling away, pouting.
"Why did-" Hunter sighed in relief when he saw the angel smiling in their direction. "Finally. I have so many questions."
Everyone walked over, willing to listen to what the angel had to say.
"I apologise for leaving like I did. I brought Kaiden and Milokan with me so Kaiden could say goodbye to his parents." Panuleon glanced at Meloras and Jeronah. "But it was too painful to stay for long. Now, I have recovered, and I am here to explain. Recently in our world, which is the vampire and human world, Milokan and Kaiden came to us through a tear in the fabric of the universe. This tear, I assume was made by an instrument that the demon's created in the last two wars. The tear was closed-"
"By me," Veronica interrupted. "It was too small for anyone to pass through it, but Kaiden and Milokan managed it to escape Lucifer. We know that they are the angel and demon couple who are required for war. Your world needs them for a reason."
"Jacota," Hunter said, still finding it strange to say his true name, "described the tear as like a black hole. Is that what it is?"
Everyone turned to the God with frowns.
"We see it as a wave of warm air. It's invisible to the human eye and almost impossible to see with ours. Explain exactly how you saw it Jacota," Panuleon smiled with encouragement.
"Um, it was black and flickering like it was going to explode. I knew it had to be dangerous. What would have happened if I didn't close it?" Jacota's voice sounded small.
"Heaven would fall," Jeronah said and stepped closer out of curiosity. "How did you manage to close it? And why do you see it differently?"
Panuleon rested a hand on the teen's shoulder, knowing he would say it with more pride, and the guests needed to know just how influential he was.
"Jacota is the keeper of lightning and the God of wolves."
Jacota's entire body pounded with embarrassment. He hated nothing more than being the centre of attention. Veronica's laugh impaled his confidence even more.
"Seriously? The werewolves have their own God? And it's him?" she snorted, and Jacota looked down to his feet.
"You want to win this war, don't you?" Scott said calmly.
"yeah, but-"
"Then I suggest you be quiet. My son is never to be laughed at, do you understand?" Scott was fed up with people talking about his son like they couldn't hurt his feelings.
Veronica turned serious in an instant and said, "that was mean of me, I'm sorry. It's just, you know- demon traits." She swallowed her pride, knowing when she was in the wrong. She turned to Jacota who quickly looked away. "The strange electricity around your hands, is that what you used to close the tear? You must be very powerful if that's the case."
"I don't know how I did it," Jacota mumbled.
"Well, thank you. We were careless and risked a lot to get here. If it wasn't for you, heaven might be pretty angry with us right now." Veronica relaxed when she saw a hint of a smile. It was not wise for her to be on a God's side of disapproval.
"Unfortunately, you are in another world," Panuleon said sadly. "I know you aimed to enter the vampire world to see Kaiden, but at least you are safe now, and he knows that which has rested his mind."
Meloras and Jeronah nodded in disappointment and Margo's heart reached out to them. She couldn't imagine losing Hunter in another world. The worry would be unbearable.
"Is he happy there?" Meloras asked.
"Yes, he and Milokan are settling in just fine. We will look out for them."
"Thank you," Jeronah beamed and squeezed his soulmates shoulder.
"Does anyone have any more questions before we go?" Corey asked when he noticed his soulmate's grip was getting harder against his hand. Panuleon was still recovering from earlier.
"Yeah, do we have to stay here for thousands of years now?" Veronica questioned.
"Yes, unless you build another instrument that will open a tear between the worlds." Panuleon's eyes turned dark. "If you give these wolves any reason not to trust you, they will kill you. I know you know how to make one Veronica. I hope when the time comes to choose sides, you chose the right one."
"The right one being the good one?" Veronica said, rolling her eyes but not arguing. They had every right not to trust her. "I don't even want to be involved in this war, but whatever."
Panuleon then picked Corey up with a warm smile directing to the God. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to get in touch." He then flashed his wings and was gone in an instant.
"I thought you wanted to ask questions?" Jacota murmured.
"I forgot them." Hunter sighed and rubbed his eyes. "This day is going to be a long one."
"Wanna go for a run?" Sam asked.
"Get out of my head," Hunter grumbled.
"I do," Jacota added but spun on his heels when he sensed something. He glanced out of the window, searching the trees in the distance.
"What's wrong?" Hunter asked.
"I don't know." Jacota gripped his fingers; they felt tingly like there was something wrong. He moved towards the back door, not blinking and studying the woods until he spotted it and his jaw hung open. It was there one second and gone the next.
"What did you see?" Hunter asked, peering out of the window too.
"Another God."
"Really?" Flora asked and was helped to her feet by her husband. "Go after them! If you're seeing them, it's for a reason."
Jacota rested a hand on the glass and whispered, "something isn't right."
"Why do you look worried?" Hunter asked.
"I shouldn't have seen them."
"What did you see?" Flora asked gently.
"A wolf as big as what mine can get. It had grey markings on its fur but disappeared as soon as I saw it."
Hunter then collapsed against the glass, pressing his palms to his temples and crying in pain. He curled up into a ball, feeling like a drill was cutting open his skull.
Jacota crouched, held him, and told nobody to come near. As the guardian of a God, Hunter was getting a message.
"Betrayal!" A voice whispered loud in Hunter's head. "Don't trust her. Royalty is unfaithful; jealousy is ugly. Jacota is not safe. The God wants him dead!" Hunter sucked in the air and shook with pain. He buried his face into his mate's chest, breathing in his scent to calm him.
"What the hell was that?" Anthony questioned and turned to Veronica. "No offence."
"It's okay, you'll be okay," Jacota soothed with frightened eyes. He looked up, feeling sick to his stomach. "I'm not safe."
"What do you mean? Did Hunter get another message?" Anthony asked and crouched by his son.
"The God who Jay just saw, I think she wants to kill him," Hunter whispered.
"She?" Flora asked. "Why on earth would a God kill another God?"
"Betrayal," Hunter breathed. "It said that Jealousy is ugly."
Jacota helped his mate to his feet, feeling somewhat shaky himself. His heart was pounding hard. If a God was going to turn against him, how could he protect himself? Also, how would another God find him? Maybe they shouldn't have been so public with announcing who he is to the whole of Britain.
"I feared this would happen," Flora said. "The Enchiridion is repeating itself."
"What?" Hunter frowned. "That book written by the Gods?"
"Yes. It spoke of jealousy among the Gods. We don't know what ended them last time, but it's not far-fetched to think that Jealousy had something to do with it. Jacota is the ruler of all Gods, as well as the wolves. It is no surprise to me that the others want that power."
"But I haven't done anything wrong," Jacota said and started to fidget, stopping himself from panicking. "I didn't want this power."
"Which is why you've got it. You have a good heart Jacota; they will see that soon enough."
