Chapter 14
Nathan left shortly after his son, wanting to track him down and talk about what happened in the sports hall. He didn't know why Vic held so much anger and felt like it was okay to belittle everyone around him, especially Hunter. Jealousy is a dangerous thing, more so if Vic can give abuse, but can't take it.
When Nathan reached home, he could hear his wife yelling from inside his car. Quickly, he ran into the house and was hit with a shirt and a pair of trousers that his wife flung out of a suitcase.
"You're not leaving! Don't be so stupid!" Kayla yelled at her son. Vic yanked the suitcase from her grip and hurried to zip it up.
"I am, and you can't stop me. I'm sick of being hated in this town!"
"Victor!" Nathan yelled. Kayla and his son spun on their heels. "Stop this nonsense. What has gotten into you? You're cruel to everyone and expect kindness in return. We didn't raise you this way!"
"Cruel to everyone?" Vic scoffed and shoved his arms into backpack straps.
"Did something happen?" Kayla asked her mate.
"Yes. Vic tried to tell Jacota everything he doesn't like about Hunter. As you can imagine, that didn't go well. Jacota's brother blew up in his face."
Kayla crossed her arms.
"Vic, why? You know wolves are protective of those who they respect. Hunter is respected by many because he's a good Kid. What is your problem with him?"
"William is a human," Vic said, angry that his dad allowed a human to speak to him in such a way. "And I'm sick of feeling humiliated. I want my pack back."
"Your pack caused mischief; you were split up by Anthony because you terrorised his son for accidentally stepping onto our territory. I talked to Hunter, and he apologised for it. There was no reason for you to go after his pack like you did," Kayla said, crossing her arms.
"Why are you doing this to him? Is it because he's gay?" Nathan questioned with a deep frown.
"No." Vic's heart was beating hard with anger. He hated arguing with his parents. "Why are you never on my side? Nobody will want to be in my pack after today. You just ruined my life, and you don't even care."
"Do you think anyone would want to stay in your pack with an Alpha who hates one of the most respected families in Britain?" Nathan said calmly. "I don't understand where all this hate is coming from and we are not on your side because you are on the wrong one. We are friends with the Raysons."
Truthfully, Vic knew why he hated Hunter Rayson. He felt Jealous of someone so perfect. Hunter had the looks, the family, the mate, and a loyal Beta. Vic hasn't seen any of his pack members since Alisha died. As soon as the pack split, they found new packs immediately, and he was then left with nobody. Even his parents talk about Hunter more than him.
Nathan and Kayla listened to his thoughts with pity on their faces. Nathan stepped in front of his son, resting warm hands on his shoulders.
"Is that why you're so desperate to convince everyone that Hunter is a bad guy? You're jealous?"
"Of course I'm jealous! Nobody even looks twice at me, and I'm a Gods cousin! We are related to a God, and it's still all about Hunter. I can't do anything right in your eyes."
"You feel neglected, is that what this is?" Kayla questioned, and her son nodded. "But you were awful to Hunter before he even connected a bond with Jacota."
Vic scratched the back of his head, feeling like the truth had to be said.
"Alisha found out that Hunter's mate was another man, so we hated him for it."
Nathan shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"So you are homophobic."
"I just, I don't agree with it," Vic said in a small voice.
"And because you don't agree with it you think it's acceptable to stir chaos and make rumours about Hunter that are simply not true? You might feel neglected by us, but that is no way to get our attention. We do not hate on those who are different, that's not who we are."
"I don't belong here." Vic picked up his suitcase. "I'm going to live with Aunt Mary. I've already bought plane tickets."
"Aunt Mary?" Nathan looked puzzled, but Kayla squeezed his arm.
"Fine, do what you want. You're eighteen now and able to make your own choices. Hopefully, you'll find a mate when you're there, and I will pray to the Gods that it's another man so you can taste your own medicine."
Vic pushed past them in disgust.
"Whatever. At least Aunt Mary doesn't know Hunter and might pay me attention once in a while."
His parents said nothing more as he left the house and slammed the door behind him.
"Aunt Mary," Nathan sighed, glancing at his wife. "Isn't she a lesbian?"
"She sure is." Kayla watched him in return before they burst into laughter, knowing their son will get a firm telling off from his Aunt once she learns about his views. "He'll come back a changed man, I'm sure of it."

"Give me two more," Hunter said, watching a redhead teen battle through an impressive amount of push-ups before collapsing onto the floor. "Impressive." He helped the guy up and gave him a strong pat on his sweat covered back. "You've beaten every other wolf in here with every activity. Why are you not in a pack already? Other's would leap at such a strong Omega."
"I'm actually looking for the role of a Gamma," the man said respectfully, stretching his arms.
"A Gamma? They are rare to find in England. Can I see your wolf?" Hunter motioned for his parents to come over as the teen crouched and changed into a beautiful werewolf, the same burnt orange colour as his human hair.
"A Gamma," Anthony said with raised brows as the teen turned back and stood up. "Are your parents here?"
"No. I uh, I came alone."
"What's your name?" Margo asked, pulling out a little notepad that already had the name Piper Brady and her parents written down.
"Pheonix Flame. I'm from Scotland."
Margo wrote his name down with a smile. She will do a background check on him tonight.
"Did you travel from Scotland this morning?" Anthony asked.
"No sir, I travelled yesterday. I have distant family in this city, and they were kind enough to let me stay."
"Have you been in a pack before?" Hunter asked, and Pheonix nodded.
"It's hard to find a pack in Scotland. They view Gammas as bad omens, and they all thought I would bring bad luck to their packs."
Hunter glanced at Jacota who nodded with approval.
"Well, the God of electricity doesn't think you bring bad luck. Can you go and find a girl called Piper Brady please and partner up for the sit-up test?" Hunter asked.
"Of course! Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be here today," Pheonix smiled and wandered off, asking females if their name was Piper.
"A bad omen," Anthony scoffed and rubbed his hands together. "Two down, three to go."
"Wait, they have to get through the Jacota test yet, and they have to go through an agonisingly boring day with me to see if the pack I choose will work well together. If not, then we'll be back here searching for more." Hunter looked around at the people working hard to catch his attention.
"Don't worry; I'm keeping track of everyone's scores. You want the fittest, but the best up here too." Anthony tapped his head. "If you change your mind, I'll easily find the fittest, and your mother will easily find the mentally stable. It'll be fine," he grinned and continued to walk around the hall.
Hunter made his way back to his mate when his scent was too irresistible.
"Pheonix Flame is a pretty cool name," Jacota smiled, taking his hand and watching Hunter intertwine their fingers.
"Yeah," Hunter laughed, "And he is a Gamma wolf."
"What's a Gamma wolf?"
"A pack protector. I think I could definitely use one of those, but I don't know if I'm capable of trusting a wolf enough."
"You will," Jacota smiled. "They will prove themselves."
"Feeling full of wisdom are we?"
Jacota nodded with rosy cheeks.
"How many more wolves do you have to find now?"
"Three at the most. The werewolves have to be omegas." Hunter rested his head against Jacota's shoulder. "That's if I consider giving Piper the role of my Delta wolf."
"What do you like about Piper. She's not the fittest wolf here," Jacota asked, feeling Hunter's arm coil around his waist.
"I liked Piper's determination. She found the run so hard I thought she was gonna be sick, but she recovered quickly and congratulated others who looked at her like she was nothing."
"There's your answer," Jacota said. "She's kind."
The boys turned to watch Pheonix holding Piper's feet as she tried to do as many sit-ups as she could in two minutes. Pheonix encouraged her, and Piper listened, pushing harder to get the best results.
"They're perfect for my pack, aren't they?" Hunter sighed, not ready to commit.
"Maybe spend a few weeks getting to know them, then decide," William added with a mouth full of chocolate. He didn't have any change for the vending machine, so Sam kicked it hard enough to smash the glass by accident. They grabbed the chocolate and ran straight into Scott who demanded two chocolate bars to pay for his silence.
"Yeah, I suppose." Hunter checked his watch and left his mate with William, knowing he didn't have long to choose his Omega wolves.
If he panicked and couldn't devote his trust, he depended on his parent's judgement, and they would offer the best wolves. Also, the wolves had to get through the Jacota test. His mate is the most socially awkward person Hunter has ever met. Jacota talked to nobody today and pretended that he needed the toilet every time a participant or a participant's parent walked close.
Jacota's decision is just as important as Hunter's. If the God can't be comfortable around his pack, then Hunter will turn his back on them without a second thought.
