Prologue

The wars started over a decade ago.

The true origin is undecided. Was it the revolt on Mount Imara? The battle of Kahn Keriin? Or was it just the sudden uprising in magic slaves across the world? No one knew. No one cared. But everyone knew the story. It was common knowledge.

In the ancient times, magic wasn't seen as a threat. Warlocks, witches, wizards, druids, whatever they preferred to be called, lived in peace with those that couldn't use magic. Things were fine.

About two hundred years after the Golden Ages of Arthur, as they are so often referred to, in 602 a man named T'sak Keriin took over the most powerful kingdom in the land, a large empire known as Cree'Mya. The death of his wife, having been killed by an evil user of magic named Kahnekk, caused him to simmer in bitterness for years before finally casting a ban on magic everywhere. The magic users revolted in 623, but, at the time, their magic was made for peace, not war. Soon, virtually the entire mage community had been taken hostage. Keriin's men had been working hard and eventually found a way to enslave the mages using magic-preventative braces around their wrists and ankles. Without their magic, their meager attempts at a revolution failed.

Eventually, magic faded from the world. T'sak Keriin's bitterness drove him to insanity. He wanted magic gone. For good. He didn't want it in the history books or anywhere other than legends. Using torture devices no longer known to the world, he harnessed the magic of the most powerful warlocks in his collection and cast a spell over the land in the year of 633. Slowly, everyone forgot. There was no longer such thing as magic. It was no longer part of the history books; these slaves never again knew of the power thrumming beneath their fingers. Though the spell made them forget, it could never truly take their powers away.

The years progressed. Civilizations were built, all use of magic taken out of the history books. The Ancient Egyptians built the tower with sheer will and brain power, not the magic of their pharaoh. Merlin wasn't truly the greatest magician to ever live, just a legend. The world grew into a realm of politics, science, and mundane issues. Countries were made, presidents were elected, and people, you most likely one of them, lived thinking that magic was just a thing of legend. It stayed that way for almost two thousand years before the spell broke.

Keriin's spell hadn't been eternal, few spells are. Almost two thousand years had passed since that spell — two thousand since the developments of science and developed society, and suddenly everyone was remembering. Around the world, people were suddenly realizing that they had magic powers their friends didn't; some could now fly to work, others could change the colors of any material in the world with the blink of an eye. Then again, some were more powerful. Some could flip over cars with the simple flip of the hand, causing it to explode, even though they were unconscious after such a display of power.

The non-mages of the world grew scared. With the new-found memory of the slaves and the technology used to keep them that way, many were protesting to the government, demanding that these magicians, these heathens were put back in their place. The government, being three-quarters non-magic, agreed that something must be done. Wizards, though not thrown into complete slavery as they had been before, lost most of their rights as citizens of the world in 2634. They were refused any rights at all if they took off their braces. The mages weren't happy, but many of them agreed just to prevent war. Life continued.

Over a span of about fifty years, segregated communities were built up all over the world. If people were known to practice magic, they were forced into "magic" schools, "magic" restaurants, and "magic" facilities. People weren't happy about it, but the mages lived with it, knowing that any type of revolution would lead to a war that none of them were prepared for.

Eventually, mixed schools were erected after the Halloway verses Banks — the biggest political case arguing for the magic community since the people were segregated. The first unsegregated school, Aequalis Institute, was built and established in 2693 in the heart of London. It hushed the magical community for a while, but conflicts were frequent. It wasn't uncommon for a political fight to be front and center on the news or for a riot to break out in the streets between sorcerers and mortals. The president of the United Mages and Mortals, Joseph Glenn, though not a warlock, tried his best to keep peace between the two people groups, but it was like a ticking time bomb. Unhappiness flourished throughout the countries and it wouldn't be long before the rebellion would start. Despite this, Joseph Glenn was the man for the job. He was perhaps the only reason the war didn't start before it did.

In 2703, the magical community declared war by capturing and killing Joseph Glenn on the night of January 31.

The people went into an uproar. With no one to calm the spark, it shot into a flame of hatred and cruelty. The FAE, once a group sworn to try to keep the peace with their magical brothers, gathered magical forces and grew their army. It was they who killed Joseph Glenn. Most mages flocked to America where the FAE's main headquarters were located. Most people without magic or neutral wizards were taken to other European countries for safety. America was turned into an international battle ground in the blink of an eye. In 2704, the Equilibrium, the group devoted to fighting the FAE, offered up a peace treaty, but the FAE refused it. They were deviating from their path of warlock equality and dipping dangerously close to the idea of world domination. They had to be stopped.

The war has been devastating the world for an entire decade now. Homes have been destroyed, lives torn apart, and the world was losing hope. There was no distinct winner, even after all that time. The FAE continued to fight to not only to gain equality but to gain control over Europe and the North Americas; from there, they were more than likely going to head for Asia, then South America, then Australia, and eventually would take control of the entire system humans had taken so long to build. They had to be stopped.

This is the story of how the Great War was won. This is the story of the beginning of the end.
