“Krishna! Krishna!”

I was searching for him throughout the house. {Where is he when he is needed the most?}

Finally; I spotted him sitting peacefully in the garden, playing with the birds and tiny creatures. {Seriously! This person needs to be taught that there are few matters which need seriousness. He thinks life is a game!}

I rushed towards him scaring away the tiny creatures. He looked at me.

He: Why did you scare them? I was having fun.

Me: Now!?

He: When else?

Me: Do you know what day it is?

He: Is it our marriage anniversary?

Me: No!

He: Your birthday?

Me: No!

He: Then what special day is it?

Me: The day the probe is scheduled to collide with the asteroid.

He: Oh! Yes! So?

Me: So?

He: Hmm.

Me: Are you not tensed?

He: Why should I be? I did my job in the best way I could. But I cannot decide the result. So why should I waste my precious energy in expecting the results and getting tensed?

Me: But what if it fails?

He: It will be the last week for us on the earth!

Me: How can you say it so casually?

He made a serious face.

He: Then It will be the last week for us on the earth! Serious enough?

Me: Don’t joke.

He: I did not! I kept a serious face right?

Me: But you are not serious.

He: How is it going to matter? I still cannot change the answer. What is the use of worrying unnecessarily?

Me: You are careless.

He: If I would have been careless, I would never have taken up this project.

{True! Stupid me!}

Me: But …

He: See! Our concern is only to perform our duty with utmost devotion; not to worry about the result. Because we can never control it. It is the will of god which decides the results. So Chill. We have sown the seeds and provided the water and nutrients. Now we only need to wait for the tree to grow.

His phone started ringing and he picked it up. He immediately got up and ran into our room while speaking on the phone. He opened his laptop and logged into his account. I followed him. On the screen I saw a huge red dot and a small green dot approaching each other. They were getting closer to each other and my heart was pounding against my chest. My breath rate increased and I started sweating. My legs felt wobbly and I sat on the bed. He brought the laptop with him and sat beside me on the bed. I slipped my sweating palm into his warm palm. He interlinked his fingers with mine, without moving his eyes away from the screen. But the smile on his face never faded. I felt him squeezing my palm and looked at the screen. The two dots might collide any moment now. I started praying in my heart. 3…2…1!

{BOOM!} (Okay! That was my imagination. There was no noise as such. I was exaggerating.)

“Yay!”

I jumped up as I saw the small green dot hit the big red dot at an angle, creating a small deviation in the direction it was moving, or the path it took. The green dot was no more to be seen. Only the red dot was visible, which too was out of the sight in a few minutes.

Me: You saved the world!

I hugged him tight.

He: Not me, we!

Me: You saved our lives!

He: But it would sound silly if people came to know that I died of suffocation, in my wife’s arms!

I left him immediately. Looking embarrassed. He laughed and pulled me into a brief hug.

He: I love you!

I blushed.

The rest of the day was busy, with him answering nearly a hundred calls, thanking everyone and congratulating his team members for their great efforts. Then he had to address the press. I watched him once again on the television.

He: That is the reason why we tried to maintain the confidentiality. It was an experiment, a trial, to test the new equipment. The results of which, we were not sure … so we hesitated to inform the public … but the information got leaked. It is unfortunate that it turned out to be a failure. We are trying to find out the reason for the failure. We will be more careful next time …

I smirked and left to our room, locking the door behind me. {He is a very good actor. Maybe that is why they chose him to break the news to public. He could convince anyone. The whole world thinks this is just a failed attempt to launch a space probe into it's orbit. But only few knew what a grave disaster was prevented.} I was proud of my husband. He was a hero!

A knock on the door pulled me out of the thoughts regarding my husband. I opened the door to find the whole family {Which includes his parents, his brother, my parents and my sister.} Everyone was staring at me.

Ma: What are you hiding from us?

Me: Nothing …

Ma: Then why are you smirking when my son is struggling?

Me: Umm … I think he can explain better.

I pointed towards him, who just arrived.

Finally, we let our families know about the Asteroid threat. They were shocked at first. Then they were impressed. Later they were thankful. In one day, we could see a whole variety of emotions.

The long memorable day ended with me sleeping peacefully in his arms. My life could never get any better.
