Chapter 25: The Vows

Once again I know it's been awhile since I last updated. I would like to thank @bubble_gumxo for making this amazing cover for me! Enjoy the chapter and don't forget to vote, comment & follow!

Alexander's P.O.V

"Damn it," I cursed slamming my hand down on the cold granite countertop. I had just finished a call from the private investigator I hired to find out any information about Ryder. The private investigator informed me that even after two weeks of digging, he still couldn't find anything. Ryder was clean as a whistle, there was nothing that indicated that he was even involved in anything illegal. My private investigator couldn't even so much as find a fine for a parking ticket. After Alessandra told me about Ryder, I immediately felt like he needed to be taken care of.

I don't know why I felt like I could trust her after all she was a gold digger, lying was her business. But I still believed her and something inside of me made me want to protect her.

"Why did you slam the counter?" Alessandra asked appearing out of nowhere.

"That doesn't concern you," I said shooting a glare in her direction.

"Well that's a change," she said with a smirk in my direction. She took out a cup and poured some coffee from the pot that I had just made.

"That's mine, keep your hands off," I said reaching around her to grab the coffee pot from her.

"What's yours is mine," Alessandra informed me with a self satisfied smile.

"Not yet," I said lightly slapping her hand that still held the pot of coffee.

"Soon enough, speaking of has your mother called about wedding arrangements? She told me last week that she would call," Alessa took a sip of her coffee, she grimaced before dumping the coffee into the sink.

"She did, we are going to be very busy today,"

"With what?" Alessa asked adjusting the coffee machine.

"Vows," I informed her.

"Vows?" Alessa asked coming up next to me holding her fresh cup of coffee.

"As in wedding vows,"

"What about them?"

"She thinks it would be nice if we wrote them and personalized them,"

"Tell her no," Alessa insisted.

"Don't you think I tried,"

"Try harder," Alessa said glaring at me. I had seen this look enough times that it had no effect on me.

"We are writing them," I stated.

"How the hell are we supposed to come up with sweet and loving things to say about each other? Tell her no," Alessa insisted once again.

"She's already a little suspicious about this engagement," I remarked.

"What? Why? Why didn't you tell me?"

"She was just concerned that we didn't know each other well enough. She feels like she hasn't even seen us together as a couple,"

"Well dumbass we have to fix it," Alessandra said hitting my shoulder.

"I do not appreciate being called dumbass. I told you the way to fix it is writing our vows. You're gold digger for god sakes, you should know how to fake love,"

"Do you really have to bring up gold digging in every conversation we have?"

"Yes because it is relevant,"

"No it isn't! What I did has nothing to do with this. Don't you think I did it for a reason? You really think I'm that shallow? Well I'm not and I sure as hell didn't want to be a gold digger but I had to. All you care is that I was a gold digger, you don't even bother to ask why. I'm so sick and tired of you judging me all the time. I'm sure you are not as perfect as you seem to be," Alessandra burst out. She slammed her coffee cup with alarming force onto the counter. A loud band echoed through the kitchen. Theatrically,  a single tear slid down her cheek and that's when I realized she was faking it all.

I took a step closer to her, we were inches apart.

I narrowed my eyes and stared into her watery turquoise eyes, "I see right through you,"

Alessandra's P.O.V

I took a wobbly step back and looked down at my feet, breaking eye contact with Alexander. I really thought I had fooled him. This was not good, he could tell when I was lying, "Damn it, I really thought I fooled you," I said with a fake light laugh.

"You can't fool me, I know you well enough. Stop wasting time and let's start our vows," Alexander said walking out of the kitchen and gesturing me to follow him.

I followed him to his wing of the mansion. This was the first time I had ever even come on this side, I usually stayed on my side. I also knew Alexander would have a fit if I even walked over to his side which is why I contemplated going over there but at the end I always decided not to.

Alexander swung open the double doors of his office. The room was a dark oak, shelves lined the walls. The shelves were perfectly organized with books. In the center of the room, an enormous desk sat. Just like the rest of the room, Alexander's desk was perfectly organized. There wasn't even a single loose sheet of paper. All the paper were in neat little piles.

"Stop gawking and have a seat," Alexander said taking a seat behind the huge desk. I sank into the plush chair in front of the desk.

"What's the plan?" I asked him.

"What do you mean plan?"

"You always have a plan," I was shocked, Alexander didn't have a plan? He had a plan for literally everything.

"We can wing it," he said looking right into my eyes.

I was beyond shocked, the Alexander Markos wanted to wing it? "You want to wing it?" I asked incredulously.

"No of course not stupid. Do you think I'm willing to mess up my genius plan with winging?"

This was bad, I couldn't tell when he was lying but he could tell when I was lying. I was at a disadvantage, I had to find Alexander's tell. I was still shocked, I did not know that Alexander was aware of sarcasm, he usually took everything so literally.

"Glad to see you have a sense of humor," I said sarcastically.

"Onto business. There are plenty of resources to find vows and I'm warning you do not make them too sappy and sweet,"

"What, no may my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home,"

"Oh hell no. I am a well respected and feared business man. Everyone knows that I am ruthless. All my rivals will be attending this wedding, I cannot look like I have gone soft. I cannot have my image as a ruthless and cold man be ruined, I worked too hard,"

"Then what am I supposed to say?" I asked getting irritated. Alexander should've just wrote vows for me and given them for me to memorize and really sell.

"I have a sample prepared for you if what you could say. I knew you would come up with something awful. You can say, Alexander Markos, you are the light of my life, my life had no meaning before I met you. With each day that passes, I realize how empty my life used to be. You can just add onto this but it's a good start," Alexander said with a self satisfied smirk.

"First my life was not empty without you and second I will not be adding onto that, I sound like a desperate whore," I snapped.

"Then come up with your own vows,"

"Fine," I burst out. I stood up from the chair and stormed out of the office leaving Alexander alone behind the enormous desk.

I didn't include the vows in this chapter because I'm going to include them in the wedding chapter. Don't forget to vote, comment & follow!
