Chapter 17: The Pre-Planning
Over the past week, I had tried my hardest to avoid Alexander. Even though we agreed to pretend that the kiss never happened, for some reason I couldn't let it go. My face burned in embarrassment just thinking about it and I literally had no shame, I conned people for a living.
Alexander had left me so many text messages and voicemails that I actually had to turn my phone off. After a while I didn't even bother to read the messages. I assumed by now he would understand that I was ignoring him but he just did not get the message.
According to our carefully crafted plan that our engagement party was supposed to be this weekend. I knew if I kept avoiding him forever that the party wouldn't take place. If the party didn't take place I would be a few million poorer than before. I didn't know how we were going to pull it off, the party was in five days and we hadn't planned anything. I just couldn't face Alexander so soon. Now every time I thought of Alexander, all I could think of was the way his lips felt on mine. The way his arm wrapped around my waist pulling me on to him. His strong and lean body pressed up against mine. The harder I tried to ignore the kiss, the more I remembered. I just couldn't forget that stupid lapse in judgment.
I left my phone on the kitchen counter and tried to expel any lingering thoughts of Alexander. I gently grabbed my bowl of hot soup and made my way back to my couch. I pulled the blanket over my sweatpants clad legs and changed the channel to E!. My guilty pleasure, Keeping up with the Kardashians was playing reruns. Sipping my soup, I enjoyed Kim and Khloé fighting.
I was on my third consecutive episode of KUWTK, when I heard the ring of the doorbell. The incessant ringing yanked me out of my reverie. Groaning I threw the blanket off myself and shuffled to the door, prepared to snap at whoever was behind. With a loud sigh I slowly drew open the door.
There stood Alexander, who I tried so hard to avoid, wearing his navy blue Armani suit. His dark chocolate colored hair combed back creating a sleek look that blended well with his suit. He looked exactly like the ruthless business man that everyone said he was. He looked even more irresistible, the strong desire to kiss him surged through me. I tried to ignore it and fixed my eyes on the ground.
His eyes narrowed as he stared right at me. His gray eyes burned meeting my turquoise ones. I felt like he could see through all my defenses,"I see you are not dead," he said his voice so cold it could freeze the Antarctic.
"Why would I be dead?"
"You made no effort to contact me whatsoever this entire week," he stated. His voice cold and flat. He clearly was extremely angry at me.
"Maybe because I was busy," I said with a sweet smile, trying to lighten the mood.
"Busy?" He said in a tone that clearly implied that he knew everything that was coming out of my mouth was a lie.
"Yes. Busy," I said with a small shrug.
"I don't believe you and I would like to know where the hell you have been," he questioned.
"I was here the entire time,"
"Don't you dare try to trick me,"
"Ooh I'm so scared," I said taunting him.
"I just want you to remember one thing, I have an insane amount of money and with money I can make anyone and everyone disappear," he said his voice completely flat. But his eyes however were telling a different story. His gray eyes were stormy and dancing with fire. His eyes told me that he was serious and he would actually make me disappear. I had to admit that he actually did intimidate me quite a bit.
"Again with the threats? This is a little ridiculous even for you Xan," I smirked a little, trying to cover up the fact that I was slightly scared. I did also feel brilliant for coming up with a nickname that I knew would annoy him to no end.
"I am going to ignore the fact that you have completely destroyed my name and move on to more important issues. Like the fact that we haven't planned anything for our engagement party. This is the one event that has to go perfectly, absolutely perfect, not even one mistake,"
"I get it, but do we have to plan the party now? KUWTK is on,"
"Yes, you idiot. It's five days from now. I literally couldn't have picked a stupider woman," he said with his voice laced with annoyance.
"In that case, this stupid woman is telling you to leave her property before she calls the cops," I informed him, shutting the door. In a flash, Alexander stuck his foot in the doorway preventing the door from closing.
"Let me in,"
"No," I replied.
"That was not a question,"
"Oh really?"
"You are the most infuriating, stubborn and maddening woman I have ever met. I cannot believe that you are so annoying. For once I would like it if you would listen to me but no that is too much to ask from you. You always have to start an argument over nothing. In fact, I will go as far as saying you are selfis-,"
Before he finished his rant about how horrible I was, I cut him off, "You need to calm down and breath,"
"Breath? I do not have time to breath. This party is probably the single most important moment in my life. There can be nothing wrong,"
"Relax, there is only a few mil on the line here," I informed Alexander desperately trying to diessapitate his anger. I knew that an angry Alexander would not be pleasant to deal with. Alexander looked as if he want to say something but then shut his mouth and started to furiously run his hands through his hair, if he kept doing that he would be bald at 30.
"Where is Alessandra? The greedy blonde who couldn't wait to get her hands on this few mil? The cold hearted bitch that only cares about money?" He said looking at me skeptically as if something was wrong.
"I don't think anybody has called me a cold bitch as a compliment," I commented.
Once again his eyes landed on me, his eyes fixed on my sweatpants, "Are you wearing sweatpants? Have you forgotten, you will be the future Mrs. Markos. She needs to be a style icon not some hobo," he said eyeing my sweatpants with extreme distaste.
"For your information, this sweatpants costed $300,"
"I don't care how much those pants cost, you look ridiculous. I preferred your stripper clothes,"
"Aren't you just so sweet, my fiancé," I mused.
"We cannot get off schedule. We have five days to plan this whole party. And we have to make sure everything goes without a hitch," he said glaring at me.
"I am almost a hundred percent sure that no one will show up if we send them an invite to a party five days from now,"
"I am Alexander Markos,"
"Like that means something,"
"It means something to everyone except for you,"
"It means nothing to everyone except for you,"
Ignoring my last comment, he said,"Let's get planning," Easily moving me aside to step into my house.
With a groan, I stepped aside to let Alexander all the way in my house.
"I swear if you make me do some 'light reading' like last time, I will murdered you right now," I said giving him my most threatening look.
"One must be prepared to fight their battles,"
"What the hell is that supposed to mean,"
"If you were educated you would know,"
"Shut up and follow me," I said guiding him to the sunroom.
We had five days to plan the most believable engagement party. I wasn't sure that the both of us would be able to pull this charade off. Everything would be easier once we were married.
I am sooooo sorry, I know it's been like a month since I last update. And I also know this is kind of a filler chapter but I promise the next chapter will be interesting!
