Spiderwoman: Gods of Egypt; Part 1

In an unknown location, there is a man talking to someone or something.

"Yes, my lord, this 'Spiderwoman'," started the man, mocking the name Spiderwoman, "Is the avatar of Neith."

"Tch, Neith had always stood in my way, time and time again," said the figure, "No matter, soon she and all the others, will fall before me."

"And I shall serve you, just as the ones before me," said the man.

The figure chuckles darkly and says, "We shall see."

***

"It's been a couple of weeks since that whole HYDRA thing, and now Neith tells me that someone else is causing trouble, but she is investigating on her end," thought Gabriella, as she is in class of her high school.

Her teacher is talking, "Okay, so how do we calculate linear acceleration between points A and B?"

She was very deep in thought, that she didn't hear her teacher call her name, "Ms. O'Hara. Ms. O'Hara."

She didn't see her teacher approach.

SLAM!

Her teacher dropped one of Gabriella's heavy books onto the ground, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Ms. O'Hara since you have thought out the question so hard, would you care to answer?" asked her teacher.

Gabriella looks on the board to see a diagram with a pendulum, "Uh... Mass cancels out, so it's just gravity times sine."

"Hm. Right," said her teacher and walked back to the front.

After class, she is standing in front of her locker, grabbing a book from it until she was approached by one of her classmates, "Hey Gabbie!"

She turns to see a teen, same age as her, she smiles and says, "Hey, Peter."

"What's up?" he asked.

"The sky," she sarcastically.

"Oh, ha ha. But seriously, what's up with you? You've been blanking a lot, like a lot, a lot," he said, concerned.

"Look, there's no need to worry, besides I'm a big girl," she said.

"Alright," he said reluctantly, then the bell rings, "See you around," and he left.

She nods, then she hears, "Spider, meet me after your classes."

She sighs and whispers, "Okay."

Hours later, after school, she went out to meet with the goddess at a discreet location.

"So, what did you find?" she asked.

"Nothing, however, I overheard some mortals about an interesting transaction about some weapons. I got closer look at one of them and they bared some sort of strange marking," said Neith.

"Hm, that does sound suspicious, I'll check it out. When will they meet?" she asked.

Neith answers, "Luckily they're meeting tonight, I'll give you the location."

She tells her avatar, and she disappears.

Gabriella then went home to tell her dad, as she summoned her suit.

"Hey, dad, I'll be out late," she told him and left through the window.

"Okay! And I'll just be here..." he said.

After some time, Spiderwoman reached the location where Neith had led her to. She looked around and saw a couple of suspicious figures, so she follows them.

"Looks like we found either the buyers or the sellers" whispered Spiderwoman as she followed them.

"The question is what is the product?" asked Neith.

"Looks like we're about to find out," said Spiderwoman. She then follows them into an abandoned building, and she hears voices.

"So, when will they be coming?" asked a male voice.

"Soon, said that they'll be here in three minutes," answered another.

"We should hurry it up though," said a third.

"Why scared that the avengers or that Spider girl be busting in here?" teased a fourth.

"Not exactly," answered the third.

"Relax, nobody knows about this only the guy up top and us do," said the fourth as he chuckled.

Spiderwoman looks at Neith and she looks at her with a deadpan look. Then they hear an engine, they see a couple of trucks drive in. A few men came out.

"How's it going boys?" asked the fourth who seemed way to relax.

The men who came out of the trucks remain, until another door opens and a man in a white suit comes out, "I'm doing quite well thank you very much," he said and walks up to the four.

The fourth man walks up to the white-suited man, "I hope you're satisfied with what we got Mr. Miller, it was a bit difficult to acquire it."

"Of course," said Mr. Miller, and the four men brought out a crate. They open it, revealing on what looks like it to be a relic. It looked egyptian.

"I can't see shit from here," whispered Spiderwoman so she summons Spidey, "Hey little guy think you can get a little closer look without getting caught?"

The little spider chirped and scurried off. Only for him to come back quickly, "That was fast..." she muttered, until the little buddy was chirping rapidly, "Woah, woah, slow down..." Until she felt a threatening aura.

"Little Spider we must flea now!" ordered Neith, hastily.

"Got it," said Spiderwoman shakily and swings away from the scene.

She lands on a roof, "What the hell was that Neith!" she asked.

"I don't know but I believe that was a rogue Avatar I'm sure of it and that relic..." said Neith.

"What the hell do we do about that then?! Did you feel what I felt, it felt like he could level the entire city!" said Spiderwoman, still freaked out.

"I know, I know," said the goddess.

"Shouldn't we tell the other gods, er, the ennead, don't they know about him?" asked the young avatar.

"I'm afraid it won't work, ever since the humans stopped worshipping us, well, they sworn not interfere," answered Neith and Spiderwoman sighs. Then they heard chirping from Spidey.

"What is little guy?" asked Spiderwoman. After a few chirps, she was able to decipher what he said, "So, they're going to be in Cairo with that thing."

"I guess that narrows down on where they're going to be next," said Neith.

"Looks like I'm going back to Egypt," said Spiderwoman then she asks, "How am I going to get to Egypt?"

"Oh, I have a few friends that can help us," answered Neith with a smile.

"I'll have to pack a bag at least and tell dad about it first," said Spiderwoman and the goddess agreed. So, she went home.

She gets home and goes to her dad.

"Hey, hey kid! So, any crimes you stopped, robbery, burglary," just as he was about to rant.

"Dad, dad," said Gabriella, "I need to get to Egypt."

He stopped, "Egypt?"

"Yeah, apparently some rogue avatar is on the loose and I need to stop him," explained Gabriella.

He sighs, "Okay then, I can get you a ride and," he was about to continue.

"Actually, Neith already has something in mind on how to get there faster," she said.

He smiles, "Well, look at you, you're quick on your feet and ready to save the world again."

She smiles.

A few minutes later she has duffle bag packed and ready to go. Her dad asks her, "You have your phone, wallet, clothes, water bottle?"

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes dad, I got all I need," she said and went to hug him.

He hugged back and says, "Good luck."

She says, "Thanks," and walked out the door, "So, Neith, where do we go to see this friend of yours?"

Neith smiles and says, "Follow me."

Gabriella follows her and arrives to a strange building with a weird looking window. "Should I knock?" she asked.

"Of course," answered Neith.

And so, she does. She knocked three times and the door opened on its own, "Weird she thought," and she went in, "Hello? Hellooo? Creepy... Hello anybody here?" She then hears another door open. "Again, creepy," she walked through the door, and she felt like she walked through water for a moment.

She is now in an entirely different room, she sees the Earth floating above her and in the middle of the room there is a strange amulet that looked like an eye, "Hm."

"Are you Neith's avatar?" asked a voice, female.

Gabriella turned to see who it was, and she sees a woman in yellow robes and has a bald head, she walked to her with some grace.

"Er, yes I am ma'am, Ms. er," said Gabriella, hoping for her name.

"I am the Ancient One," introduced the woman in front of her.

"Ah, so, you're friends with Neith?" asked the teen.

"You can say that, and she also said that I would help you get to Cairo," said the woman.

"Yes! That would be super helpful!" said Gabriella.

The Ancient One chuckled and said, "She was thinking that you still need to get around the world yourself."

"What?" asked Gabriella.

"She wanted me to help you to get to Cairo yourself," she said.

"What, but how? I can't exactly fly you know..." said Gabriella.

"No, you can't, you can only do so much in the air," agreed the Ancient One.

"So, what can I do?" she asked.

The Ancient One smiled and showed something special, orange sparks came out from her hands as they shaped into different forms.

"You can use magic," said the woman.

"I don't even know how to do that," said the teen.

"That's why she led you here, to learn," said the Ancient One.

"Learn?! But we don't have time!" shouted Gabriella, only to realize that she yelled, "Sorry..."

"Yes, time is of the essence, but we'll teach only a few things," said the Ancient One.

"Okay," and they both walk out to the courtyard, Gabriella looks around to see how busy the place is.

"We'll begin with your traveling skills," said the Ancient One as they stopped in a more secluded area, and she hands the teen a strange ring.

"What is it?" she asked.

"That is a sling ring, meant to open portals for you and for you to travel through," answered the woman.

"Got it," and slides the ring onto her two fingers.

"Watch what I do," said the woman in yellow and she does a circular motion with her hands and orange sparkles appeared in front of her.

"Woah," and Gabriella saw a circle appearing with an entirely different area in it and the circle disappears.

The woman stops and turns to her, "Oh, do what you do, okay," and Gabriella starts making her own motion, there was some sparks, but nothing happened.

She sighs and stops, "I don't know if I'm cut out for this," she said.

"You must clear your mind, allow the power to flow through you," advised the Ancient One.

Noticing Gabriella's confusion, she decided to do something, she opened a portal again, "Follow me," she told her, and the teen followed her.

They step through and Gabriella is now freezing she looked around and took in the environment, they are in the mountains!

"Mount Everest," said the woman.

"This is Mount Everest?!" chattered Gabriella as she wrapped her arms around herself. She then turns around to see the woman in yellow gone, "Oh you gotta be shitting me!?"

Back at the courtyard, Neith is standing next to the Ancient One, "You left her there?" asked the goddess, almost deadpanning.

"She just needs a bit of encouragement," said the woman.

"Not again..." muttered Neith.

Back at Mount Everest, the teen is seen struggling opening a portal back to the courtyard. She let's out a frustrated yell and looked around, she's getting colder and colder by the second.

Then she takes a deep breath, and she tries again and again.

Meanwhile, in the courtyard, the Ancient One and Neith continue to wait, Neith is getting a little anxious. Until they saw little sparks. These sparks start forming a circle and eventually a portal opened, and Gabriella fell through.

She asks, "W-was t-that g-good?" as she shivered.

Sometime later, they are now inside the main building, and she is drinking some hot tea as she had a blanket covering her. The Ancient One spoke, "So, you need to find the rogue avatar."

"Yes, somehow this one has immense power, I felt, just as she did," confirmed Neith.

"We saw something, a relic of some sort," said Gabriella.

"Then you must figure out what it is," said the Ancient One and the teen nods and then they hear a clock chime, "You're running out of time."

Gabriella nods, she puts down the now-empty cup and grabs her bag and sling ring. She then starts doing the circular motion with her arm as she had the picture of Cairo in her mind. A portal opened and just before she stepped through, she hears the woman in yellow offer, "If you want to increase your skill in magic you can return."

"Thanks, maybe I will," said Gabriella and she steps through the portal with Neith following her behind and the portal closes. The teen looks around to see that her surroundings is the familiar desert, and she sees the city of Cairo and she makes her way there.

"Can't believe I'm back," muttered Gabriella as she walks to the city.

After some time, she is in the city wandering through the busy streets, listening at everyone's conversations to hear any clues. Then she told Neith, "I can't find anything here, I'll head up to one the roofs."

***

Now, she is in her suit and stands on top of one of the buildings in Cairo, overlooking the city.

"Neith, this is a bit hard for me, I can't really identify anyone here because there's too many people right now," she said to her goddess.

"This one's is hiding in plain sight, he's a smart one," said Neith.

"So, what do we do?" asked Gabriella.

"I got us some assistance," revealed Neith.

"Oh, really? Who?" asked Gabriella, kind of excited to finally meet a fellow avatar.

"You'll meet him here tonight," said Neith, annoying her avatar.

She rolls her eyes, until she saw strange movement in the streets, "Hmm," and she stood up and she starts jumping from roof to roof to follow the figure.

After a few minutes she somehow loses the figure, "What the hell? Neith, did you see it?" she asked.

"The movement yes, who it was no," answered Neith.

"Damn it, guess then we'll wait for the other avatar for now," said Gabriella and retreated back to her hotel.

Just as Neith was about to join her, she feels a sharp pain in her head and has a small vision of a man, she heard his dark laughter. She shakes off the pain as she snaps out of the vision.

"No... it can't be... No..." muttered Neith and she goes to join her avatar.

Back at the hotel, Gabriella is on her phone talking to her dad.

"Hey, dad," she said.

"Hey kid, so, how's the mission going?" he asked.

"Slow. We haven't even found the guy yet," answered the teen, "But, we're going to have another person join us."

"Another avatar?" he asked, curiously.

"Yeah, I'm going to be meeting with him tonight," she said.

"That's good to hear, do you need any help from me?" he asked.

"No, well, at least not yet" she admitted, "I'll give you call if I need anything."

As they were talking, she was unknowingly being watched.

***

After some time, it was now nightfall and so she had to go meet her temporary partner, "Okay dad, I got go."

"Good luck out there," he said, and she hung up. She summoned her suit, and she went to the balcony.

Spiderwoman swung to the same roof she was on earlier and looked around, "Am I early or late?" she wondered out loud as she didn't see a fellow avatar around.

"Actually, you're right on time," said a voice behind her, well more like above her. She turned around to see a man clad in white on another roof that was a tad bit higher than the one she's standing on.

She was the saying to Neith, "Oh, look, look, he's about to do a superhero landing."

And just like that he jumped from that roof and landed in front of her, doing the cliche superhero pose, with being down on one knee and one of his arms being lifted.

"Woo, superhero landing!" clapped Spiderwoman and now that he is closer, she got a better look at him. He is fully dressed in white, donned with a hood and cape. When he got up, she saw that he is also fully masked, and he had glowing white eyes. She also a saw a crescent moon symbol on his chest too.

"Moon Knight," he introduced himself.

"Oh, we're using our made-up names. I'm Spiderwoman then," introduced the teen.

"Wow, anyways, so do we know who we're after?" she asked.

"No," he said bluntly.

"Shit, I thought you knew," she grumbled.

Then he abruptly says, "Follow me," and he starts going from roof to roof.

"Uh, hey! Wait for me!" she shouts and runs after him.

As they go across the roofs, she asks question after question, "So, who's avatar are you? Can you fly? What's with the cape? What are your powers?"

"You're asking me a lot of questions kid," commented Moon Knight.

"Er, sorry..." said Spiderwoman.

They continue to make their way across the city until they stop at some sort of building, there is lights and loud music.

"Sounds like a club," she muttered, then she asks, "What are we doing here?"

"Konshu found out where the buyer of the relic is going to be, and he's going to be here," explained Moon Knight.

"The buyer... Miller, a name I overheard when I was investigating this back in New York," said Spiderwoman, "What exactly is it?"

"That's what we're hoping to find out," said Moon Knight.

The two find an entrance that is behind the building, and they took down two guards that are there easily. They sneak their way in, and they end up getting a bit too close to the club-goers. Until Spiderwoman sees the man in white again, and she points to him and whispers, "There! That's the guy I saw who was getting the thing and he was the one who is called Miller."

He started looking around, "What are you looking for?" asked Spiderwoman.

"A vent, we can't go through this unseen, but since you're smaller you can get there faster, I'll stay behind and I'll come if things go south," answered Moon Knight, and he finds a small, but manageable vent for the teen to crawl through, "There," he points to it. It is above three crates.

She looks at the vent and she look back at him, he could tell she is a bit nervous, "Hey, I may not be the best at pep talk, but I'll be here, okay?" She nods, takes a deep breath, and climbs up to the vent. She crawls through, going over the party goers and getting closer to the private room that overlooks the dance floor.

Then she stops and looks down to see that she is over a vent that is right above the man in white and he's talking to someone or something. She looked closer and saw that he is talking to air? Confusion is written on her face, until it clicked. This guy is the avatar that she is looking for, it's got to be him, since she can't really see other avatar's gods, unless they make their presence known, she can only see her own.

Just as she was about to head back to Moon Knight, he sees the man look up to the vent where she was hovering above, and he smiles. "Shit," she thinks, "He can't see me, I'm just paranoid."

BOOM!

An explosion caught her off guard as then fell harshly to the ground, and she now lays on her stomach in front of the man and she coughs several times as the wind is knocked out of her. There are screams coming from below, and the club-goers are running out for their lives.

"You really think I'm that stupid?" asked the man, a but smugly as she still coughs. She then sees the relic, it is some sort of staff, "Ah, you're probably wondering what that is," said the man, "Let me show you."

He kicks her, making her skid across the ground, and he picks up the staff. He pointed it at her, and it glows, "Oh shit," she closed her eyes, until BAM! The man is knocked away by a white blur.

She looks up to see Moon Knight offering a hand up, she takes it and she gets up on her feet. Then the man, Miller, gets up and he laughs, "Moon Knight, didn't think you'd show up with her."

Moon Knight retorts, "You didn't expect me?"

"No, after all, he only wants Neith," said Miller.

"Neith? Why would he want her?" asked Spiderwoman, impatiently.

"I would tell you, but you'll be dead before you get to hear it," said Miller and he slams the staff down and jackals appear to be crawling up from the ground, he turns his back to leave as he orders, "Capture Spiderwoman, kill the other," and he walks out.

The two heroes are now surrounded by jackals, "You take the ones on the left and I take the ones on the right?" suggested Spiderwoman.

"Sounds like a plan," agreed Moon Knight.

Then the jackals charged at them. The two fight them, but with every passing minute, they are growing exhausted as the jackals won't stop coming. As the teen heroine is punching one of the jackals on the ground, she didn't see another coming at her from behind.

Moon Knight noticed and shouts, "SPIDERWOMAN!" she turns to see it, but too late, she got scratched in the face, "AAH!" she held her face, since her suit can't really block other Egyptian magic attacks that well, her face is now bleeding.

Her partner rushes to her as he punches the jackal, who attacked her, away. He picks her up and says, "We're getting outta here," and he rushes for the window near them. He jumps out with her in his arms. As for Spiderwoman, she passes out from the pain, and everything turns to black.
