Chapter One

The goddess of wild things. That job actually is pretty fun, I love it beyond measure. To explain who I am though, I think it is fair to start at the beginning of my story. All the way back to the birth of a boy and a girl thousands of years ago.

It was a cloudy day, the wind pushed vigorously against the young pregnant women. The big muscular man beside her held both her shoulder and her hand to try and relax her and give her some of his own strength. With one final push the first child was born. A handsome baby boy.

As he came into the world the clouds parted and the sunlight beamed on him, and a song from far away blew through the air. The father, Zeus, smiled with great pride at this boy. The mother Leto, did the same, she was very happy to have this new child.

The birthing was not over yet though, another child was meant to be born as well. A beautiful baby girl.

Leto kept pushing, while Zeus continued to hold her with one arm and his new son with his other. With one exaggerated breath, the second child was born. With this one however, the sky darkened, and wolves began to howl. The wind blew harder and harder until Zeus realized he would have to intervene before the entire forest would blow away, to be lost forever in the heavens.

Animals began to gather around with cries of triumph, of pride, to this new baby girl. This made Zeus afraid. He began to call the clouds to leave and they did, as he was the god of the heavens. Next however he attempted to make the animals go away, but they just continues to stomp, howl, and cry unto the child. This angered him because he was also the god of the earth, which would include the animals, and he felt they should obey him without hesitation.

He stormed off to his home on mount Olympus, leaving the titan, Leto alone with the new born twins. The animals took notice of her fatigue and moved closer, the wolves took the baby girl, along with deer, lions, and the birds. While the other animals such as squirrels, monkeys, and panthers took the boy. They began to gently swaddle the two newborns and nurse them. Leto saw this and thanked them while resting against a tree.

She then whispered to the forest "my son will be named Apollo, the god of intelligence, literature and music. My daughter though, will be Artemis, the goddess of the forests, the hunt, and wild things."
