Birth

Looking around a dark cavern with no memory or knowledge of who I am or how I got here, I first realized that though there were no sources of light, I saw with ease every corner, every crevice, and every sloping piece of rock surrounding me. Suddenly my head feels as though it is about to burst as an overwhelming torrent of information rushes into me, stimulating senses I didn't previously know I even had. Knowledge of endless cultures and civilizations, beautiful landscapes and vistas were painted into my mind, and the infinite beauty and chaos of existence overwhelmed me as I felt the power of the cosmos within my webbed claws' grasp.

Now moving on to the strange task of observing my form, i felt the presence of hundreds, if not thousands, of muscular webbed claws protruding from the underside of my elongated, slimy torso as it curled around the cavern in seven armored sections. Prickly spikes ran along the top of my enormously proportioned forehead, beneath them a multitude of small, beady black eyes that darted around the in the dark independent of each other, below them, a gaping mouth full of countless sharp teeth, and a tongue that runs back all the way into the rest of my body, capable of acting as an independent limb.

Beyond my field of sight, I now know without seeing every twist and turn of the mysterious mass of rock surrounding me, and began following the necessary steps to escape the maze. "You must leave the Cocoon," a soft voice whispered, "to begin the journey of discovering your destiny." For what may have been mere minutes, or for what may have stretched out into eons of time, I explored the depths of my Cocoon, growing as I contemplated the soft whispers from an unknown source.

I finally stood before one of the openings of the Cocoon, and stared out into the expanse of space, the strange voice speaking once more. "You have now found your way out of the Cocoon," it said warmly, "And now you have begun the search for your destiny; a thing that will bring you across untold places, with untold endings." Reaching once again, deep into the recesses of the universe with the newfound powers of my mind, my imagination sparkled at all the possibilities of what my purpose might be. How exciting to think that, somewhere amidst all the stars and planets, my destiny awaited me, the only knowledge which was not at my finger tips!

But though I may exist for all eternity, I will also need to do my search as quickly and effectively as I can, not being as hasty as ruling out any possibility. One planet in particular especially attracted my attention, dubbed simply "Home" by its inhabitants. After thinking for quite some time, I decided to make my way towards it.

Beginning my descent, I felt as a powerful set of wings pushed their way out of my soft, jellylike body, propelling me slowly through the vast, starlit emptiness of space, bridging the gap between myself and my destination. Ages came, and ages passed, and for what may have been a million years or more, I observed these strange hairless pink primates with the bizarre telescopic powers of my mind, watching these humans as they went about their ways, completely ignorant of how truly short their lives are. The diversity in their kind never ceased to amuse me and amaze me; some advanced medicine, art, or architecture, and more, while others simply engaged in the simple task of sexual intercourse, caring for their homes as they birthed more and more of their own kind. But as I observed, I also noticed a common theme among the humans which stirred within me a deep disturbance; their increasing fondness towards the ways if violence and bloodshed. But I was still light-years away, and I could only watch as they slowly destroyed themselves.

As I settled upon the surface of one of their many moons, and tried to think of some tangible solution. How could I possibly make these now-warmongering people stop destroying each other. More centuries passed, and now as I watched, they destroyed the last of the plants and animals living there, and the entire surface of their planet had been covered and devastated by their deadly war machines and factory cities.

That's when I realized it. The only way to stop them from hating each other was to create a bigger, and namely, more horrible, enemy than any of them could ever dream of being for each other, and that great enemy would have to be me.

Now I descended down upon the surface of their home, and wreaked havoc across the many kingdoms of their world, destroying the largest of each of their cities, and killing an enormous amount of their kind without mercy. Now, they finally came together, and though I feared the ingenuity they would have once they joined forces, I was temporarily overjoyed that I had successfully ended their worthless bloodshed. I watched from my perches upon the tallest of the mountains, watching as they assembled their armies and super-weapons, cursing their name for me for the desolation of their precious cities and loved ones, even though if I had never stepped in, those would have been murdered by their own kind in the end anyway.

The leaders of their armies gathered around my perch upon a mountain, their men and creatures spouting more threats and insults. "Today, we unite, and kill this beast as of one kind! You were foolish to bring us together against you!"

I let out a small laugh. That was my goal all along.
