Chapter 7

Barry somehow invited Lizzie over for getting us out of our awkward situation. I decided to bake something for her, and Barry wanted to help. Now, Barry was amazing, but not in the kitchen.

Usually I would have this done in half an hour, and it would be neat and tidy. This was quite the opposite.

Barry was now sitting in the corner, where he said he would watch. He seemed worried, or seeming to think I was doing something wrong. I was making a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting; it wasn't rocket science.

Barry had stopped me from touching anything, and tried to do it himself. This, of course, ended in what I had now. I pushed the cake into the oven, which thankfully, wasn't harmed in the event. I then commenced in cleaning up after Barry, and as he got up to help, I shifted him into a turtle.

Barry was sweet, but I didn't want him to help with this. I loved baking, it was relaxing for me, but this was the most stressful bake I had ever done.

Barry looked up at me with a sort of frown. I shook my head at him. I quickly set to cleaning, and Barry walked around slowly, trying to clean up the floor.

There was flour everywhere; Barry had set the mixer to the highest, and therefore, an explosion occured. Eggs were cracked on the counters, and the original batch of batter was also smeared everywhere.

Once I had cleaned the counters, walls, and ceiling, I went to the floors. Barry had made quite the pile in the middle of the floor, for his speed, and I made sure to go over it again, just in case. I swept up the dirt, and I picked Barry up, holding him in front of my face. He stretched his neck and nipped my nose gently. I smiled at him and set him down before shifting him back.

He stared down at me with his arms crossed. I stared back up at him with complete innocence. He didn't say anything, so I walked past him, and out of the room, trying to stifle a laugh. I could almost feel the surprise rolling off of Barry, and I heard him turn.

He put his hand on my shoulder, and spun me around into his arms. He held me, lifting me so my feet merely brushed the floor, and eventually set me down.

"What do you want to do while we wait?" He inquired, like nothing had happened. I shrugged until I remembered. I nearly sprinted down the hallway, into the gaming room.

It was glorious. Barry earlier had shyly showed me the room with it's large screen, thinking I wasn't interested in it. He was wrong, and discovered this when I immediately sat down with a controller, readying a game. I did so again now, putting in a racing game for Barry and I. He walked in and collapsed onto the sofa, launching me into the air momentarily.

Before Barry was ready, I started the race, and he scrambled for the remote, dropping it more than once. By the time I made half a lap, he started. We played video games until the cake was ready to come out.

"How'd you beat me?" Barry asked again as I frosted the cake. We had played multiple rounds, each time I came out victorious. I shrugged once more, although I was intrigued about how well I could play. I finished smoothing the top of the frosting when I heard a knock on the door. I rushed to it, but Barry jumped in front of me. "Not so fast," was all he said before I shifted to a fox and ran underneath him, and changed back to run once more.

I reached the door, and opened it to find Lizzie. She stood slightly above me as I smiled up at her.

"Hi," I spoke, and Lizzie quickly ran in and shut the door behind her.

"I don't really want to get bombarded by another resident about what happened yesterday. You will have to continue with the brunch and greeting tomorrow, and don't do that again."

"Nice to see you too," I replied bluntly.

"I'm sorry, just so many people have been trying to communicate with me through my head, it's starting to give me a headache."

"Will a piece of cake help?" I started heading to the kitchen to find Barry had already gotten plates and forks out, and was busy cutting himself a slice. I cleared my throat, and he turned, caught in the act. Barry continued to cut slices for everyone else, trying to hide his guilty look.

I chuckled, and put my hand on his arm, and he looked at me quickly before finishing cutting the slices. Lizzie came in when we didn't come back out, "That looks amazing. Why did you make a cake?"

I shrugged and handed her a plate, "Well for starters, you fended off the crowd for me. Second, I like to bake."

Lizzie nodded, her mouth already full of the treat. I headed back to the living room, and sat on the couch, wrapping myself in a blanket. Barry and Lizzie came in soon after with milk.

Lizzie laughed, "How can you even get cake into your mouth? I can barely see your eyes."

I shrugged, and slipped a piece of cake into my mouth. Lizzie shook her head, and Barry chuckled.

Lizzie moved on to other matters, "Do you want me to announce the new picnic tomorrow for you?"

Barry spoke for me, "That would be great, thank you."

Lizzie paused a moment, seemingly in thought, "There. Tomorrow at eight they will come to greet you. Thank goodness, now they'll stop."

I buried myself deeper into my blankets, if that was even possible. I continued eating my cake as Lizzie and Barry talked about people I didn't know. Lizzie parted ways with us, and promised to see us tomorrow during the picnic.
