Chapter 32 ~ Barry

"I love you!" I shouted as Chloe stepped through the barrier. I was about to step through and follow when the victim was taken up, and the barrier closed.

I looked back towards Chloe, and saw her lying motionless on the sidewalk.

"CHLOE!" I screamed. She didn't move, and I sat there as a gnome for what seemed like hours until she stirred.

She looked around, and when her eyes fell on me they widened in alarm, and she ran away.

She ran away.

I felt the pain of a thousand heartbreaks as she disappeared from view; she didn't want me anymore. She had gotten what she wanted, and now she could leave.

I could do nothing but walk back home, passing by her vacant room to reach mine.

I sat there in silent shock at the fact that she was gone. I was never going to see her again.

Gone.

Unwanted.

Alone.

I stayed there for weeks, unable to do anything, for none of it was worthwhile now. No one dared to speak to me, they knew that they wouldn't get a response.

Everything I saw reminded me of her. The kitchen, the living room, and even my room. I couldn't go anywhere without being washed over with a whole new wave of sadness.

I slept in the closet so I could sleep without her in my dreams. It was one of the few places I could go.

Today I had decided to walk outside. It was a bold choice, and I decided to dress up. This meant putting on clothes that didn't smell of her. I wore sweatpants and a rugged t-shirt.

I opened the door with a small groan, and was immediately blinded by the sunlight.

I stumbled forward as I shut the door behind me, and I began walking towards my destination. I was left to myself, for which I was grateful.

I knocked on Liam's door, and he immediately answered.

I walked in without another word, and he made way for me. I collapsed on the couch, and he sat delicately beside me.

"You really are a mess," He commented.

"Shut up."

I closed my eyes and slunk down on the couch.

"Dude, you need to pull yourself together. Come on."

"No."

His hand rested on my back, "Barry, this is unhealthy."

"I'm just handling some things." I mumbled.

"For an unhealthy amount of time."

"I guess I will just leave if you aren't going to help me." I didn't have plans to get up, and was heavily betting on Liam wanting me to stay.

"Fine then, leave. You were the one who said you didn't want to see me anymore."

Oh man, now I had to get up.

"Liam, I'm sorry. Just being bonded with her made me get tense when she was hurt, and I just knew that you were the cause of her pain. She gave me so much joy, so much energy. She was everything, and then once she left, she ran away with all she had. She didn't want me anymore. She only needed me for what she wanted. I was just something she could throw away, discard like I never existed. You don't understand what it's like to be left alone."

"You done ranting?" He inquired.

"Yes."

"Dude, I know I don't know what you are experiencing, but you need to get over this to a degree. You can try to escape and go after her - live your life with her. You deserve that happiness, that joy. I don't want to be in the way, but I am happy to help in any way I can. Plus, you deserve to try her raspberry pie. It is heaven."

My eyebrows furrowed, "When did she give you..."

"That doesn't matter. You did your things when she wasn't looking, and she did hers."

I shrugged and slouched deeper into the couch, nearing sleep.

"What was Chloe's plan?" He asked.

I took a deep breath, "She remembered that the barrier weakened when someone came through, and that we could only leave as a human. So, she decided that Jessie would work as a lookout for when someone would come. Then she struck a deal with Hannah to teleport her once she got wind. Then simply switch to a human and go through the barrier. And... and then she didn't come back. And I ran out of time."

"Oh. That's tough dude."

"Liam, it more than just tough. We just went through this. Why did I even come here?" I slowly eased myself up and off the couch and went out the door.

"Nice to see you too!" He shouted behind me.

I began to trudge my way to the only place that I knew I could feel relaxed.

The small hidden sanctuary was as peaceful as it always was. I sat and leaned up against the tree Chloe had fallen asleep under multiple times. I looked up to where she had leapt off the steep rock to plummet into the water. I thought she was going to die. So I had doven in after her as she fell deeper into the water. I grabbed her and pulled her out, which she seemed to dislike.

There were so many things I didn't get to do with her, things I wanted to see with her.

I missed her so much.
