Chapter 29
I re-explained my plan to Jessie, and soon we were chilling in my room, the pies cooking in the oven.
"Thanks for doing this," I said for the hundredth time.
"It's no big deal, but I mean, I'm gonna miss you a lot."
"We barely even know each other," I sighed sadly.
"Yeah, but I feel like I've known you for a while now."
I didn't respond and simply shifted into a serval, stretching myself out before walking to Jessie's lap. I spread out across her crossed legs and she sighed as she began to pet me from my neck down to my tail.
"I actually quite like having the roles reversed," She commented. I let out a rumble that was deep in my throat, and Jessie giggled.
"What do you want to do?" She asked.
I hopped down from her lap and headed out the door, and made sure she was following me.
Then we made our way to the video game room.
Of course, Jessie was thrilled with the experience.
"Thumbs are amazing!"
I laughed as Jessie concentrated on her hands, and struggled at playing the game she had chosen. Although, it was a very boring game. I do not wish to speak its name, and will let you linger with that haunting your mind.
I curled up on the couch, and yawned before watching Jessie struggle but enjoy the game.
I heard the timer on the oven go off, and left the room to take the pies out.
Once I shifted and pulled them out, I asked Lizzie to have Hannah come pick them up.
"Thank you for this." I said to Hannah with a smile.
"It's really no problem," She said in a bored tone, "I can go anywhere like that." Snapping her fingers for emphasis.
"Well then, I hope you enjoy all three pies, and the dog. I hope you enjoy your life here"
"Will do. I still don't understand why you're trying to leave if everything you remember is gone. And you have Barry, and all these amazing powers." Hannah shrugged.
"Barry's coming with me. There's no way I would leave him behind after all that we've gone through."
"Then I guess you're all set. What are you planning on doing when you're free?"
"I'm not sure. I guess live on with Barry and see where it goes from there."
"Good luck with that" Hannah said before she vanished out of thin air.
I let out a soft sigh before going into the living room to check in on Barry and Nicole, to find that they were playing a card game while gambling cookies I had made earlier.
Barry looked up, "Hi Chloe! How is everything?"
"Good. How's your game?"
"Nicole is being schooled!" He said triumphantly.
"No I'm not! I just can't help but eat these!"
I smiled, "I'm glad they're good."
"So what did you leave Jessie doing?" Nicole sidetracked.
"Just playing a video game."
"Chloe! What were you thinking!? She's a cat! She is going to break it!"
"It's fine. Barry can make a new one."
"Sure..."
"FINE I'll go check on her! Happy?" I exclaimed.
Nicole smirked as I walked out of the room to check on Jessie.
When I walked back I could only hear utter silence.
"Jessie?"
"Yes?" She timidly responded.
I turned the corner to find that Jessie was caught in a tangle of wires.
"How?!"
"I thought I saw a mouse."
Of course.
"Well, come on." I shifted her back into a cat, and she was able to easily crawl out and up to me.
I knelt down and picked her up before walking back into the living room. Nicole had a proud expression on her face as I set Jessie on the ground for her to do as she pleased.
I sat next to Barry and grabbed one of the cookies, but his hand stopped me.
"Those are valuable!"
"They are just cookies. It will be okay."
"But you made these," He persisted.
"I can make more." I smiled.
"Stop it with the romantics, I have a game to win." Nicole interjected.
