Chapter 11

I awoke in the morning to find Barry waiting at the door with breakfast. I sat up quickly, and tried to flatten my hair to look more presentable. Now I didn't look like I had just spun my hair in the dryer. How long had he been standing there?

Barry smiled, and placed the tray in front of me. He sat on the end of the bed, "How'd you sleep?"

"Great, I started and finished a book too," His reaction was priceless. I didn't put the book down until I had finished it, and sleep wasn't even a concern.

I yawned as Barry made himself more comfortable.

"Do you want to catch me?" Barry didn't give me time to respond before he shifted to a small dog. I stared at him for a bit until he spoke, "I sorta got Lizzie to make you shift me. Just this once, promise."

"You mean she can also control my Gift? That is messed up," I shook my head, I was going to be talking with Lizzie later...

Barry then looked at my tray then back at me. I understood what he meant. He ran out of the room, and out of sight.

I commenced to start eating. It was actually really good. Someone must have helped Barry, or he had been practicing cooking without me. He had made pancakes, eggs, and some strawberries were on the side. I finished it with record speed, and shifted into a small wolf to follow him. This was a chase I was sure to win.

I tried to pick up his scent as I ran along. I thought I got it, and I chased after it. Soon I was able to locate the dog, and once he spotted me, he ran full tilt, but it was nothing compared to my long bounds.

Barry launched himself into the air, and shifted to a bird. I took off after his failing flight, and soared above him, as I scoped out where he was going to fall.

Then, Barry dived down into a small pond that I hadn't noticed before. I dove after him, but it dawned on me that I had never done any aquatic animals before. I transformed into the first animal that came to mind at the moment.

I swam through the water as my feet pushed it behind me, I realized that I was actually gaining on Barry, who was a turtle. It was strange being able to breath underwater. I darted under a rock when Barry turned around to see if someone was following him. Being a frog gave me an advantage.

Barry was looking around frantically, and surfaced. He shifted back into himself, "Chloe! Are you okay!?"

He was frantic, and it almost made me snicker, until I felt bad for him. I swam up to him and popped out as I shifted back. He darted towards me as I dove back underwater once more.

I swam to a pile of rocks, and waited in a small cave. Barry soon swam up to me, and then swam away. I followed him, curious as to what he was doing.

After about a minute of him not noticing me, I swam in front of him. He continued swimming and ran right into me. I quickly regained balance, and watched Barry's confused expression. I tried to speak, and bubbles erupted from my mouth, and Barry carefully swam towards me. He pointed upwards as he began to ascend. I followed, still curious as to what was going on.

We surfaced with a loud splash, and by now I was soaked. Barry stared in my general direction, a foot away, but his eyes didn't focus, "Chloe? Where are you?"

"Here," I whispered. I must have done it again. I tried to become visible once more, and I stared at Barry intently.

His hair was dripping, catching the morning light. He smiled, and his green eyes glimmered.

"Nice to see you again."

I laughed. We walked out of the water, and I squeezed the excess water out of my shirt.

We got back home and changed into some new clothes, and I sat in the living room, waiting for Barry.

Once he came out of his room, a plan for the rest of the day came to mind, "Can you teach me how to draw?"

Barry blushed, and I looked at the ground shyly.

"Sure," I jerked my head up. He started walking to his room, and I followed.

He sat down at his desk, which was surprisingly larger than I remembered. He pulled up another chair, and I sat down. Out of a drawer Barry pulled out two pieces of paper and an additional two pencils.

"What do you want to draw?" He asked.

I shrugged, "Whatever you want to do."

After a minute, Barry began showing me the base of what we were drawing. As time went on, I had added a stroke, one at a time, and created a drawing of my own.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like Barry's drawings, nothing can be, but it was decent. I had drawn a pair of birds in a tree, and the sun rising as they leaned against one another. Then I looked back at Barry's.

He had so much more depth, shadow, and detail then what I had. Barry draped his hand over my shoulders, and pulled me into a small hug. I rested my head on his shoulder.

"You did great," Barry consoled, "That is amazing for your level of expertise. Not to say that your level is low, you're actually really talented."

I put on a small smile, and stared at the artwork I had created.

Suddenly, Barry stirred, and I got off him.

"What do you want to do now?" Barry asked. It was now evening, and almost six o'clock. A lot of time had passed. I shrugged, and laid down on Barry's bed, splaying my arms out.

With a sigh, I shifted into a bird, and flew out Barry's open window.

"Chloe!" Barry shouted. I had no idea what I was doing. I flew towards a river, which I had noticed a while ago, but hadn't taken interest in. I landed on the bank of it, and dipped my head into the water, the refreshing cold waking me up.

I jumped into the water, and shifted to a duck, before rising back up. The water slid off my feathers as I dove back under the water. The world under the water was wonderful. Fish swam under and around me, there was peace.

I then sprang out of the water for air, and I heard a sound. I turned, and I saw Barry jogging towards me. I took to the air once more as Barry stared up at me. I hovered in midair, and looked at Barry from down below.

"Come down here," Barry started, but I didn't comply as I darted for the trees. He ran after me, and as I looked behind me, I saw that he could run surprisingly fast. I turned around quickly, and headed to Lizzie's house. Lizzie had pointed out where she lived a while back, but I hadn't thought to visit her.

On the way, I got sidetracked. There was a tall hill to the side, and in it there was an outcropping, or cave. I flew towards it, and landed, this was very high up, and I began looking inside the strange formation. Suddenly I heard a sound behind me.
