Chapter 10

The memory ended. But I was caught off guard, and stumbled, sending me going off into a somersault, something that was extremely awkward for a horse. Barry stopped and came over when I was trying to get back up. I shifted us back, and Barry began helping me up, even though I didn't need it.

"Are you okay? What happened?" Barry asked with concern.

"I'm fine, I just got distracted, " I would probably tell Barry later, I just didn't want to right now, I felt watched, even though no one was in sight.

We went back to our house, and I went straight to my room and sat down.

Barry knew something was up, "What is it?"

"I had a memory,"

Barry stared at me wide-eyed, "Some people do get a little bit of a memory. When was this from?"

I told him what I remembered as he sat in shock; I hoped he was actually listening.

Barry took a moment to process the information, "I am sorry you experienced the, um, herding. It is what we call what happens when someone is forced into the house. We don't want to do it, promise, it's just that when the person steps onto the property, we all get controlled, and well, yeah." Barry looked down, and ran a hand through his hair.

"It's not your fault. I am sure the same will happen to me. You said that they come at least once every two months, right?"

Barry nodded, "One should be coming soon."

The conversation ended and I rested my head on his shoulder. We sat in silence as we looked at the sunset outside.

We ended the night and went to bed. Sleeping was strange now. I didn't need it, but I would get bored fast if I just sat staring at the ceiling. Then I slapped myself in the forehead. I literally had a library in my room. I hadn't really looked at the books on my shelves, I mostly spent my time with Barry. Jeese, was I clingy. Or was it the other way around?

I got up and walked to my shelves, which had books as well as strange knicknacks.

Some titles I didn't recognize, but some seemed oddly familiar. I grabbed one off my shelves, and started reading. It captivated me in the story of two lovers that started with a joyful beginning, but ended in a loop of love as it repeated over again. This was a story I understood. The only way that a happy ending could happen was if the people had completely lost their memory - and that wasn't going to happen to me.
