Chapter 4 The Fair Maiden
The sound of boots colliding against the ground made my azure eyes gaze up to catch sight of the young King. He stood tall and he stared down at me; his glare making me feel much more inferior than before, as it dug deep into my soul.
I looked to the blade on his side and gulped at the thought of him slamming his sword down upon my inferior body. However, he moved his hand towards a guard, signaling him to help me stand up.
As the guard grabbed onto my arm and I steadily stood onto both of my feet, Arthur's structure changed from a horrifying looking brute to a young good boy. Now that I look at him closely, he appears to be an inch shorter than me. Huh, who would have expected?
"Is there anything you may require?" He spoke up. His voice causing me to come back to life.
"Um..." I gazed around nervously. "I may need somewhere to stay if it's not too much of trouble that is." I slightly shudder at the dark glares the guards aimed towards me.
The young King shakes his head. "No, no trouble at all." He responded kindly. Arthur notices the nervousness showing on my face. He turned on his heel and looked at the guards behind him. His eyebrows furrowing, he reprimands them sternly. "What are you doing standing there? Don't you think you have harassed this poor boy enough? Get back to work!"
"Yes, your Majesty!" they answer in a strange unison. The guards quickly stride away, following orders from their King.
I am amazed at his competence as a king and his bearing, almost seeming like an adult. 'Hey! You aren't allowed to be that cool,' I shout in my head, feel my brows furrowing down while looking at him as he is focused onto the guards, but then my brows slowly lighten up. 'He is really cool though...'
"Thank you, your Majesty," I say in a daze, but still bowing my head down to show my sincerity. Although he raises a brow at my dazed expression, he changes the conversation along with ease.
"No need to thank me. It is our fault for not disciplining our guards well enough. I will instruct a few maids to set you up with a room in the palace until you can get a job and a home of your own, but you only have four months to live here. After that, you will be dismissed."
"Understood," I replied in a serious tone.
Following this, Arthur was dragged away by a young girl whose name I couldn't quite catch. The two seem to be quite close from their casual atmosphere. I think the girl's name was Elaine or something along those lines.
My eyes roam away to the others around me. Some stride by, minding their own business, while others chat along, smiling and laughing as they talked along about a certain topic. I try to join in a few or say a small 'hello', but they will either ignore me and not even bother to glance an eye towards my way. It would seem no one wants to talk to the strange person with an unknown background.
I decided to head to my room on my own as there was nothing else for me to do. Arthur has been taken away, probably to do king's duties, if only he had left someone to guide me to my room. Instead, I am stuck walking around, looking through the decor that clogs the hallway. I see many empty suits of armor on their pedestal, standing tall and mighty through the hallway. There are also seemingly priceless works of art and fancy rugs that appear to be soft.
At the corner of my eye, I spy a maid. Her hair wavy and a brown color similar to chocolate, and had a ruffled headpiece. Her eyes an emerald green. Tall in structure, but quite a beauty in sight. Upon her nose, is a pair of glasses, while she wore on a long gown with an apron and underneath a sleeveless tunic.
"Excuse me miss, would you happen to know where my room is?" I asked the maid politely as I approached her. Her face flushed in embarrassment when I uttered out the word 'miss', but she responds anyway.
"U.. um... it's right this way sir." Her soft shy voice shuttered out, walking up ahead of me, but, wow, she is quite fast, I had to walk quickly to keep up with her.
I had no idea what to say to her, the whole way to my room was completely silent. My eyes just kept their gaze upon her, keeping an eye on her every step in case she makes a turn or if I get left behind. Her brown hair flowing with the slight breeze caused by her fast pace.
Suddenly, she made a sudden stop and I came to a halt, nearly bumping into her...
I take a few steps back and stare up at the ornately decorated door before us. "Thank you once again miss," I thank her profusely for her help.
Her emerald eyes glance to the side, face flustered. "Please don't refer to me as miss," She informed. "At the moment your status is much higher than mine. Anyways, if you need anything, you can ask any of the maids or butlers."
"Thank for the information, and I hope you sleep well miss..." I stopped, trying to remember her name, only to realize that I didn't know it to begin with.
Her eyes go wide in noticing that I have no clue what her name is. "O-oh! I'm sorry. I didn't introduce myself earlier," she fumbled. "Elizabeth, my name is Elizabeth."
"Well then Elizabeth, my name is Jaxon. It was nice to meet you. Goodnight,"
She gave me a soft smile and slightly bowed, as my hand wrapped around the handle to the door. Elizabeth turned around to leave while I walked into my room, shutting the door behind me. My eyes roamed around, noticing how large it is and the elegant decor it had. A bed, appearing to be king-size, in the middle of the room against the wall, a storage cabinet, and a drawer for clothes. There was also a wooden table with a candle to light up the room.
I walked over to the bed and collapsed on it. I was exhausted, but in spite of that, I began to plan my future in this unfamiliar world I have found myself in.
Author's Note: sorry for the delay, shad and I have been busy but we finally got the chapter out, hope to get another one out soon.
