Prologue
A child crying broke the silence. Crying. Crying. It was all that you could hear for miles. This child's name was Ella. And beside her lay her dying mother who had an incurable disease - one that none knew of. But one day, her mother started losing hair. And now on this day she died. All mourned the beautiful woman whose hair was black as a croaking raven, her skin like that of a tree of ebony.
Ella's father was weeping, hands on his face trying to hide his pain. But he knew what he needed to do, he needed to take care of his precious daughter Ella.
"Cinderella! Cinderella!"
"Oh, please don't call me that."
"But why not? All you ever do is sleep in the ashes."
It had been years since Ella's mother had died. Ella was almost an exact replica of her mother - she shared the same complexion, the same hair. The only difference was Ella had gray eyes just like her father. At least she thought they were like her father's, she hadn't seen him in so long. He was always out drinking and when she did see him she would close her eyes. His breath was always heavy with alcohol as his voice roared at her. She was fearful of him. What happened to her sweet and caring father, the one who would tuck her in with a kiss on the forehead? No, she knew what made him like this. Not what, who. It was her wicked stepmother. The one who would smack her the face when she didn't do what she was told. The one who made her cry herself to sleep. The one who would yell at her, shattering her, leaving her empty shell. She was the reason her father became like this.
"Ella not speak to your sisters like that your isn't even worthy of them"
"Why should I listen to not my real mother?" then suddenly she felt the knuckles of her stepmother's hand back fisted her across the face. Her face stinging from the pain she wanted to cry but she wouldn't she wouldn't show any weakness.
"Speak to me like that again and you'll never say a word again."
"I dare you, " she was slapped across the face again she could taste blood in her mouth and a loose tooth.
"Go to your chimney."
And so Cinderella hobbled off into the entrance to the chimney.
"I expect you to sweep the floors later."
