Chapter 14

Katie watched as her girlfriend stumbled over herself, opening her mouth to say something. But no words could be formed. How do you respond when a loved one lives on as if everything is okay? Letting out a sigh the jaguar walked back to class deep in thought. Well as deep as she could before the lick started to burn. She let out a low hiss of pain, determined to get through it without anyone noticing. What more could she do when her girlfriend wouldn't let her in?

Reaching the door Katie pulled the hood of her hoodie closer to her neck to hopefully hide the cause of the pain. Walking in, several kids' heads snapped up at her but she paid them no mind instead she made a b-line for her seat. She just wanted to make clear of everything. Especially, with how Kiera was acting. As she was about to put her head down on the desk, a hand held her chin. Making her look up at a brown-eyed boy with short blond hair.

"Well, don't you just look helpless." The boy made himself level with the jaguar. "What is an animal like you doing with a wolf neckless? Don't you know how risky that is if your body doesn't accept the spirit?" Two canines grazed his bottom lip, his pupil's thin slits.

Grabbing his hand Katie twisted it until he was wincing in pain. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about but whatever it is it needs to stop."

"So, you've been kept in the dark about all of this. You poor soul." He grinned before dissolving and teleporting to his seat.

"Kept in the dark?" She spoke under her breath, what in the world could he mean by that? Before she had any more time to ponder the question her head erupted with pain as it felt like someone was taking a jackhammer to it. Placing both hands on her head, she sat there her head just aching and had no way to stop it.

The teacher walked in and begun to take attendance. Katie barely paid any attention as the teacher spook the more pain it caused to her head.

"Cole Stone?"

"Present."

"Katie Tatka?" She wanted to say here but when she opened her mouth the pain became ten times worse. Please shut up! The order fell on deaf ears as the words never escaped her clenched teeth.

"Katie Tatka? Are you here?"

"Shut. Up." A deep growl escaped her mouth.

"Excuse me?" The teacher looked at Katie sternly. "That better have been not what I think it was."

"I'm sorry but my head is killing me. Can I go to the main office?" The older woman looked at her in disbelief but sighed through her nose.

"Fine, but have one of the others help you down there."

"I don't need anyone I can make it on my own." Attempting to stand up, she caught herself on her desk.

"I have to disagree Miss Tatka. Jefferson go with her to the office." The boy with the blond hair looked up his brown eyes full of mischief.

"Alright. Let's go." Jefferson walked over and wrapped his arm around her waist. The smell of vampire hitting her hard. The scent alone wanted to make her gag, smelling of rotten eggs and overheated garbage. Katie wanted to pull away but was locked in his grip of steel.

Kiera was in her truck driving, lost in her own thoughts when a blur ran in front of her. Having been so far gone in her head she hadn't even noticed who or what it was. There was a soft thud against the hood. Woken up from her daydream, Kiera got out of the car to investigate. Looking around there was a pile of smoking black dust.

Kiera bent down to get a better look and when she did there was a knife pressed to her neck, the blade shimmering with evil intent. She lightly lifted her arms but as she did so the blade became more accustomed with her throat.

"I'd be careful if I were you. Wouldn't want to get your blood everywhere." The voice was dripping with the desire to finish her off. Kiera relaxed and put her arms down again, the intent to kill still shone in her eyes. "What is it that you're after? Revenge? Or is this a way of confessing love?" The knife drew her blood and it stopped Kiera's remarks.

"Smartass till the end I see. But that's not the reason I'm here." A boot was placed between her shoulder blades as she was pressed down on the pavement. The blade away from her throat Kiera could turn around and look at her attacker. He was a vampire but he had a mask on, the only thing she could make was their deep green eyes.

"Oh, are you sure that it wasn't to tell me you need a shower? Like seriously you reek." Kiera's face was then slammed into the asphalt. "Fine, I guess that was too much to ask for." There was a smirk in her words even though she was being buried in the asphalt beneath her.

"The reason I'm here Angel is that I have a message for you from the higher-ups."

"And I have a date with the King of the underground."

"Just shut the fuck up. But we know about the half-breed that you want to create. And once she has begun to shift there is no hope of her staying on your side." He bent down close to her ear. "I personally will be the one to change her. You sweet, sweet angel. How could you ever lead a pack like the Phantom's?" He gave a small chuckle. Kiera was furious she could feel the flames building up in her body. Starting from the necklace and spreading to her heart. Her mind becoming clouded with anger and rage; the two joining to become one.

"You want to fucking dance? Let's dance."
