Chapter 12

Better get to cleaning I guess. The guests had left and there was so much to be done. With the upcoming war between the two-species time was of the essence. Walking back into the kitchen and flipping on the lights, she stopped. It was clean?

"That's weird I could have sworn that we left the kitchen a mess." Looking around, Kiera noticed the washcloth was discolored with the blue and pink paint. "It must have been Jazz. That sweetheart. Always fixing my messes." Turning off the lights, Kiera walked down the steps into the basement to start preparing for the long-awaited night that was fast approaching.

"Kiera, what are you doing?" The voice came from behind her. Without turning, Kiera spoke, "I am preparing for the event that will happen two nights from now. Why?" Kiera was pressed against the wall. Her attacker placing a hand on both sides of her head, unable to escape. The brick behind her was coarse, unforgiving and it was digging into the base of her neck.

"Ryan, what the hell?" It came out more as a statement rather than a question.

"Why not? Also, because I won't let you throw away your potential." He leaned down and kissed her. Bringing a swift hand up Kiera slapped the Beta. She was no one's fucking toy.

"What my love life is, is no concern to you. I don't want you and you have no right to decide what my life is or isn't Beta. Now get out of my face." The Beta had backed off while Kiera viscously wiped her mouth with her sleeve. No sub gender other than Alpha could refuse an Alpha command. With special cases though it came down to which Alpha had more respect and power. Kiera, being the second Alpha of her siblings, tended to have a better control over the pack and how they reacted when she used her alpha voice.

"That won't stop me from trying." Ryan put a hand on his reddened cheek. A sly smirk barely visible in the dim lighting. "You will be mine and there is nothing you can do about it." The Alpha pulled her lips back into a snarl.

"The more you make threats like that, the more likely it is that you'll be banished from the pack." Flaming orbs of fire met with icy cold blue pools. "You couldn't get rid of me that easily and you know it. I know just about everything there is to know about this pack. Just how broken it is and how weak your father is to continue running it. It needs an Alpha. An Al-" Kiera grabbed his face and pulled it close. "You say one more thing about my father not being an Alpha I will tear out your eyes, shove them down your throat and then you can watch me tear out your stomach and make a mess of your body."

Pushing past the Beta, Kiera went back to what she was doing. Picking up shackles and clamping them shut to make sure they held together well. The steel was cold to the touch but there was something about it that was unsettling. Whether it be what it meant or that they would soon hold the love of her life in such a state of vulnerability. The thought made her want to clench her teeth and yell at the world it wasn't fair.

Turning werewolf for the first time is always the most painful. The most heart-wrenching. The most heartbreaking. And there was nothing she could do to stop it or make it better. If she could she would take the pain for herself over and over just so it would be easier for the person who went through it. But this time it was personal. Kiera was sending her in blind, having no idea what the world of hurt she was in for.

Before Keira could think any more about it she unlocked the shackle and let it drop to the ground. Wanting no more than to get out of the basement the scent of blood becoming overwhelming. All she wanted to do was run and hide and hope that the nightmare would never come. But that was wishful thinking the symptoms would start after she received her necklace. Katie has less than two days of feeling like herself. And it's all my fault.

Running back to the main level, Kiera nearly toppled over Jazz who looked concerned for her. Catching her in his arms and asking, "Kiera are you alright? Your face is pale and you're breathing heavy." Giving her a once over checking for any serious wounds and a fever. "You seem to be okay but that doesn't explain your pale face."

"I..." Kiera's words disintegrated in her throat. What could she say? The thought of her loved one going through the torture of transforming was sending her into a panic attack? No. She had to pull through if not for herself it was for KitKat. The one who was going to go through the experience. Besides, it hadn't even happened yet. So, there's a chance everything thing would be painless.

"Hey, whatever it is, just know that I'm always here for you. I'm not going anywhere." Kiera pushed away from him and ran up to her room, shutting and locking the door behind her. Then promptly sinking to the floor and curling into a ball.

"Nothing bad has happened yet you're okay. It'll be like any other transformation. Maroon's was rough but she got through it just fine. Everything will be okay. All you have to do is breathe." A soft knock at the door brought Kiera out of her train of thought as the doorknob jiggled; unable to open the locked door.

"Kiera, open the door, please. I have something for you." Kiera sat curled up, not wanting to move but her body had other plans. It was like it was operating on its own, ignoring the signals her brain was sending out. Unlocking the door with a soft click the door swung open, with standing before her was her younger brother with a small wooden box in his hands.

"Katie's necklace is done, I figured that you would want to have it." A hand came to rest over Kiera's mouth as the dark, glossy box was given to her. "I, thank you." Kiera muffled around her hand and then closed the door on Kyle's face before he could ask what was wrong.

Setting the box on her desk, Kiera stripped off her shirt and slid underneath her blue and green comforter and allowed her eyes to fall shut with sleep.

Katie was on her way home with Maroon until she became overcome with emotion and almost doubled over.

"Katie, what's wrong?" Bending down next to the jaguar unsure of what was going on. The mark on her neck was burning like hell. As what had caused it she had no idea but other than her significant other was upset about something. The feeling was so full of sorrow that Katie felt like weeping.

"I'm not sure what it is but the lick that Kiera gave me is burning and I can tell that she's upset about something but I'm not sure as to what." The pain in her neck started to dull and Katie was finally able to stand up straight once again.

"Weird, I've never felt anything like that. You might have to ask her about it tomorrow." Maroon continued their walk but put an arm around Katie's shoulders to keep her stable and to be able to catch her if she fell again. They stayed like that until Maroon had walked the jaguar to her doorstep with no further instances. When separating they waved goodbye and Maroon groped KitKat at least once before she made her own way home.

Katie made her way downstairs and went to her bathroom taking a closer look at the red mark that was left after Kiera had licked her. It was a weird feeling being able to experience another animal's emotion that wasn't her own. She was going to have to ask Kiera what was wrong tomorrow at school but for now, it was too much to process so flipping off the light, she made her way to her room. All of this could wait until tomorrow.
