Chapter 10

"W-war? Why? Who? When?" The blood that had run in Kiera's veins seemed to have chilled by several degrees.

"Vampires." A deep growl rose in his chest, his eyes hard and cold. Flames of rage dance behind them.

"But we've kept them at bay for so long why have they started to rebel now?" Kiera glanced at her father hoping that it was going to be something that can be stopped rather quickly.

"I don't believe that they're working alone. There's no way that they would have started this by themselves not after what had happened last time."

"So not something that could be ended shortly."

"No." His answer stiff, void of any emotion.

"Well at least that explains what happened to me at school today." It was a simple mutter but it seemed to have caught her father's attention.

"What happened?" His voice dropped a little hinting at a growl. Kiera only sighed at his response.

"Nothing I couldn't handle, but one of the vampires at school went completely nuts. At first I thought I had provoked it with a comment I had made, but now knowing this it makes sense." She crossed her arms and placed a finger upon her lips.

"I'll be looking to you to start training the younger members of the pack, I am really hoping that this can be resolved peacefully and not with blood shed." He sighed deeply as he watched the young pack members play around in the clearing.

"Of course we start tomorrow after school... unless you want me to skip and run a check around our territory."

"No I want you to get yourself an education and have a chance at choosing what you want to do with your life instead of having to take on the stress of all of this." He raised his arms for emphasis.

"Ha that's funny. That's all I imagine doing with my life. You're going to pass one day and the Vampires aren't going to stop just because you're gone. This pack will live on through me and my mate, regardless if you approve of this or not."

"Kiera..." The alpha looked at his daughter with tired, old eyes. "That's not fair to you. You need to figure out that life is an adventure and you need to live it a little. Do something that'll a normal teen would do that doesn't involve tactics or strategies. You're only at the age of seventeen you graduate high school in a few months and-"

"And I'll be taking over the pack a few years later at the age of 21. If you decide to step down by then..."

"Keira," He sighed heavily with annoyance. "That's not going to happen I would never push my responsibility onto you until I'm ready to retire but until I'm ready to pass on. But I'm digressing from my original point, training. Make sure it happens." A final curt nod and he walks back inside without a second of hesitation.

Kiera lingered a moment then turned her attention to the group again. The fate of the pack lied in their paws, so to say. Shaking her head she lightly jogged over to them, a small smile falling on her lips.

"Hey orders from Chief," they all looked over. "We gotta start going into training soon, with the way things are turning we're gonna need to start being prepared for just about everything." The pups looked up in excitement, their eyes gleaming.

"Does this mean that we get to do all the cool stuff you do!?" They turned to each other bouncing up and down with the other holding onto their arms.

"I'm gonna give you a maybe. You are still too young to be dealing with a battle this extreme." She placed a hand on each of their heads. "Although you will be taught simple and effective moves for self defense only." A softened glare was given to the pair, they looked a little a disappointed though. "If it makes you feel any better I may have set something up for you inside." Their heads perked right back up at that.

"I bet it's a new lego set!"

"No way it's gotta be a new video game!" Taking off from under Keira's hands they race inside to find out what it is.

"So what did you really get them?" The fox piped up her voice knowing that it wasn't either of what the twins had hoped for.

"Bowls of ice cream with something special in the middle," Not even a moment later loud groans had left the house.

"Kiera what did you put in the center of those bowls?"
