"No one is dressed useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another."
~Charles Dickens

–•–•–•–

The two both walked outside in hoods. Both with shadows covering their faces. Both almost looking like the same person from far away. It was also dark, which didn't aid anything.

The funny thing was that neither of them realized this. Raven put her hand on the latch of the door but Dick hopped on his motorcycle.

"Were taking your motocycle?"

"Why not?"

"Good point." Without a care Raven gets on the back of the bike and Dick hands her his extra helmet.

"Is this ok?" He asks.

"What? Oh yeah. It's fine. I don't mind." She replies.

"Alright then." Dick revved up the engine and pulled out of the driveway.

"You ever been on a motorcycle?" Dick asks through the mic he put in his helmet.

"You added a mic to the helmets?"

"Makes it easier for conversation." He gives her a hidden smirk.

"To answer your question, yes, I have. Multiple times" she pauses. "And I know how to drive one." She adds.

"Really?"

"Don't sound so suprised. Maybe I'll race you later just to prove a point."

Dick rolled his eyes.

"What are you going to do with Brion?" Dick asks just a little bit curious.

"I'm an empath, Dick. I can always feel what others are feeling. Remorse, joy, happiness, pain. If I heal someone, I take away that pain. It's like a 6th sense. It is a 6th sense."

"I've done things like this before. Brought people out of comas, healed life threatening illnesses and injuries. It absorb it and it goes from being their peoblem to mine. I've learned not to let others feelings and emotions affect me or my mind. I don't know what happened to him, but for Terra, I guess it's the least I can do." She said this as if she was unsure if she should go through with it. She let a long sigh escape her mouth forgetting that Dick could hear her.

"Everything alright?" He asked.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just...tired." Dick didn't buy it. But he figured he'd leave her alone. She had already gone through so much that day. No point in getting into her own personal decisions. This is a pretty bold move for her to make to begin with.

Raven knew this. She questioned so many things about her choice. She was confident that she could do this...

If she knew him that is.

That's the problem.

She's only done this with people she's known or has been close with. Usually she wouldn't consider doing this for a complete stranger. And she planned to keep her relationship with him that way. Whoever he was, she didn't want to find out any other way than her powers doing it inadvertently.

Question is, will it even work? Much of her power is derived from her emotions. She has no emotional connection to this boy who she's going to heal. How can she do this?

Because I promised her. I don't go back on my promises. No matter who it is. That's how.

It didn't take them too long to get to the hospital after that. They parked in the the garage, Dick paid the toll really quickly and they headed in.

They checked in easily and got the room number. L030. 4th floor.

Dick checked each individual plaque next to the doors, but Raven hardly glanced.

She was extremely uncomfortable.

There was so much suffering there. She sensed it all. It made her uneasy. She tensed up and balled her hands into tight fists. In places with so much unhappiness she could almost never relax.

She didn't just sense the cancer and broken bones either. She sensed the dead lurking around the last hospital room they were in. Regardless of why, she still felt their presence.

Some had died of something that couldn't have been fixed, something they were to stubborn to let be fixed, and sheer negligence.

She heard a young child start to cry and her heart skipped a beat. Then it picked up its pace to the point where she could hear it.

Then she saw it out of the corner of her eye.

L030. The door was closed.

Dick was ready to go in and almost did so, until he noticed his companion's face.

"Raven? Are you ok?" He puts a hand on her shoulder and she looks at it. She soon goes back to the door.

"This room...there is so much hatred inside. Malice, neglect..."

"Right. Empathy. Will you be alright?" She closed her eyes and swallowed.

"Yes." And in the end he followed her into the room. "Hello?"

"Come in." It was Terra's voice. "Nice to see you again." Her eyes narrowed. "Why'd you bring him?"

"He's come to give you something." Dick pulls out a wad of 100's. A large one at that. Terra's eyes were just shy of basketballs.

"What?"

"My father mailed me some money from Gotham. Turns out it's a good part of what you father gambled away. I figured I'd be the one to give it back to you since your dad is too egotistical and mine is too...well...Bruce."

"Yeah no kidding. Thanks Richy." She took the money from him slowly just in case it was all a cruel joke.

"It's Dick."

"I know." She smiled.

"Terra? Were you fighting with someone a moment ago?"

"About 20 minutes ago, his nurse was in here. I had a beef with her, some things were said, long story short she left me in here alone. How did you know?"

"I felt it." Terra could see how uncomfortable she was. "There's a lot of negative energy in this room. More than just for one fight." Terra cuts her eyes to the floor.

"So how is this going to work?" She asks changing the subject.

"Just watch ok?" Raven replies, her voice starting to waver. "Where's your brother?"

"Beind the curtain." She points to the pulled curtain on the far side of the room.

Raven pulls it back and reveals a boy with orange hair and a truckload of tubes coming from his body in several different places. He looks like he's being experimented on, but he's in the hospital.

She was shocked. Suprised and confused, that her eyes too, began to be just shy of basketballs.

"I know him. He was on the train I was on to come here."

"Wait...you're who he was talking to? I was with him. He just wandered off to go talk with someone and I didn't see their face."

"Small world I guess." Dick added.

Well this was going to be a little easier. She knew him. They had talked about how crappy the world can be sometimes. Funny how she met him again in a crappy situation.

"You said he was in a coma?" She asked once more. Terra nodded. Raven gingerly places her hand on his forehead and mumbles some incoherent, arcane language under her breath. Soon his head starts to glow and Raven's chakra starts to pulse red.

It was over just as quickly as it started. Her heavy breathing wasn't a good sign.

"I'm done." Dick leans nonchalantly against the wall closest to the door and watched from afar. As for Terra, she leans over the bed waiting for something to happen. Raven leaves the bedside and walks over to Dick.

"Let's go." She whispered. "I'm tired of hearing the screams of the damned." She mysteriously slips out of the room. Dick followed her obviously confused.

And just after they left, Brion opened his eyes.

*Knock knock knock*

"Come in. It's not locked."

"Hey, I just– Where are you?" The room appeared to be completely empty.

Then, a head peaked out from the closet.

"In here." He laughed at her odd and childish behavior.

"Raven, why are you in the closet?" He opened the door and helped her up from the floor. The clothes she wore out of the house were on the floor and she was in her PJ's again. This time it was a purple cami and black spandex shorts.

"I don't know Gar. It's the first thing that came to mind."

"I just came in to check up on you. You ran in here pretty quickly after you two got back." He said with a hand on her shoulder. She looked at it and wrapped her hands slowly around it as she spoke.

"Yeah. It's just... I don't like places like hospitals."

"Why?" She told Gar what she had told Dick earlier. "Oh. So you pretty much felt everything?"

She nods. "It's hard being an empath in a place like that. Only place worse would be hell. And there was so much hate in the room Terra was in. She said that she had a fight...but that much couldn't have constituted just one fight. It had to be multiple..."

"I get it. Your brain kinda went on overload right? Just wanted to get away from it? Must be hard to deal with that every day."

"I manage. But I usually try to avoid places like that. When I was little if I ever went into some kind of hospital I'd get a migraine and pass out."

"You live and you learn huh? It's ok. You're home now and all of us are in a good mood."

"I know." She sighs and sits on the bed, letting go of his hand.

I wonder what's wrong? She seems distracted.

Knowing Raven, he knew he probably shouldn't ask but he genuinely wanted to know what was going on. Either that or he was 'genuinley curious '.

At this point the silence had gone on long enough for it to be awkward, and Raven looked like she had zoned out.

"Hey Gar?" She stared with her glassy gaze still focused to the floor. "Do you think I should have done it? Helped Terra I mean?"

"Nobody told you to. It was your choice."

"Technically, you put me up to it in the first place." Bright red cheeks.

"Well...yeah...but–"

"But I could have said no. I could have just thanked her and left." She looked distressed, yet her gaze was still fixed on the floor. Gar sat on the bed next to her and finally, he brought her out of her trance.

"Is it because of all that negative stuff?"

"The more I think about it, the more I feel like she doesn't deserve it. Her brother was going to die Gar. Whatever put him into that state was a dangerous, toxic chemical. I know her life is kind of horrible, but she lets it out on other people that have nothing to do with it. At least I deal with my problems." Raven started to speak faster. What was he supposed to do? She was stressed about this, clearly. How was he supposed to help? He had to take her mind off if itwk

"And I know that she treats everyone badly. I thought her apology was real, but now I feel like she was manipulating me. She probably has a lot of experience. But if she was I would know it too... She was just–" her ramblings were silenced by Gar's lips connecting with hers. After a time he let go and a small laugh came from her along with it. "I guess I needed that."

"Besides, I wanted to pay you back from before." He said with a grin.

"Sorry. I guess I'm just dwelling too much on the past." She apologies.

"It's alright Rae. I do it all the time."

"What's done is done. I don't want to kill anyone else." Her head lowered. As soon as he saw it Gar picked her head right back up.

"Hey. Don't worry about that. They're trapped down there and nobody can find the body because it's locked. And we still like you for who you are. Not for what you did." Raven smiled, then the smile morphed into a smirk.

"Since when did you get so smart?"

"Probably after I started hanging out with you. You can learn a few things just by listening to you talk." Gar claimed.

"Really now? I don't think that's true." She got up from the bed and gazed out the window longingly. Within 5 minutes, once again, she zoned out, shifting her attention from Gar completely.

He took this opportunity to have some fun with her. He came up behind her and poked her in her sides. She jumped and Gar wrapped his arms around her waist and threw themselves onto the bed.

"Gar!" She struggled to get out of his grip and this is when he pinned her to the bed.

"You know what I think? I think you're too hard on yourself. You did what you did, and you're safe now. Why don't you just relax for once?" She stared at him, her eyes locked into his.

He' so close...

She's so close...

Should I...

Should I...

Kiss him again?

Kiss her again?

They smiled at eachother.
