"Hello?" I said into the phone.

"Heyy, how is my favourite daughter in the whole world?" My dad's voice boomed through the phone, enthusiastic as always. Oh right, he calls us with a private number, totally forgot.

"I'm your only daughter in the whole world dad" I pointed out, rolling my eyes, meanwhile I was secretly happy to talk to him.

"Doesn't stop you from being my favourite, princess" he replied.

"Come on, dad, what am I? Ten?" I asked, dragging my hand down my face.

"But honey, you used to love when I called you that" he replied "You said it made you feel pretty"

I cringed at that. I cannot remember saying that, I swear, I cross my heart and hope to marry Ryan Reynolds if I'm lying.

"Yeah, that was until my life turned upside down, until I didn't know who I was anymore, until I lost contact with all my friends and didn't have any until now except that one time in Minnesota, when an emo guy wanted to be my friend, but that was only because he thought I was a goth. The worst part is he left when he found out I wasn't!" I rambled, panting now.

"I know, I know honey, I'm sorry. You have every right to be mad at me so let it all out. I can't change what has happened so the least I can do is keep us alive" he said.

"Then why don't you just give them what they want?" I asked, tired now.

"I can't, I lost it" he said.

"What?! How could you lose something that important to VPR?!" I exclaimed, standing up from my bed now.

"VPR?" he asked, sounding just as confused as I was when mom said it.

"Oh, mom says that's what we're calling them now" I informed him.

"Huh, trust your mom to -" He started to say.

"Dad!" I exclaimed, cutting him off.

"Sorry, sorry, um I was going to give the drive to Ben at the office, some days before we moved, he's closer to the authorities so he'd be able to hand it over to them but somehow, I lost it" he explained.

"I cannot believe this. Then why are we still moving?" I asked, pacing "I mean, we could just tell them we don't have it anymore right?"

"Uh, princess, I don't think their boss would want to sit and have tea with me, while I tell him that I lost very important info that could ruin him" he replied "he wouldn't even believe me and even if he did, he'd kill me and move on to find it"

"Who would? Even I don't believe you. So what do we do now?" I asked.

"You just enjoy your lives while I do something" he replied.

"It's not much of an enjoyment when that little voice in the back of your head is telling you that you won't stay here much longer" I replied, as I went back to seat down.

"Don't be so pessimistic, Susan" he said "Now come on, tell me about that rich boy and your new friends" Ugh, mom!!

"First off, I'm Daniella Robinson now dad, remember, you gave me that name?" I said, an amused smile on my face.

"Oh silly me, I keep mixing it all up, my ID card is the one thing that helps me remember who I'm supposed to be at the moment" he replied "never mind that and tell me about your friends, I'd like to know"

"Fine" I sighed and proceeded to tell him about my friends and even my enemies. We had a long talk and I must admit, I missed him. I really did.

Tyler came in just as I was about to drop the call.

"Dani, you promised to play with me today" he said, reminding me that as soon as I dropped the call, I was going to have to enter into a world of fake guns and weapons. Lucky me.

"I'm coming Ty" I replied.

"Oh my, is that my big boy? I wanna say hi" my dad said.

"Tyler, dad wants to talk to you" I said putting the call on speaker.

"Hello daddy" Tyler greeted, a wide smile on his face.

"Heya, big guy" dad replied "how are you?"

"I'm fine daddy. I miss you" he replied, a frown appearing on his face.

"Awww, I miss you too Ty. It's good to know that at least one of my children miss me" he said, making Tyler giggle. That earned him an eye roll, which he couldn't see from me but I'm sure he could already imagine it. "I promise we'd see each other again soon, okay?"

"Okay daddy" he replied "Now hang up, Dani is going to play with me now"

"Oh really? Dani is such a lovely big sister" he commented.

"Bye dad" I interrupted.

"Bye my babies, love you" he replied.

"Love you too daddy" Tyler replied and I cut the line.

"Come on" Tyler said as he pulled me off my bed and straight to his room.

We played with his toy soldiers and moved on to Lego bricks, for the next hour and I thought it would go on forever but my mom's call to come down for lunch, saved me.

After my lunch, I checked my phone to see I had gotten another series of texts and missed calls from Blake. I felt really bad but I knew I was going to have to ignore him a little longer, at least until I couldn't anymore.

The next day at church was boring as usual at first, until later in the morning, when the service was done. My mom had dropped her ring somewhere around where she sat during the service, so she told me to help her check around there. I was in the middle of my search when someone walked up to me.

"Are you looking for this?" The voice said. I looked up to see a little boy, my mom's ring in his hand.

"Yeah, that's my mom's" I replied, collecting the ring.

"Sorry, it rolled under my seat during the service and I started to play with it" he replied, looking at his feet as he shuffled them.

"That's okay" I replied, a smile slipping onto my lips at his innocence "What's your name?"

"Mason Parker" he replied, a smile lighting up his face, making his brown skin glow even more. Awwn.

"Mace!" A voice called before I could reply. I looked up to see another boy, jogging up to us, his black curls bouncing around "It's time to go, come on"

"But -" Mace started just as the boy noticed me.

"Oh hey, I'm sorry for whatever trouble he was causing" the older boy said, flashing me a bright smile.

"No he wasn't causing any trouble" I replied "he actually came to return something I lost"

"Really?" He asked, looking at Mason who was grinning widely.

"Yeah" I replied.

"Well, that's a first. I'm André Parker by the way" he replied, stretching his hand for a handshake "Mason's brother"

"Daniella, Daniella Robinson" I replied, taking his hands and shook it gently.

"Hey, you kinda look familiar" he suddenly said "Do you go to Arlington?"

"Yeah, do you?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm kinda new. My family and I just moved here last week, but I think I've seen you around school" he replied.

"Oh, that explains" I said, a small smile playing on my lips. Just then I felt my phone vibrate in my purse. I checked to see my mum was calling.

"Uh, I gotta go now, bye" I said to them as I ruffled Mason's hair.

"Bye bye" he replied, waving at me.

"Yeah, see you around" André replied and we went our separate ways.

"Here" I said, handing my mum her ring on getting to her.

"Oh you found it, thank God" she replied, collecting it and keeping it in her purse "what took you so long by the way, was it that hard to find?"

"No, not really" I replied and proceeded to tell her what happened on our way to the car.

I dreaded going to school the next day because I knew what was awaiting me or rather who, but that didn't stop me from waking up early and getting ready for school the next morning.
