23 | I-Island

Eria

After packing my necessities for a 3-day-2-nights trip, I left for Haneda airport with Todoroki early in the morning.

It was not my first trip going overseas so I knew what to do prior boarding a plane. Todoroki had never left Japan for his entire life due to his upbringing so he followed my instructions all the way, skewing me with loads of questions. His eyes gleamed of anticipation as he marveled at the large airport and its facilities. Whenever I caught him admiring the place like a little kid, I couldn't help but smile.

"Stop staring at me. I've just never seen these before," Todoroki exclaimed as pink dusted his cheeks.

How adorable.

Todoroki said I didn't need to pay for any expenses because he swiped them with his father's card, since Endeavour was still trying to impress his son.

On the plane, I scrolled through the in-flight movies while Todoroki fiddled with the touch-screen monitor. Every time he found something new, he would form a tiny 'wow' with his mouth. I refrained from chuckling at him.

Lunch on board was served with the choice of fried soba with chicken or gyudon (Japanese beef bowl). Todoroki was deeply saddened by the lack of cold soba.

"Next time, I'll ask them serve cold soba," he vowed, eating his fried soba meal with gritted teeth.

"Yeah when you're rich and famous and sit in First Class,' I retorted.

Lunch made me drowsy so I fell asleep for the rest of the trip. When I woke up, the plane was about to land and my head was on Todoroki's shoulder.

That was a very useful wake-up call as I quickly straightened myself and tried to hide my blushing face.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I muttered.

"You seemed peaceful. I didn't want to wake you. And I got drowsy too."

My face was still burning and I quickly looked out of the plane's window only to be awed by the magnificent scene below. The gigantic and perfectly circular island floated on the clear blue sea. It was the embodiment of advanced science and technology.

After we landed, a robot took us to our hotel. It was two bus stops from the airport. Along the way, I could hardly contain my gleefulness as I peered at things that I had never seen before, which was literally everything in this artificial island. From its tall skyscrapers to its fully automatic robots and transportations, everything screamed magnificence.

Our hotel was 20 stories tall, which was a good place to catch the view of the island from above. Inside, it was grand and luxurious, with large sparkling chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the decorations gleamed gold.

"How may I help you?" asked the concierge.

I nudged Todoroki, who fished out the reservation receipt from his bag.

"Ah. I forgot to tell you. We're staying in the same room," said Todoroki bluntly.

Wait, whaaaaaaaaaaat?

Sleeping with him in the same room was already making me jittery. All sorts of ridiculous imaginations pervaded my mind. But the most important question was—

"Is it a twin bed or a double?!"

Todoroki paused to regurgitate my question. "......there's a difference?"

TODOROKI!

"There's a difference. If it is a double, my mom will kill me and my father will kill you. If it's a twin, we'll live."

Todoroki slightly shook his head. "I still don't understand."

"It's a twin room, miss," the concierge interjected.

"Thank you!" I held back my tears of gratitude.

Todoroki still looked fazed.

"A twin room means there are two single beds, while a double room means it only has a king or queen-sized bed," the concierge kindly explained.

A faint blush appeared on Todoroki's surprised face. "Oh."

This idiot.

"Don't worry, if we do get a double room, you'll sleep on the floor," I teased.

"You should be the one sleeping on the floor. I'm paying for everything," he replied.

***

Our room was situated on the 15th floor. It was tiny but looked luxurious and comfortable. The bathroom was equipped with glass panels instead of walls, which would be a pain in the ass when we want to bathe. I pounced onto the soft bed next to the window and relaxed my nerves.

"We'll rest awhile and then go out for a walk, kay?" I suggested.

"Okay," said Todoroki as he too lied down on the bed, indulging himself in its softness. "I didn't know hotels had such nice beds. Though I'd prefer a futon."

Eventually, I drifted into sleep and when I opened my groggy eyes an hour later, Todoroki was standing in front of the mirror, clad in his hero costume.

"Get up. Let's go for a walk outside," Todoroki suggested.

"Why in our hero costumes?" I asked, my brain was still slightly malfunctioning.

"Because we have to present ourselves as heroes in the public."

"We're tourists, not heroes," I emphasized and reluctantly took out my hero costume. I still haven't alter it yet because of my wings breaking through my costume every time of an emergency. "Don't look," I hissed, directing him away from the completely transparent bathroom.

After changing, we walked around the large island, though it was too much ground for us to cover. People were buzzing around everywhere we go. Heroes strolled around and occasionally letting the public take photos of them.

"That seems like fun," I said, pointing to a board. It wrote 'Who Can Beat Our Robots in the Fastest Time? BREAK THE RECORD!'

Todoroki nodded. He joined in the fray and within seconds, froze every robot that was located on the large artificial mountain. Abruptly, a loud voice shouted angrily, accompanied by familiar explosions and soon, an irritated Bakugou landed in front of Todoroki.

"HALF-AND-HALF! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE?!" Bakugou roared, unpleased Todoroki beat his record.

"I got the invitation from my old man," replied Todoroki calmly.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, skeptical.

Bloody red eyes glared at me. "I came here because I won that stupid Sports Festival! Why are you here?!"

"He invited me." I pointed at Todoroki.

Somehow, for unknown reasons, it irked Bakugou even more. He would have challenged Todoroki to fight if Kirishima hadn't show up and calm the tense situation with his bubbly personality.

"Todoroki! Takasaki! You guys are here too? I got invited by Bakugou!" explained Kirishima. "The others are here too!"

I looked up. Standing by the audience seats were Midoriya, Ochako, Iida, Yaomomo, Jirou and a blonde.

"What is this?! A class reunion?! Why is everyone here?!" I gasped, for weird circumstances brought us all here in the same place.

"Ah. Midoriya's here too?" muttered Todoroki, ignoring the fuming Bakugou.

So all he can think of is Midoriya. Pfft. I'm HIS best friend! My cheeks puffed with jealousy.

"Stop arguing! You are tarnishing U.A's name!" commanded Iida as he rushed in like a rocket.

"And you're here because?" I asked.

"I'm here because I'm my brother's brother," Iida replied proudly.

"I'm my mother's daughter but I don't see me getting invited," I grunted.

"Eria!" Ochako called as she and the others walked toward us. "Nice seeing you here!"

"Hey guys. And..." I stared at the blonde. She was quite tall, slim, and was an authentic Caucasian beauty.

"So these are your friends too, Midoriya?" said the blonde. "I'm Melissa."

How did Midoriya even know such a pretty girl? I bet Ochako's jealous.

"Everyone, are you all attending the reception dinner tonight? You all must be punctual! We will gather at the location at 6.30pm sharp tonight! Go get ready!" The overly hyped Iida commanded.

I looked at my watch. It was less than 3 hours till 6. "I'm going to walk around a little more then go back. I just saw crepes. I need them." I nudged Todoroki. "You coming?"

"Of course. You'll get lost without me," he replied.

"I think it's the other way round, pal." We waved our classmates goodbye, ate some delicious crepes made by robots and headed back to our room, with less than 2 hours to spare.

Todoroki wanted to bathe first in the transparent box called 'bathroom'. "I won't look. There's nothing to look at," I lied, resisting the urge to take a peek at his amazingly gorgeous body.

He raised his eyebrow. "Takasaki. There's a curtain." He touched a button on a wall near the bathroom and a curtain rolled down to cover the glass wall.

What the—

"Why didn't you tell me when I changed just now?" I shouted, the flames of embarrassment burning my face red hot.

"I thought you knew," he said with a blank face.

"You're smart, considering this is the first time you sleep in a hotel," I gritted my teeth.

A tiny smirk found its way onto his face. "You're perverted, considering you're a girl."

"I'm not perverted!" I retorted back, the regret of saying stupid things gnawed within me.

"But you mentioned my bod—"

"SHUT UP AND LET ME BATHE IN QUIET BEFORE I DECIDE TO MURDER YOU," I hissed and rushed into the bathroom even though it was supposed to be Todoroki's turn. I thought I would forget all this after the bath.

Apparently, it didn't. The scene replayed in my mind for the long 10 minutes, reminding me of my stupidity.

I hate you, puberty. I hate you, love. I hate you, Takasaki. And I hate you the most, Todoroki.

I was still in a rotten mood when I stepped out of the bathroom, clad in my lilac purple off-shoulder dress.

"You look nice."

The words sapped the air out of my lungs.

Todoroki was staring at me when I turned around. The moment our eyes met, I felt like my face was going to explode.

"T-thanks..." I stuttered. "You should err... hurry up..."

After Todoroki went to bathe, I buried my burning face into a pillow. I completely regret staying in the same room with Todoroki. He was driving me crazy. I might not able to live to see tomorrow.

A ruckus drew my attention and I lifted my head. Todoroki stepped out of the bathroom, wearing only pants and exposing his chiseled abs.

I'm dead.

"Ah I'm sorry. I forgot to take my shirt in with me," he said sheepishly. A faint blush gradually crept onto his face. He quickly covered himself with a towel like a shy maiden. "Stop staring at me, you pervert."

I threw my pillow in his face. "That is supposed to be my line!"

A soft chuckle came out from his throat and he returned to the bathroom.

"I am so moving out of this room right now," I muttered. The heat in my face refused to ebb.

When Todoroki stepped out of the bathroom again, he was finally properly dressed in a dark blue shirt with greyish white pants. He stood in front of the mirror and deftly tied his maroon striped tie. Finally, he put on his coat and became a dashing young man.

Fuck, too dashing.

"Aren't you fixing your hair?" Todoroki abruptly asked.

Biting my lip, I combed my hair into my usual ponytail, gathered my stuff and get ready to leave. I didn't want to look at my friend, for it would tempt me to stare too long like an idiot.

We walked side by side to the reception dinner, neither of us speaking. I occasionally sneaked glances at him, thinking of how could someone so perfect be walking by my side and be my best friend. Even though I said I wasn't into romance, but the more I spend time with Todoroki, the more I realised my dream of not falling for him was really nothing but a dream.

"Todoroki, Takasaki! You are punctual!" boomed Iida when we entered a skyscraper that hosted the dinner. Midoriya, Kaminari and Mineta were already there, although I didn't know the latter two were here until now. Clad in waiters' outfits, the perverted duo swarmed me with their 'lustful' eyes.

"TAKASAKI! YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!" Mineta shrieked.

"Such a gorgeous girl, Eria~" cooed Kaminari.

I sighed. "Thanks?"

Todoroki's eyebrows slightly creased. For a second there, I thought I saw him glaring daggers at the two but a second later, he returned to his blank facial expression.

Before I could figure out what I saw, Ochako hurriedly entered through the entrance. She donned a pink frilly off-shoulder dress, which matched her bubbly personality.

"YES!" Mineta and Kaminari shrieked in the background as I complimented Ochako. "You're so cute and pretty."

"Aww stop complimenting me! You're gorgeous too!" Ochako's arm flailed in the air as she tried to cover her face from embarrassment. "I got this dress from Yaomomo."

The moment her name was mentioned, the beautiful ladylike Yaoyorozu Momo stepped in, clad in a lemon yellow dress. Jirou Kyouka hid behind her friend sheepishly, though she dressed quite nicely in a pink frilled dress.

"YESSSSSS!" The perverted duo's screams went wild.

I sighed at the two, while glancing over at Todoroki. The boy stared at Yaomomo with slightly dilated eyes. Even though his face was still blank, I didn't like how he stared at her.

Jealousy was gnawing me from within as I realized he was staring at her with possible affection.

I clenched my fists, resisting the urge of leaving the place. Ochako touched my arm, as if she was trying to soothe me.

I really hated myself for acting like this. I should be at least glad that Todoroki might have found someone he liked but jealousy got the best of me. Feeling my entire mood for the night had gone down the drain, I took Ochako by the arm and dragged my heavy legs towards the reception dinner, leaving my best friend behind.

Ochako chuckled. "What happens to 'I don't care romance'?"

I playfully punched her. "Don't tell me you don't feel the same for Midoriya and Melissa back there."

Instantly, Ochako let out a long sigh. "......a little."

We both sighed and slumped our shoulders in defeat.

Ochako swallowed before she spoke. "You know, Eria, I might be wrong but...... I think Todoroki may not even like Yaomomo. They're not that close. But, I think you and him are—"

Alarms resonated in the air, startling everyone in the lobby. The windows and the main entrance were shut tight by steel rollers as the speakers blared of a suspected bomb emergency.

"There's no reception," said Todoroki as he checked his phone.

"Why don't we just head to the ballroom? All Might's there," suggested Midoriya.

Everyone looked much relieved when All Might's name was mentioned, as if it was an amulet of safety. However, my instincts were warning me something smelled fishy.

Please don't tell me it's villains again. I don't want to meet them thrice in the same semester.

I didn't voice out my concerns as we proceeded to the ballroom, which was locked from the inside. Then, Melissa led us to a higher level, where there was an overhead view of the ballroom. There were sketchy people shuffling around in the ballroom, holding guns while the citizens cowered in fear and the heroes tied up, including All Might.

I hate being right!

Using Jirou's quirk, All Might silently told us the villains had hacked the island's security system and held everyone on the island hostage. It was not an optimistic situation. Before the villains realised anything, we gathered at a stairwell nearby to discuss our options. At least, neither of us were panicking.

After a thorough discussion among us, we decided to avoid direct confrontation with the villains and head to the top floor to deactivate the security system. We climbed countless flights of stairs to reach the 200th floor. took out my high heels and climbed bare-footed, while internally cursing my inability to summon my wings for the occasion.

I could have flown to the 200th floor if my quirk wasn't this lousy.

By the time we reached the 80th floor, our presence was noticed by the villains and we were forced to run across the floor before we were closed in by the large steel walls that loomed down from the ceiling. We arrived at a large open space, filled with a plethora of plants and flowers.

"Someone's coming," Jirou warned and we hid behind a dense bush.

Two sketchy adults stepped out from an elevator in the center of the room. We held our breath in and stayed as silent as we could.

"What are you kids doing here?"

I activated my quirk, preparing to pounce.

"Sorry, we got lost!" replied a familiar voice. I peeked through the leaves and found Kirishima and Bakugou standing there.

What are those two idiots doing?!

The villains did not buy their excuses and attacked Kirishima, but a large ice wall froze the villains and protected him from the attack. Kirishima and Bakugou were still in a daze until Todoroki explained briefly that villains had taken over the tower.

"All of you, leave. We'll handle this," said Todoroki as he conjured an ice tower that sent the rest of his classmates high in the air to reach an overhead bridge.

"Todoroki!" Yaoyaorozu called from above.

"Don't worry, we'll catch up," he replied to calm her jittery nerves.

Placing much trust in the boy, Yaoyorozu nodded in return.

On the other hand, jealousy started to rear its ugly head within me as I jumped down from the elevated ice and onto the ground, then proceeded to karate-chop Todoroki's exposed head (gently of course).

Todoroki creased his eyebrows as he looked at me while rubbing his head. "What was that for? And why are you down here?"

"I slipped and fell."

He continued to look at me incredulously. "They'd be safer with you."

"They have Midoriya."

As if Midoriya was a sound reason to convince him, Todoroki finally nodded in agreement.

Urgh, this boy.

It took no less than a minute for the villains to free themselves from the ice. The scrawny thin one had weird web-like palms while the large one suddenly grew into an enormous beast like the Hulk.

"Takasaki, why are you here?" asked an irritated Bakugou. His eyes scanned me from top to toe, then his face twisted into slight disgust. "What the hell are you wearing?"

"It's a dress," I replied.

"You're going to fight in that?"

"I can kick these villains' ass and yours while wearing these. You want to try?"

Grumpily, Bakugou whipped his head away while grumbling something incoherent.

Did my ears deceive me, or did I just hear him compliment me?

My train of thoughts was interrupted by Kirishima's shouts as he lurched out to protect Bakugou from the incoming attack. The poor boy was sent hurling towards a wall, though luckily unharmed because of his hardening quirk.

Slightly fuming with anger, I threw my high heels at the enormous man with all my might, and it stabbed right into his right arm. Blood gushed out as he screamed in pain. I threw the other one at him again, who dodged this time. The flying lethal high heels crashed into the wall next to Kirishima, which scared the hell out of him.

"Sorry!" I shouted back and lurched at the enormous man after Bakugou launched multiple explosions at him. I punched him in the gut but he managed to swat me away. I crashed into a bush, which irked me even more.

I lurched at the enormous man again, this time aiming for his feet and crushing it with my full strength. While the man jumped in pain, Bakugou landed his ultimate move at him, finally defeating the villain.

Abruptly, the scrawny villain launched a long-range attack at Bakugou, causing him to nearly lose his entire left arm. Luckily, only his left sleeve was torn away. I immediately stepped in front of him to protect him.

"What the hell is this?" the villain asked, looking at his palm. It was covered with tiny droplets. Apparently his quirk was hollowing out any space he wanted.

A satisfied smirk grew on Bakugou's face. "That's my sweat. It's nitroglycerin-like."

Catching the hint, Todoroki released fire at the villain, causing him to detonate into a spectacle of flames and smoke. With the two villains defeated, I punched through all the walls in our way as we proceeded to the upper levels.

Luckily, we made it just in time to save Ochako from the onslaught of lethal robots. She was using her quirk to send Midoriya and Melissa to the higher levels but as a strong wind blew past, the floating duo strayed away from their path.

Todoroki removed his coat and released scorching flames at a large fan that Bakugou moved with his explosions to aim at Midoriya. The flames generated a strong gust of air that blew the floating duo onto a wall, and Midoriya made a hole on the wall to get through.

I picked up Todoroki's coat while kicking the robots away easily like a bunch of tin cans. Accidentally, I took a whiff of his coat, which was filled with his scent—a harmonious blend of a cold arctic wind and a warm campfire. To me, it smelled sweet and dangerously addictive.

I hurriedly pried my nose from his coat, while looking around to make sure no one saw me sniffing it.

"We make a great team, aren't we?" Kirishima happily commented.

"No freaking way!" retorted Bakugou angrily. After crushing robots to vent his anger, he glanced at me and clicked his tongue unpleasantly. Then, he stormed towards me, pulled out the coat from my arms and threw it on my face.

"Bakugou!" I shouted at his rudeness.

"Cover yourself up. You're wearing a goddamn dress."

My cheeks heated up.

After freezing the rest of the robots, Todoroki came to stand between me and Bakugou. He stared at me; his mouth opened to say something but was distracted by a piercing glare from Bakugou. The two of them stared at each other silently as an awkward tension loomed.

It was hard to decipher their thoughts from their faces. Todoroki was usually impassive while Bakugou was grumpy. Slowly, their stare-down evolved into glares.

I would have smacked them in the heads for forgetting the current task at hand if not for cheery Kirishima's intervention.

Watching all this, Ochako stifled a laugh. I raised an eyebrow.

"It looks like they're fighting for something," she explained, giving me a sly look.

I pinched her chubby cheeks and she yelped. "No," I denied and hurriedly took the lead. "Hurry up! We still have to help Midoriya."

"Oh, Midoriya," Todoroki muttered, enchanted by the mention of his name.

Bakugou clicked his tongue unpleasantly. "Fucking Deku."

***

We reconvened with the others on the way to the roof. A large mechanical monster—the last boss was fighting against All Might and Midoriya. The duo looked exhausted but they had not given up just yet. When nearly all hope was lost, the power duo held on to their determination and launched their most powerful punch at the last boss. At the same time, the sun rose from the horizon, celebrating their victory.

The long night was finally over.

"Finally I could get some sleep," I said, deactivating my quirk. Using it too long exhausted me. I unconsciously glanced at Todoroki, who was slightly smirking at Bakugou. Bakugou was caught smiling but returned to his grumpiness in a second.

Tsundere much.

Helicopters took us down to the ground safely, but All Might had disappeared before we could check on his wellbeing. I hoped he was alright.

"So, we're all going back to our rooms for a good night's sleep, right?" Ochako could barely open her eyes. It was the same situation for all of us. As the adrenaline in our bodies subsided, fatigue took over.

"Get a good night's rest! We will need more energy later!" Iida was riled up as usual. It seemed fatigue barely affected him.

"It's morning, and why do we even need energy for later?" yawned Kaminari.

"I'm starving......" groaned Mineta as he clutched his stomach. "I think the breakfast buffet is open now."

A few of us had our ears perked up upon the mention of food. "As saviors of the island, they should at least treat us to a meal," Kirishima grumbled. I nodded.

"All Might's treating us to a barbeque dinner tonight," said Midoriya after checking his phone.

"YES FOOD!"

"Oi, demon girl, where are you staying?" Bakugou questioned, or rather, demanded.

Before I could speak, Todoroki had answered for me. "She's staying with me in the same room."

Bakugou exploded angrily. "The fuck?!"

"You two are sleeping in the same room?" gasped Jirou, blushing.

"But shouldn't you sleep in different rooms? Unless..." Yaomomo blushed furiously.

The largest pervert in class was turned on. "ON THE SAME BED TOO?!"

"Damn it! If only I have Todoroki's looks," Kaminari regretted.

The cacophony around me turned into annoying buzzing as they reached my ears. The only important for me now was sleep. My mind was too fuzzy to think of anything else, especially the consequences of the current situation.

"Why didn't you fucking get another room?" someone shouted.

"Because it's expensive," someone replied.

"You're too young to live in the same room!" someone boomed. "It's against the laws!"

"Really?" someone questioned.

"DID YOU TWO..." said a voice with a heavy panting. "DO IT?"

"Do what?"

"MINETA! BEHAVE!"

"Tell me all the details!"

"Are you two dating now?"

"Damn you, half-and-half!"

While the cacophony continued on, I was already dragging my legs to the hotel, which was fortunately close by. At least my mind was not too fuzzy to not recognize the place I was staying in.

Heavy footsteps chased up to me. "Don't leave me behind," said Todoroki, exasperated. Fatigue was apparent in his sluggish movements. "I don't understand why are they making such a big issue over us sleeping in the same room."

Sleep sleep sleep.

I nodded without ever understanding his words.

After a tiresome journey to reach our room, I collapsed onto my bed, snuggled myself under the warm covers, ignored how awful I smelled and fell into deep slumber. When I woke up later, breakfast buffet was long over. It was already afternoon and my stomach growled like a beast.

I stretched my limbs and glanced over at Todoroki. Under the cover of his thick blanket, I couldn't see his face but from the steady rise and fall of his breathing, I knew he was at least alive.

The cold waters of the shower refreshed me instantly. I was completely renewed. The only thing left was refill my stomach. Todoroki was still sleeping soundly and I hesitated to wake him.

I gently lifted the blanket and peeked. Todoroki's face was peaceful in his sleep. I stared at him until I realised it was too long of a stare. With heat in my cheeks, I shook his shoulder to wake him. His eyes fluttered open and he sat up, yawning. His hair was a complete mess—red and white strands of his hair crossed over his hairline. But somehow, he looked handsome.

Todoroki's groggy eyes spotted me and he rubbed his eyes. He was still wearing the formal suit from yesterday, where his left sleeve was burnt away by his flames.

"Morning......" Todoroki muttered.

"Looks like you're not much of a morning person," I said. "Hurry up. I'm hungry."

We took to the streets, searching for food. After relishing ourselves with pizza at the nearest store we could find, Iida summoned us for the barbeque dinner All Might prepared for us. The pro hero looked energetic with his wide grin, despite having battered by a long fight 12 hours ago. Other classmates who were also here in the island joined us and were full of regret for not joining the battle.

"So~" Ashido's cheeky voice sent chills down my spine. "I've heard you're sleeping in the same room with Todoroki?"

I sighed.

"Are you two in that deep of a relationship already?" she pursued.

I pinched her cheeks. "No comments."

"See! I told you guys! There's something between them!" Hagakure exclaimed excitedly.

I huffed. "There's nothing between us—"

Hagakure shoved her phone in my face. Its screen displayed a photo which made me choked.

It was the time on the plane where I slept on Todoroki's shoulder and he slept on my head, leaning against each other like a real couple.

"WHERE DID YOU GET THIS?!"

The two girls snickered. "Coincidentally, we were on the same plane."

"Or was it just destiny?" sang Ashido.

I should have just slept till I leave this place.

Their excitement drew attention from the others who were busy eating.

"OMG they are so cute!"

"I knew it they are a couple."

"You two are still too young to date!"

"DID YOU...... DO IT?!"

"Shut up, Mineta."

I wished all of this was just a nightmare.

"Todoroki! Do you want to keep this photo as a memento? I can send it to you!" Ashido proposed a very bad idea.

Unsuspecting, the boy nodded. "Sure."

TODOROKI!

"Fucking people can't even let me eat in peace," Bakugou grumbled in a corner while Kirishima coaxed him with more meat, which he gladly chowed down like a beast.

"Eat, kids! To you content! There's plenty more where it comes from!" All Might boomed as he brought in more meat.

Thus, the trip to I-Island ended.

**

Kinda sloppy ending for the chapter because I couldn't think of better ways to end it :(
