Ninth Chapter
Brooke kept on walking until she reached her car. The moment her driver saw her, he went inside the car and started it. Brooke went in as well and placed all of her things aside. She’s too excited to go home. She wants to know the news about Agnes already.
The moment her driver parked her car in their garage, she went out at once, leaving all of her things inside the car. She went inside their house and looked for her mother. But to her dismay, Lacey is nowhere to be found. Because of that, Brooke just got her things in her car and went straight to her room.
She changed her clothes and started doing all the school works that she had missed since her long absence. After doing some, she suddenly remembered what happened to her a while ago. She remembered the guy that she bumped into. She can’t help but think who that guy really was.
“Ugh. Who is he? His face is somewhat familiar, but I can’t remember his name. I can’t even remember where I met him before, if I met him already. This is insane! Ugh.” Brooke said while covering her face with one of her books.
Suddenly, she realized something. So she removed the book from her face, stood up and went to the mini-library in her room. She looked at her yearbooks and checked every face and name in there. After looking at 7 yearbooks, she stopped at a specific page that caught her attention.
“So it’s him? What is he doing in my school anyway?” Brooke’s thoughts were disturbed when she heard someone calling her.
She knew it was Lacey that was calling her so she immediately put back all the yearbooks back in the shelf and went downstairs. She looked for Lacey around the house and she saw her in the kitchen. Brooke then sat down on one of the high stools and observed what Lacey is doing.
“Hey, young lady. Why are you looking at me like that?” Lacey asked.
“You know the reason Mom.”
“Do I?” Lacey answered back and she laughed. She continued preparing all the stuff that are scattered on the counter of their kitchen.
“Mom, what’s the baking for? You know that Dad and I don’t like sweets that much. Is this a special day or what?”
“Well, let’s say it is special. Happy?”
“No. I want the complete story Mom. And you promised me that you’ll tell me all the details about Agnes after school!”
“Yes. I know I promised but let’s just wait after the baking is over, okay?”
“But-”
“No more buts young lady. I’ll continue baking and you continue doing your school works, unless you want to help me with the baking?” Lacey told Brooke, half-ordering and half-asking.
“Nah. You know how much I hate baking right? I’ll just do my school works. Call me when you’re done baking. Promise me Mom!”
“Alright. I promise. Happy?” Brooke just nodded and went upstairs already.
Like what she promised, she continued doing her school works. After doing majority of those, she opened her laptop and checked on her online blog and other accounts. She was surprised to see a post from Luke. She immediately replied at him.
From: Luke Nichols
Hey. I hope you could remember me already.
To: Luke Nichols
Yeah. Yeah. I remember you already. Happy?
From: Luke Nichols
Nah. Remembering is not enough. Why don’t we meet up somewhere?
To: Luke Nichols
What’s the meet-up for?
Brooke replied even if she is irritated already. She’s not close with this Luke guy anymore and so she doesn’t want to meet him as much as possible.
From: Luke Nichols
I know you know the reason for it. >:D
To: Luke Nichols
You dumb-as$! Do you really think I would ask you if I know the reason huh?
Brooke is really pissed off. As much as possible, she wants to control her anger but Luke is pushing her to her limits.
From: Luke Nichols
Woah! So you’re becoming fierce now eh? Well, I like it that way DEAR. Do I really need to remind you of all the things that happened before?
Upon reading this, Brooke’s hands trembled. She doesn’t know what to do anymore. She forgot everything that happened in the past. She moved on and tried living a normal and peaceful life.
“Why did he come back now? Why? I want my life to be back to the old happy days. Why does he need to come back and ruin it again?” Brooke said while tears started rolling down her eyes.
From: Luke Nichols
Hey! What’s wrong? Why didn’t you reply anymore? Are your knees shaking already? Haha! This is just the beginning. Remember, in this game, I’m the one who wins! Remember that!
Luke Mitchells has signed off.
Before Brooke could reply, it was too late. Now, she’s really scared. She ran away from the haunted past that she had with Luke. She’s not prepared for another misfortune. She’s not prepared for another dilemma.
“Brooke! I’m done cooking! Come here now!” Lacey shouted.
Brooke then tried to calm herself down. She washed her face, trying hard to hide the fact that she cried. She turned off her laptop. She fixed all her things and went down.
“Sit down now. Let’s wait for your dad and then we should start eating.” Lacey told Brooke.
Brooke remained silent until she noticed something odd in the set-up of their dining table. At first, she thought it was really there a long time ago. But she immediately removed that thought away and asked Lacey.
“Mom, why is there an extra dining set here?” Brooke said while pointing to the dining set beside hers.
“You’ll know the reason why later.”
After a few minutes, George arrived. He sat down on the chair and didn’t start eating like the usual. Brooke noticed this too and so he asked George.
“Dad, why aren’t we eating yet?”
“Because we’re still waiting for someone.”
“Who?”
“You’ll know.” George said while bringing out his cellular phone.
“George Mitchell speaking.”
“You’re there already? Alright. I’ll ask Lacey to meet you there.” George hanged up and then talked to Lacey.
“They are waiting for you outside. Go ahead and meet them.”
“Alright. Brooke, I want you to close your eyes and do not open it until I tell you to do so. Understood?”
“Yes Mom.” Brooke said while closing her eyes.
After a few minutes, Lacey returned with someone. The both of them kept their mouths shut while approaching Brooke. The moment they reached the empty space beside Brooke, Lacey talked.
“You may now open your eyes Brooke.”
“Surprise!” Lacey, George and Agnes said simultaneously. Yes. Agnes was the surprise.
“Agnes! You’re here!” Brooke exclaimed and hugged Agnes. They are like long lost sisters that met after ten years or so.
“Yes. I am here. Guess what? I’ll be staying here with you! Isn’t that amazing?”
“Yes. It’s amazing. Gosh. You just made my day. Thanks Mom and Dad.”
“You’re welcome Brooke. We knew you’d be happy if Agnes would stay here for a while so I asked her mom if we could be the ones who would take care of her while they are abroad. Luckily, they agreed and Agnes wanted to stay here as well.”
Brooke hugged Agnes again and after a while, they started eating. After eating, they all went to their garden to look at the stars. They talked there about anything. After an hour, they all felt sleepy and so they decided to go to their rooms and sleep.
Brooke and Agnes walked hand in hand and that cause Lacey and George to smile. Brooke led Agnes to her room and sang her a lullaby. Before leaving the room, Brooke kissed Agnes on the forehead and said something.
“Agnes, I hope while you’re here, I’ll find the will and the strength to fight. I’m willing to be engaged in this fight as long as you’re here with me. Thank you for everything. I love you Agnes.” After saying those words, Brooke left and went to her own room.
