Chapter 7
Katrina's POV –
It had been a week since the incident. I was treated like royalty the whole time by the guys. Everyone was helping out. Rain was my personal chef and waiter. It was lucky he was a good cook, I enjoyed all the food he made for me. As well as cooking for me, I know he had started cooking for the other guys too as some had started crashing here at the gym.
Dean was busy in his office, sorting out paperwork and other boring things like that to do with the gym. Since I was injured, the times for the kids to come over to the gym, stated on the flyer, had to be postponed. At least that gave us time to set everything up. Daniel and Mike were working hard in setting up the gym and equipment, ready for when Blake started tomorrow. As well as that, a small area for the kids was set up in the space left over on one side of the gym. This included weights and other bits and pieces, which were suitable for the younger ones.
Blane, another one of the fighters who trained here, was surprisingly keeping the place clean and tidy, including the lockers and bathrooms. Blane was a big, silent guy. He had scars on his face and a body which made him look scary and intimidating. It didn't help that he didn't like to talk and communicated mainly with actions and grunting. What people were failing to see however, was how gentle he could be. He was always offering the scraps of food left over from meals to the stray dogs and cats in the alley way, as well as always keeping an eye on the kids when they were here.
I know the guys treated him as one of the family, but it was hard to watch as people from outside the gym would steer clear of him, as if he would hurt them just for walking on the same side of the road as him. And although he didn't speak, he would sit with me in my room, listening to my music with me. It was a comfort to have him there.
As I was thinking, I didn't realise Blane and Rain had both walked into my room. "Hello missy! We have a little surprise for you today!" Rain said, excitement in his voice. From behind Blane's back, a pair of crutches was presented. I gasped in shock and happiness. I knew the guys here didn't have petty cash to spend on things they didn't need, and even though I had gotten used to their kindness, I was still shocked when they surprised me with gifts.
Walking over to the bed, he lent them against the wall, as he helped me to swing my body around and put my feet on the floor. It didn't hurt much as I was dossed up on pain meds. With a little help from Blane and Rain, they propped the crutches under each arm and helped me to my feet. Standing beside me, they both stood ready to catch me if I started to fall as I took my first unsteady step forwards.
I felt a little unsteady, however I was moving. I was finally out of that god-damned bed! Leaving the room at a snail's pace, the guys directed me towards the little kitchen. Inside, the others started clapping for me as they saw me approach. On the small island, was a cake. "Congratulations Kitty Kat!" I heard from all around me. A wide smile was on my face as tears of happiness leaked from my eyes. Rain wiped them away, smiling down at me. With a gasp, I was swept off my feet and onto a nearby stool.
Blane was grinning at me from the shock of the unexpected action. I smiled back at him sweetly with a nod of thanx. With encouragement from the guys I cut the cake into small pieces for everyone. After my small 'Get Well Soon' party, I felt tired from all the excitement. Blane picked me up once again before taking me to my room and arranging me on my bed comfortably. Rain followed behind, carrying my crutches along with him. Propping them against my wall, they fed me my pain pills so I wouldn't hurt throughout the night, before kissing my forehead and leaving the room. It wasn't long before I drifted off to sleep.
Waking up the next day, I felt extremely groggy. It took a while for me to become mobile. Once I was, I spotted my crutches. I was determined to go to the bathroom on my own. Turning my body, I let my legs hang over the edge of the bed as I put the crutches under my arms. Doing this, I realised I then couldn't stand up. Putting one down, I used one crutch for stability and my other arm to push myself off of the bed.
Once I was finally standing on my own, I reached for the other crutch, before hobbling my way to the bathroom, being careful not to put any weight on the bad leg. By the time I had finished and left the bathroom, I was panting in exhaustion. This was harder than I thought it would be. Looking up, I saw a worried Rain rush to my side. "What was you thinking?! You could have got hurt!" He said to me harshly. With a wince I replied in a tired voice, "I just wanted to go to the bathroom... ON MY OWN. I thought I could do it no problem."
With a deep sigh, Rain lifted me while I carried my crutches. He brought me once again to the kitchen, sitting me down and preparing me food. "You can't push yourself too hard too fast Kat. I know you're bored silly, but you need to get better and the more you rest the quicker it will be." He said to me in a fatherly tone. I sighed at him knowingly.
To change the subject, I asked a question, "Rain, what time is Blake coming over today?" Rain looked at me with a smile before turning back around and concentrating on the eggs in front of him. "Blake will be coming in around 1:00 p.m. He'll be training you know, so try not to distract him with your boredom." He said with a smirk knowing me. I blushed red knowing I had done it to the other fighters at one time or another.
Looking at the clock, I saw it was now nearing 1:00 p.m. I saw the door open to the left of me as I sat watching Daniel and Blane spar in the ring. Blake walked through the door with a bag hanging from his shoulders. He walked over to Rain who was coaching from the side. They spoke for a little while, before Blake took off for the lockers. As he did so, he passed me giving me a smile. I smiled back at him before turning my attention back to the fighters.
It had been a few minutes since Blake went to get ready. As I saw him walk out of the locker room door, Daniel threw one last punch towards Blane. He missed as Blane ducked out of the way. With a responding jab, Daniel bent over trying to catch his breath. "Time!" Rain shouted to the two of them. With a shake of one another's hands, a sign of respect and friendship, they exited the ring. Blake walked up to Rain. "So, what's on the agenda for today coach?" He asked him, with a serious expression. Rain grunted and led him over to the weights.
For the next hour or so, that's where they trained as I watched Blake's muscles bunch and tense. He was really very fit for his age. I was starting to get bored with this, so called Blane over to help me out to the kitchen. Even though I had my crutches to help, I still got tired easily and was unsteady for longer walks. Setting me down, he looked at me inquisitively. I motioned to the coffee pot as he grunted back in acknowledgment. We sat there, nursing our drinks in comfortable silence. Just keeping one another company, something we did often with one another.
