Chapter 1

Melissa

~*~

Breathing in the fresh air, I smiled. I had been hauled up in the car for the past two hours as my dad drove us to our new home.

The bright yellow two story house I now stood in front of was too be my new home and I am excited.

My brothers and mother live here in this town, I hadn't seen them in years. We lost contact after my parents divorced, my mother moved to this town to get away from all the gossip and rumors in our old town.

I wasn't invited along for the ride, apparently I was too young and blah, blah, blah. In all honesty I think my mother just didn't want the girl she blames for her ruined marriage to tag along.

So I stayed with my father as he took on his new life, in our old town and it wasn't easy for me.

A shiver runs down my spine at the memories of what happened in my old town.

I frown at my own thoughts, I did not move to another town to think about the past. This was my new start, my happy ending and I'll be damned if I let what happened ruin it for me.

I look away from my new house and to the neighborhood, it was a good neighborhood. Our neighbors are supposed to be nice people but I'll believe that when I meet them.

Scanning the other houses I notice two boys sitting on the steps of the house across the street. I smirk, they look around my age, both had blond hair and where well built from what I can see and they both didn't look happy about their new neighbor.

"Maybe you should go over there and say hi" my dad says coming to stand next to me with a box in his hand.

We only had a couple of boxes with us as the moving truck was supposed to deliver the rest. They are late and are only expected to arrive on Monday, it being Friday today.

In other words I had a weekend of sleeping on the floor ahead of me, fun times.

"Nah. They look like they need a moment to adjust to our level of awesomeness" I stated smiling back at my father who snorted.

"They'll come around" my father smiles at me and I shrug.

I could understand the hostility, no one moves to the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the school year just because. But we did and that was suspicious.

I waved at them, smiling. A friendly gesture one they ignored.

Their breaking my heart here.

Turning away I stalked into the house to help my father unpack what little we had.

~~~
Lazing on the floor because we had no couch I contemplated the meaning of life.
Nah I'm kidding that shits to complicated for me, besides it was the wrong time of day. Everyone knows you contemplate the meaning of life at one A.M. not noon.
I was actually thinking of food, more importantly what I could eat. What can I say? some girls best friends are diamonds mines food.
The only problems is that I'm lazy and there's no food in the house so I needed to go outside and GET FOOD.
The horror.
My dad came downstairs and I pouted up at him "me hungry... Need food..." I mutter, my dad only shakes his head.
"You should go out and explore the town, get some food maybe make some friends" he says giving me his credit card.
"Can't we order something and stay In" I pout
"No can do kiddo, I have to go into work now to settle a few things with the new boss and won't be back until supper time" he gives me a sad smile.
Ah, work. My father is a workaholic, he was almost never home and when he was he was hauled up in his study.
It was why we didn't get along well before, after things happened he was forced to put work second and I guess now that we moved he was back to drowning his sorrow in work.
At least I had other family in this town.
I gave my father a reassuring smile before he left and then I was alone.
I despised being alone, because it was an opportunity for the bad memories and thoughts to worm their way to the forefront of my brain.
Groaning I got off the floor and grabbed my phone to head out. I would rather walk to a nice little cafe and have some cake with hot chocolate.
What can I say chocolate makes me feel better.
So I grab my keys and lock up the house before setting off on my walk.
~~~

Sitting in a small little coffee shop, I sipped my hot chocolate and smiled. It was peaceful here, the cafe itself had a homey feel with the bright colored walls and pot plants everywhere and the smell of freshly baked cake.

I just found my new favorite spot.

The owner was so nice when I walked in here, unlike the rest of the town who wouldn't stop staring at me like I killed their dogs.

The owner even gave me my cake free of charge when I told her I was new here like she is officially my favourite person in this town.

Smiling to myself I was brought out of my thoughts by Krystal's cafe doors opening.

I looked up to find my neighbors standing in the cafe with three boys that looked awfully familiar. They hadn't noticed me and I was glad as it gave me chance to check them out.

The two blond neighbors from earlier looked a lot hotter close up than from afar. Looking at them close up I could see the differences in their appearance.

One was taller with longer hair and green eyes
While the other was shorter, neatly cut hair and hazel eyes.

The three guys with them all had brunette hair, similar to mine and blue eyes all were fairly similar in height and I honestly could barely tell them apart. If it weren't for the varying blues of their eyes I would think I was drunk.

I frowned. They looked familiar to me but I couldn't place it.

Shrugging my shoulders I decide to ignore them. Picking up my hot chocolate I bring it to my lips and tip it back to taste the warm goodness that didn't come.

I frown at the empty cup.

I don't remember finishing the beverage.

I get up and head to the counter for another, bringing my empty plate with me so Krystal, the owner, didn't have to collect it herself I waited in line while the boys in front of me ordered.

"We will have the usual please Krystal" asked one of the brunettes.

Krystal smiles at the boys and goes to get their orders as they wait.

Krystal working to get their orders ready pauses to look at me
"Need a refill, Hun?"

I smile at the sweet middle aged lady "yes, please your hot chocolate is to die for"

The boys were all looking at me and I smile at them, looking at my neighbors my smile turns to a smirk "hey neighbors" I say cheerfully.

They don't reply, instead they flat out ignore me.

Well that's rude!

"Either you're all deaf or just straight up assholes, and since the probability of all of you being deaf is close to 0 I'm just gonna assume the latter" I huff.

I hate being ignored, its like the most disrespectful thing you can do to a person.

They all glared at me but I was past giving a shit, so I flip them off before turning my attention back to Krystal who was watching the scene with an amused smile.

"Your order is ready Jason" Krystal said to the boy who had ordered the drinks.

I froze in my spot and cursed under my breath. This was not how it was supposed to go.

You see Jason is my brother, the eldest one of the triplets. Which meant the other two where Jonathan And Jake.

Under any other circumstance I would be jumping for joy except my mom and brothers don't actually know me and dad moved here.

Dad was supposed to inform mom before we moved but he put off doing it because they hadn't parted in the best of ways. So he told me he would inform her before school started Monday.

Which left me in the position I'm in now. I had two options I could tell them it was me and hope they don't react badly or tell them later in which they would react badly because I didn't tell them who I was.

Deal with shit now or deal with shit later.

I decided to get the pleasantries out of the way now and let dad deal with the consequence "J-Jason? J- Jo ? Jake?" I say stepping closer to the boys.

Jason was the first to react when he narrowed his eyes at me and asked "how the fuck do you know our names?"

I blinked, of course they wouldn't recognize me after all I hadn't even recognized them.

I decided to raise my hands in surrender and throw dad under the bus "Dad was supposed to tell mom we were coming"

They looked confused and Jake asked who I was and I smiled at him

"Its me, Melissa, the annoying little sister you wished you didn't have but hopefully love anyways"

I watched in amusement as my brothers faces changed from anger to recognition.

I knew I was too awesome to forget.

"Lia? What are you doing here? Moms not going to be happy" Jake says

I freeze again, seriously? They hadn't seen me since I was 11, six years and all they care about is mom not being happy.

They didn't even ask how I've been.

Not like they cared, they didn't even come visit when I was in the hospital.

I straighten up, my face becoming blank as I stare at them.

"You haven't seen me in six years, six years where you have ignored my calls, my letters, my attempts at staying in contact and all you can say is mom won't be happy?" I ask incredulously. My face morphing into that of anger "well guess what? Fuck what mom thinks"

With that I turn around, pay Krystal and leave.

I had more reason to hate my mother than she did to hate me and I was going to let her know every single reason even if it rips my family further apart because I was done trying to fix relationships I had no part in tearing apart.
