Once things are done, you can never go back.
Aida's POV:
I walked quickly along the darkening streets of Shimane, wanting to get back to the orphanage before curfew. I didn't want to be late, it wasn't a pleasant experience the last time...
The lady who ran the orphanage was a selfish bitch who hated children. Even though I was twelve, almost thirteen, she still viewed me as a nuisance. I shoved my hands in the pockets of my hoodie and walked a little faster, not being able to see very far due to the rain.
I turned down an alleyway as the rain picked up, starting to run. Suddenly, I slipped in a puddle and fell to the ground, landing hard with my cheek on the concrete.
"U-ugghhh..." I moaned softly, feeling soreness spread through my joints. I pulled myself to my knees, feeling a spike of white-hot pain in my ankle as I gasped.
"AH- Ahh... I-I don't think I'm going anywhere..." I mumbled to myself, my mind clouded with pain.
Something caught my eye, glinting in a puddle of rainwater beside my head.
A strange necklace was glowing softly in the moonlight.
"Oh no..." I muttered as I realized what that meant. If the moon had come out, then that meant I took longer than I expected. It was already past curfew.
I looked at the necklace curiously. It was a pendant on a black chain. The pendant was a circle with an upside-down triangle inside of it.
The triangle was made of some strange clear crystal, and the circle was made of two snakes, on silver and one gold, entwined with quartz and cuprite roses.
I looked at it before reaching out and picking it up, holding it loosely in the palm of my hand.
"I wonder who this belongs to. Who would be careless enough to lose something as precious as this..?" I mused to myself, my pain partially forgotten.
It glowed softly in my hand.
"What the-" I whispered in shock, staring at the necklace. It was now floating above my palm!
"O-okay..." I said, shoving the necklace into my pocket. "I'll figure out this necklace later, right now I need to get back....home." Surprisingly, my ankle wasn't hurting as much anymore and I managed to stagger to my feet, using the wall to support myself.
I walked out of the alleyway, limping slowly. After a while I started to near the area where the orphanage was. It was strange, but I could almost swear I heard a faint whispering sound...
It was probably just the wind.
I started walking across the intersection to get to the other street.
Then I heard a horn blow and my blood ran cold.
There was a car coming towards me. I tried to run but...
I was frozen. My mind went completely blank.
The car was obviously speeding, it wouldn't be able to stop before it reached me.
And I just stood there, wide-eyed, unable to move.
And then it was upon me.
The driver hit the brakes, I raised my arms in front of my face as my eyes halfway closed, and then I was lifted into the air, agony spreading through my whole body.
I hit the ground, landing on my back with a sickening crack.
The driver rushed out of the car towards me.
My vision was blurring, everything seemed redish.
No, blood was dripping into my eyes. I couldn't feel anything anymore.
Blood? ...My blood?
Was I going to die here?
I wonder how Yashi's doing.
Life is so short...
And so full of surprises.
The driver leaned over me.
"Hey! HEY! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!! ARE YOU OKAY?!!" he yelled, his voice seemingly fading in and out as I lost the ability to process thoughts.
And then everything went dark as I ceased to exist.
