30. Someone has returned
After having discussion with Si-ri, Min-ho headed towards the well.
The forest was dense. He couldn't move without a plant touching him. On his way, he kept on filling his sight with the sheer denseness of the foliage. The sickly sweet aroma of wild flowers filled his nostrils. Luckily, this forest didn't have any dangerous animals like before. At present the same route was being used by traders.
Min-ho reached the place and checked out the well. The outer view of the well had turned green because of the moss. He quickly began to clean up the moss, bindweed from the well to make it look good. The famous quote written by the girl in respect of Lucian was visible now.
Min-ho proceeded towards the town to tell people about the well. On his way, his mind was full of thoughts. He was constantly thinking about how to cook a story of the old well that would sound convincing and appealing enough among people.
He chose one of the busiest routes from where people usually visit. He looked around once, took one wobbly step and pretended to fall into a swoon.
In no time, he started hearing the screaming of the crowd around him.
"Oh! Is that Min-ho? What happened to him? What's wrong with him?" They were blabbering to each other staring at collapsed Min-ho.
"Oh God! Give me some patience before I lose my cool to these dumb heads. It's my humble request to you blabbering morons and god of fools, kindly do something to wake me up. Instead of chit chatting like idiots!" Min-ho cursed them in his thoughts.
Suddenly he felt someone trying to wake him up by sprinkling water on his face. Min-ho mentally prepared himself to act well.
After one more splatter of water, Min-ho opened his eyes in alarm, shaking, panting in short urgent breaths, looked around suspiciously and paranoid as if something horrible had followed him. He gets up cautiously, shivering, rubs head and eyes and tries to fully awaken and come to his senses.
A gentleman from the crowd asked him, "Are you alright boy? How did you faint?"
"I was on my way while I came across the old wellspring. As I came closer to the well, I heard a ripple in water paired with a tranquil voice. The voice had such a magnetic effect on my eardrums that my legs moved towards the direction of the voice. I stood there in front of the well as if I had been charmed."
"The voice echoed that through the well was of Lu...Luci...Lucian." Min-ho said in a stuttering manner.
The name 'Lucian' caused an uproar among the crowd. A wave of suspense and confusion clouded on their faces, they were eager to hear the further story.
Min-ho continued.
Lucian said, "I am back. Go and tell people to restore their faith in Lucian again. I'll help people in distress. From now on every wish will come true but it will only come true when asked with a pure and sinless heart."
"These were his words I heard before the darkness consumed me completely. It was a surreal sensation," said Min-ho and lifted his eyes to look at the crowd but they were nowhere to be seen. As he turned back to look around, his sight unfolded lots of figures running to the well to make wishes.
Min-ho felt annoyed and said, "What a bunch of dumb heads."
He quickened his pace and asked them to kindly listen to the whole story only then their wishes will come true.
They all got silent and looked at Min-ho desperately to utter the whole story while scanning him with their wide open eyes.
"Lucian told me the method to make wishes. You need to jot down your wishes on a piece of paper and put them into a bottle. You need to come back every day to check your bottle. If you find your bottle empty, it would be an indication that your wishes have been read out by Lucian."
"Only one wish is allowed at a time. No one is allowed to visit the well after sunset. And most important thing, the day your wish will come true you compulsorily need to come to the well, light one candle and from all your heart bless your healer, bless the divine energy and thank him for making your desire come true," said Min-ho.
They all go back to their homes and share the whole chronicle to other people delightfully.
Min-ho felt relaxed and happy that his plan and acting actually worked.
Meanwhile Mi-sook had assigned her men to observe every Lord Yong move. The old man was under surveillance of Mi-sook and could not go to meet her daughter.
"In these circumstances I won't be able to see Si-ri. She must be tensed as we don't have much time and still need to look for a way or an idea to collect blessings. I have sent Nyang to meet Si-ri and to tell her how things are messed up here. I hope she will understand my condition because I don't want to risk her life. Mi-sook has already set her eagle eyes on me. She is waiting to catch my daughter like a ravenous vulture," Lord Yong thought to himself.
Abruptly he sees Nyang coming with some stuff. Mi-sook's men stopped him and checked the stuff.
"These are some medicines for my master. He is not well, you can check the bag," said Nyang. They released Nyang after checking his bag.
Nyang met Lord Yong. He was eager to hear about Si-ri.
"Master, I told Si-ri everything about both yours and Prince Jian's condition. She felt sad about Prince Jian's condition and even asked me to help him. I explained to her that there is no way he can be saved, she was devastated for being so helpless to not save her brother."
"As for your state, she asked you to not to take any stress as she has found a way. There is a boy named Min-ho, he is helping her," said Nyang.
"What... a boy?" Lord Yong gave him a perplexed look.
"Yes. She hesitantly shared this with me and asked you to not panic." Nyang narrated their story of how they met and became friends.
"How could I not get worried? How could she trust any random person? And what if he tried to harm her?" Lord Yong was angry at the revelations.
"Don't worry master, I'll investigate everything about that boy." Nyang took his dagger and went out to look for Min-ho while Lord Yong still couldn't accept Si-ri's idea of friendship with a boy. He was feeling restless and insecure.
As Nyang stepped into the market area, he encountered a bizarre news prevailing among the folk. They were talking about Lucian's well and Min-ho.
Hearing the name Min-ho, Nyang became suspicious and asked someone about the matter. He told everything about that event to Nyang.
Nyang headed to meet Min-ho after asking his address. He was feeling doubtful and a lot of questions choked his mind.
Min-ho was taking his afternoon nap while he felt a sharp dagger piercing his neck. He opened his eyes and saw a stranger. Before he could react or perform any action to protect himself, cold fingers grabbed Min-ho by his chin, jerked his head forward and looked at him with piercing eyes.
Min-ho pushed him with all his strength and asked him, "Who the hell are you?"
"I am Si-ri's brother," answered Nyang.
Min-ho was shocked and scanned Nyang. "Are you sure, you are her brother?" asked Min-ho while acting suspiciously.
"Why?" asked Nyang.
"Si-ri's brother can't be this ugly," said Min-ho, making a weird face and laughing at him.
Nyang clenched his fist and somehow swallowed his rage that was about to explode.
Min ho glanced over at Nyang's face, smouldering with rage underneath his stony expression and stopped laughing. "I was just kidding, brother," said Min ho suppressing his laugh.
"Tell me, who do you work for?" Nyang asked, grabbing him by his shirt.
"I don't work for anyone. I know you are being protective about your sister but trust me I won't harm her. I met her in an unexpected way and we eventually became friends, I know everything about her past and I'll carry her secret to my grave. If you still think I'm not trustworthy and deceiving Si-ri, it was I who gave her the idea of Lucian's well to collect blessings from people to break the curse," said Min-ho in an intense voice.
Nyang felt the tension and intensity in his tone. There was a great deal of emotions and truth behind his words.
"Alright, do what you can to help Si-ri, I'll help you too. As you know Lord Yong can't meet her that's why he is so anxious and stressed-out hoping for her wellbeing all the time," said Nyang.
"Don't worry; I'll take care of her." Min-ho assured him
Nyang proceeded to leave but suddenly stopped and said, "Don't forget that I am keeping my eyes on you" and vanished into the crowd.
Somewhere Nyang was relieved that Si-ri had someone beside him but he was still dubious about Min-ho.
