Chapter 14
Third-person POV
All the students were back at Hogwarts after the holiday. Draco had mastered the finding spell so he didn't read the last two books. He knew this spell would work. The first night he was back he snuck out of his dorm in the middle of the night.
"Things that have been lost or stolen from me. Show me the path of which you lay. Reappearium." Draco said with his wand out. A thin gold line shined on the floor. With every step Draco took it grew infront of him and disappeared behind him.
"I've done it." He smiled and continued to quietly follow the path.
The path led him all through the halls and up and down many staircases. So far he was lucky and hadn't been caught. The line finally went under a door. He slowly opened it and looked around. No one was in there that he could see. He had never been in this room before. He looked in all the closets, the desk, everywhere. The only thing was a mirror. There was no sign of Shelby anywhere! He kicked a desk in anger and stormed back to Slytherin Common room.
"Stupid spell. Doesn't know what it's doing. I probably dropped a quill or something and it rolled under this door." He muttered under his breath.
What he didn't know was that he was being watched. Harry Potter was sitting under his Invisibility Cloak.
"What is he doing?" Harry thought. Harry decided to follow him.
Draco stopped by the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room and sat against the cold wall. He looked at his wand and threw it in frustration, barely missing Harry's head. Draco blankly stared. Harry swore Draco could see him. Eventually they heard footsteps. It didn't phase Draco. He didn't care if he was caught.
"What are you doing in the halls after hours Mr. Malfoy?" A voice questioned.
"Nothing."
"I find that hard to believe."
"I tried Professor Snape. It didn't work." Draco sighed.
"Come with me." Snape said. Draco followed him. Harry tried to keep up but lost them. There were too many twist and turns and he was trying to stay a safe distance back. He decided to go back to Gryffindor Common Room.
Snape took Draco to his office.
"What did you do?" He questioned Draco.
"I learned that spell that leads you to the thing you lost or was taken from you."
"And what happened?"
"It took me to a random room. I searched the whole place. There was just a stupid mirror in there."
"I see. Go back to your dormitory. If you get caught say you were with me. Leave this to the adults Draco."
"Yes Professor." Draco said leaving.
Months went by with no sign of Shelby. Draco was convinced it was Potter and Harry was convinced it was Malfoy. They kept spying on each other, determined to figure out where she was. One night Ron, Harry, and Hermione went to Hagrid's hut. Draco decided to follow him. When he saw the trio going towards Hagrid's he quietly followed them. When they were inside he crept be the window and peered in. He couldn't really hear what they were saying but he could see very well. He saw Hagrid bring a huge egg to the table. Next thing he knew it was hatching! And what came out was unmistakable...a Norwegian Ridgeback. Draco's eyes went wide. They went even wider when Hagrid saw him and bolted towards him. He ran towards the castle quickly.
Harry looked out and saw Draco's mop of blond hair.
"He's following us now." Harry said to Ron and Hermione.
"What?" Hagrid asked.
"Harry is convinced Draco Malfoy is behind Shelby's disappearnce." Hermione explained.
"That's nonsense Harry." Hagrid told him.
"Would you like me to tell her what really bit you?" Draco teased Ron. Ron had to go to the hospital wing for his dragon bite and Draco came to make fun of him.
"Shut it Malfoy." Ron hissed.
"I'll just take this book. Watch you back Weasley." Draco said and picked up a random book.
Draco took the book to his dormitory. He threw it on his bed and a piece of parchment came out. Puzzled, Draco picked it up.
"Dear Ron,
How are you? Thanks for the letter — I'd be glad to take the Norwegian Ridgeback, but it won't be easy getting him here. I think the best thing will be to send him over with some friends of mine who are coming to visit me next week. Trouble is, they mustn't be seen carrying an illegal dragon. Could you get the Ridgeback up the tallest tower at midnight on Saturday? They can meet you there and take him away while it's still dark. Send me an answer as soon as possible.
Love, Charlie"
Draco smirked at his new information. If he could catch them doing this then he could get them expelled and possibly find out Shelby's whereabouts.
When the night came Draco waited. He heard someone coming and was sure it was them but he was very wrong. It was Professor McGonagall.
"Mr. Malfoy!" She grabbed his ear.
"You don't understand!" Draco said.
"Detention! And twenty points from Slytherin! Wandering around in the middle of the night, how dare you.."
"You don't understand, Professor. Harry Potter's coming — he's got a dragon!" He tried to explain.
"What utter rubbish! How dare you tell such lies! Come on — I shall see Professor Snape about you, Malfoy!"
Meanwhile, Ron and Harry were watching this happen with smiles on their faces.
"Malfoy's got detention. I coud sing!" Ron grinned,
"Don't." Harry warned him.
The plan was succesful. Charlie's friends took Norbit. Ron and Harry hadn't been caught.
"It's all over now." Ron sighed relieved.
"Yeah. Thankfully." Harry said.
"Well well well, we are in trouble." A voice said.
"Filch." Ron muttered.
"We left the cloak." Harry whispered
That night everyone suffered a great lose. Neville, Ron, Hermione, and Harry had detention and lost 150 points from Gryffindor. Draco also had detention and lost 20 points from Slytherin. Professor Snape also had some choice words for him when he said he had hoped to find some information on Shelby.
Harry, Draco, Hermione, and Neville had detention together.
"The forest? We can't go in there at night — there's all sorts of things in there — werewolves, I heard." Draco said in disbelief.
Will they make it out of the forest unharmed? What will they find?
