Part 15 - Perfect to Imperfect

ARNAV

I had been sitting inside my room for so long, honestly I dint have the guts to even go outside and face Khushi after what I had said to her earlier today.

It was also surprising for me, I never knew I felt that way for her until that moment, all my feelings just came out and I realized I had developed feelings for her, which was wrong, I mean she was my best friend's wife and even though he was cheating on her, I had no right to do anything of that sort.

I had walked towards the door over fifty times and tried to open it but I had no guts honestly, I stood near the door trying to gather enough courage to walk outside.

I felt terrible, I felt like I had turned out to be like my ex-wife, I had done something terrible, Shrey had trusted me, he left me here to take care his wife, not to fall for her!

I heard the sound of the door being unlocked and I rushed outside without thinking for a moment wondering what Khushi was up to, I saw her heading out while she dragged a suit case along.

"Where are you going?" I asked as I followed her, seriously what was this girl up to.

"I don't know, all I know is that I don't want to stay here for even one more minute, every time I look around this house, it reminds me of how much time Shrey and I have spent here, how much love we had put into building this home.

I can't stay here and watch it getting ruined, I don't have the strength to do that Arnav so please don't stop me from going, I'll go stay at one of my friend's place and when Shrey comes back I promise I'll talk to him and listen to what he has to say then take my decision but until then I have to go." She said with tears in her eyes.

I stared at her for a moment hoping I had any reason good enough to stop her from leaving but I knew she had to, and maybe right now that was the right thing to do.

"Okay but I'll come to drop you, please let me do that." I looked at her hoping she would agree, I dint want to leave her alone at all, not when she was going through so much.

"Fine, I'm heading to the parking lot, get the keys and lock the house." She said as she headed downstairs while I rushed back to the house to get the keys.

I locked the house in a hurry and headed straight to the parking lot, I rushed towards the corner where my car had been parked, I looked around but couldn't see her anywhere.

"Khushi!" I called her out as I looked around for her I rushed from one place to the other but I couldn't find her anywhere, did she just leave without me? why would she do that? I was going to drop her for heaven sake.

This girl was so stubborn sometimes, I couldn't stop worrying, what if something went wrong, what would I do?

"Don't tell me you left alone!" I stamped my feet angrily and just then, I saw her, a bit further from where I was standing, she was lying on the floor.

"Khushi!" I shouted as I rushed towards her, she was lying unconscious on the floor, I picked her up in my arms hurriedly and rushed towards my car, I was worried for her wondering what might have happened to her suddenly.

She had fainted like this even once before and I couldn't understand what was wrong with her, was it because she was stressed about Shrey or something else?

I put her on the backseat and drove her to the hospital directly hoping and praying that she was okay, she had so much of stress at the moment, maybe it was because of that.

I called Shrey who as usual dint receive my call, I dint know what was wrong with him, he was acting so strange suddenly, he even made me believe that maybe he was actually cheating on Khushi.

I sat outside waiting for the doctors to finish checking up on her as I kept on praying to God for everything to be okay.

After ten minutes, my phone rang, I pulled it out from my pocket and I was so glad to see Shrey's name flashing on the screen.

"Hello." I received the call.

"You called me? Sorry I was taking a shower so I couldn't receive your call, tell me what's up." He asked.

"Khushi... I don't know what happened to her Shrey, she just fainted, I've brought her to the hospital and the doctors are checking up on her, I think she's stressed, there has been a lot going on in her mind lately and I think you're the only one who can help her, I don't care whatever work it is that you're doing there, just leave it half way and come back." I said worriedly.

"Is she okay? What did the doctors say? Did they tell you what happened to her?" Shrey asked worriedly.

"No they are still inside, running some tests and all."

"Okay relax, I'm taking the next flight available and I'll be there as soon as I can, till then please take care of her."

"Okay, I hope you haven't done anything to hurt her Shrey, I'll seriously kill you if..."

"It's not the time to talk about all that Arnav, I promise I'll explain everything once I'm back, till then please just take care of her."

"I will but be back soon." I disconnected the call and settled down on the bench once again, I dint even know what explanation Shrey was going to give me to justify all that we had seen, the pictures, the video call where Khushi saw the girl, everything was so messed up.

Khushi's once perfect life and had turned into a messed up one, I wondered how everything was ever going to get back to normal.

"If anything happens to her, I swear I'll kill that Aria girl who made you do all this to her, I won't ever forgive you Shrey." I clenched my fists angrily.

I stood up as I paced from one corner to the other waiting for the doctor to inform me about her, I just hoped that she was going to be okay.

I saw a nurse rushing outside, I rushed towards her and stopped her midway.

"How is Khushi? Can you please tell me what's wrong with her? What happened to her? Is she going to be okay?" Arnav asked worriedly.

"Are you her husband?" She looked at me seriously.

"What happened? Is it something serious?" I asked as I looked at her in confusion.

"She's suffering from meningioma, it's a type of brain cancer that's more common in women, I wonder how you don't have an idea about it yet because she's been getting routine checkups done in this hospital itself and the cancer has been there for a while now." The doctor said as he walked out of Khushi's room.

"What? Cancer? Are you serious?" I asked as I looked at them in shock.

Cancer wasn't just a word, it was something big, it was something that was difficult to treat at times and it even took lives of people, I had never been more terrified in my entire lifetime like I was today after learning that Khushi had cancer.

It was something difficult to digest, I dint even want to believe it, I was just hoping that this was going to turn out to be a nightmare, only if it was a nightmare.

I rushed inside the room where she was lying on the bed peacefully sleeping, I sat next to her as I held her hand and pressed it between mine, tears rolled down my eyes as I looked at her wondering why life had to play such terrible games with her.

She was just married for two years, she had just started living her life and her husband was already cheating on her, as if that was less now she even had to battle with cancer, it was just so terrible.

"Is it difficult to cure?" I asked as I looked at the doctor who had followed me inside.

"I can't really say, we'd have to carry a few more tests and confirm but even if it's curable or not, plus we don't have any oncologist here who can treat this kind of cancer, you'll have to take her to another hospital or find the best oncologist who can deal with this." The doctor suggested, he tapped on my shoulder as he walked away leaving me alone with Khushi.

In a matter of just a few days, her life had gone from perfect to terrible, nothing seemed to be perfect anymore.

"I promise it's all going to be okay Khushi, I'll do everything in my power to save you, this cancer can't harm you, it can't take you away from me, I won't let it happen." I held her hand tighter, right now I wasn't even sure what I was going to be but I was sure of one thing, I dint care whatever it took to heal her, I would do anything just to see her okay once again.

I wiped my tears and walked out of the room, I had to start from somewhere and because I dint have any medical knowledge, it was better if I talked to a doctor and learnt everything about Khushi's cancer and how I could help her, because that's what I was going to do.
