2. #LimeGreenWellies

Third POV

It was the middle of Term 2, the Year 11 Geography students had a trip to the beach. They were doing a research assessment on long shore drift, erosion and beach management. The yellow coach stopped at the bus parking area. Students exited, some had just woken up from a nap. I mean who doesn't fall asleep on a three hour journey!? Maddelena jumped off the coach, fuelled to the brim with excitement. She was wearing bright green dotty festival wellies and she flaunted them off. Alex came from behind her, shivering as the cold air hit him.

I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Alex repeated the three words in his head over and over again. Who's idea was this?! To send teenagers to the beach in the middle of winter?! He look around, trying to find Maddie (Maddelena's nickname),only to spot her walking around with her bright wellies and a turquoise fanny pack on her hip. He had asked her about the fanny pack, but she glared at him as if he had just offended her,and called him a fashion unappreciater.Alex didn't know much about fashion but he guessed that fanny packs were a crime. She claimed that her dress code was watermelon, so that she could bring the summer feeling to the beach.

The teachers called everyone in and explained where they could go and what to do in an emergency. After the little talk every group split to go in separate ways. Maddie and Alex walk down to the coast to measure the gradient of the sand. Him at the bottom holding the tape measure while she walks to the top of the hilly bit with the spool at the end.

After collecting their data and research assessment. Maddie decided that they should adventure outside of the designated area that they were supposed to stay in. Alex (being a by-the-book boy) was strictly against this, but she dragged him along with her and there was nothing he could do about it

They walked up a hill. A very long hill. A very TIRING hill. Alex collapsed at the top gasping for air. Why did I agree to this?! He thought as the waves ate at the cliff bottom, munching loudly. What are we doing here?!

Maddelena peered over the edge into the water. She spotted a cave, the most amazing yet dangerous idea piped into her head. She turned to Alex, he had already read her mind. He started shaking his head, he couldn't be part of this madness. She nodded slowly as a wicked smile made its way onto her face. Alex's eyes widened with fear, he couldn't escape this time.

Alex's POV

Nope. Nope. Nope. Never in my life. Maddelena continued to nod slowly, her smile getting wider per second. There's no way I was getting out of this. Maddelena turned around with her back facing to me and started pull her top up. She turned to me. I looked away swiftly

"Quit looking! You Perv!" She warned sharply.

"Sorry." I replied, whilst starting to take off my clothes.

We both stood at the edge of the cliff. I looked down and estimated that the sea was about 35 meters(about 120-130 feet) down. This should be pretty safe I guess. But I should probably start praying, you know just in case.

"Are you scared?" Maddelena asks, noticing my shaking posture.

"Yes. No. Maybe" I reply, watching the violent waves attack the cliff bottom.

She reaches out and clutches onto my hand. Squeezing gently. We both take a deep breath. Walk back a few steps. Then run up and jump.

SPLASH!! I feel icy cold water swallowing me whole. A jellyfish beside me, floating with the tide. I reach out and swim to the surface. At the surface I see Maddelena sitting on a rock on the little beach at the bottom of the cliff. She was squeezing her hair, that was now limp and flat, to get the water out. I swam towards her onto the beach. She squealed as a I shook my head and the water splashed everywhere.

"Look a cave!" Maddelena screamed excitedly and pointed at an entrance in the cliff face. Mhy eyes were led to the area where she was pointing.

"And that interests me how?". I say rolling my eyes. We've already jumped off a cliff, what else is there?!

" Don't be such a spoilsport. Let's explore!" She jumps of the rock and heads towards the entrence.
Being the only sensible person here I decided to follow her.

At first the cave was normal and boring, but later into the cave there were coloured crystals and stones all over the wall. Maddelena gasped and squealed with excitement. She ran up to a wall and started to try to take some stones off the wall. After many attempts she stumbled backwards onto her bottom and pouted.

"I can't take them out!" She wailed.

"Have you tried picking up the ones that have fallen off the wall and are currently on the ground." I replied with a smirk. I'm not usually cocky, but she did make me jump off a cliff.

"You could have told me earlier, you meanie!" She took two round flat stones. One was sea blue with a hint of green, whist the other was a deep moody purple-red colour. They both had holes in.

"I'm gonna turn them into necklaces, we'all get one stone each." She beamed.

"I don't really wear jewellery." Once the words had come out of my mouth, her smile turned into a scowl.

"Well, you're about to start wearing jewellery now! And you don't have a say about it! Because these are our best friend necklaces!" Her voice echoed off the cave walls.

It was at this moment I knew, I was never getting away from Maddie.

But I'm not complaining.

The walk back to the coach was slightly easier than the walk up the hill. Maddelena and I had dried naturally with the cold air spiralling around us. With our clothes back on we made our way through the beach back to the coach. Maddie plopped through the wet sand and the seawater with her green and white spotty wellies. She jumped around like Peppa pig in mud puddles, splashing water everywhere.

Everyone else was already in the coach, they were just waiting for us. The coach was going to arrive late to school.

That's just great(!)

The coach rolled into the front of the school and parked. Alex checked his watch. It was 4:30, his bus would have come an hour ago. He knew what this meant. More walking

All of a sudden he was pushed to the ground. He heard a giggle on top of him. No she didn't. Maddelena had jumped on Alexanders back, throwing him to the ground.

"How are you getting home Ali baba?(A/N another random nickname for Alex)." She asked whilst sitting on his back resting her head between two hands.

"I'm walking." He mumbled with his cheek squashed against the tarmac floor.

"I'm walking too! But only to the bridge." She grinned.

"Well I better start. See ya Maddie." Alex started walking down only to be pulled back by his collar.

"So your just gonna leave a girl to walk by herself." She said with a scowl and some intense attitude. She suddenly pulled a puppy face, pouting her bottom lip. "I could get hurt out there. There's creeps, murderers, kidnappers, pedo-"

"Fine, fine. I'll walk with you." Alex interrupted her in the middle of her sentence. She tackled him with a hug.

"Yay!! Let's go!!"

Maddelena's POV

The wind gently nudged my dark curls. I look to my left to see Alex listening to music on his phone. It's super loud, so he probably won't hear me. You don't know till you try.

"CHEESEPUFFS!!!" I scream into his ears. Alex jumped out of his skin and ripped his ear plugs out of his ears.

"WHAT THE FUC-" He started to scream. I covered his mouth before he could swear.

"Don't swear. It's disgusting. Replace it with other words. Like fudge." I told him off, whilst he nodded his head. So I retracted my hand away from his mouth.

"What the fudge was that for?!" He whispered, poking his ears with his index fingers.

"I was testing if your music made you deaf to the rest of the world." I replie, smirking mischievously.

" That little 'test'." He said making little quotation signals with his hands. "May have made me deaf to everything."

I giggled to myself, whilst Alex just rolled his eyes. He pushed his shoulder into mine pushing me towards the road. I pushed him back, causing him to stumble over a tree root. Soon enough we were in a full on pushing war.

We reached the entrance of the high street. It wasn't a classic busy high street that you see in London, it was more historic and old. But somehow this made the high street look aesthetic.

Whilst walking through the high street, I notice a pink building, with pink block capitals spelling "CANDY". I gasped in awe and pointed at the shop window.

I was suddenly being pulled back by the string on my backpack. My hands reached out towards Candy, grabbing the air as it I could hold the door handle in my palm.

"There's no time, we need to go." Alex said pulling me still. This boy did not just do that! I stood up with my hands on my hips.

"As far as I'm concerned, we have all the time in the world!" I started to push him towards the door.

I walked out of the shop with a bag full of candy, munching away happily.

This isn't too much sugar, is it?
