Prologue

"Mum, are we there yet?"
"No, Lucas, we still need half an hour."
"...Mummy?"
"Yes, honey?"
"Why are we moving again?"
"Well, mummy can't pay for the house, so she has to find another one that is cheaper."

"I can't see my friends anymore. I want our other house, where my friends are back!"
"Honey, I'm sorry, but me and your father can't afford that-"
"But I don't want to! I want our old house back!"

I sighed. I ran my fingers through my thick wavy brown hair and had my dark coloured eyes concentrating only on the road again. It was already late, past eleven and I had a splitting headache. I leaned back, gripped the wheel a bit and felt a sudden warmth on my shoulder.

"It will be ok, he just has to get used to it, I mean, it is a really large house and much cheaper than what we used to have."
"If you say so."
"Darling, please.."
"..."

I couldn't make out what he was trying to say after that when I felt a sharp pain.
My headache made it hard for me to focus or even concentrate on anything that is happening right now.

Where here...
That house doesn't look that bad, I thought to myself. I got out of the car and was greeted by an old man. "Welcome, so as you can see it is a big house and good for a family to live in."
"Why is it so cheap then?" My husband asked while making more lines on his forehead appear

"Well", started the old man in front of me, glancing slightly at the house "It is a bit old and the walls have to be repainted again and other things like that."
Then the man looked at me.
"Oh, let me help you carry those bags in for you", and without waiting too long he threw our bags on his shoulder and went inside.

We followed him and we were all so surprised as to how nice and neatly everything looked. My son couldn't even help to gasp at how breathtaking it looked inside of this old house.

"You just need to make this house alive again".
"That is an odd way of putting it I murmured to myself, not sure what he was actually talking about. "Is something darling?"
"No, no it's nothing", I quickly answered him. He gave me a quick kiss on my cheek and then went up the stairs.

"Where is my room?" I hear a soft voice ask behind me.
I turn around and thought about which his bedroom was.
"Go upstairs and look at some rooms ok, sweety? The one with the big bed is going to be our room, if you need something you just go down the hallway and on the right, near the window is our bedroom."

Well that is from the picture I saw on the internet. There is also supposed to be a painting next to one of the doors of something too or maybe in the room itself, but I'm not really sure on that.

"Okay mummy." With a bright smile he ran upstairs, happy that he could choose his own room. It made me happy to see him smiling like that. That is when I saw the man bringing in the last bag into the empty room.
"Well, that didn't just hurt my spine", he mumbled to himself in a sarcastic tone of course. I thanked him for bringing our stuff into the house and said goodbye.

Wondering what room my son is going to take, I went up the stairs into the long hallway.
I heard a creaking sound behind me so I quickly turned around only to find a small gap in the door, it was really dark in there, not even able to see properly what is inside I came closer.

Slowly walking towards the slightly opened door with small steps, I stopped.
"Mummy, I found a room!"
I hear Lucas shouting excitedly at the other end of the hallway.
Confused I looked back at the door, but then walked to my son, who was standing there with a big smile and his light shining eyes watching me come over to him.

"Can I really have this room?!"
When I entered the big room, I looked around me. It seems like an old children's bedroom. There were toys scattered all over the floor, a small bed and a beautiful large mirror on the opposite side of the bed.

"I can't see why not", I answered my son with a slight smile. He gave me a quick hug and a quiet 'thank you'.

"Darling, can you come here for a minute?
I unwrapped my arms from Lucas and walked towards him.
"Yes, what is it honey?"
"I just wanted help with were to put our clothing and other stuff."

"Oh, okay." I closed the door behind me as I left and helped him with opening the boxes and putting them in their places neatly and tidy. After a while, I took a break and inspected the room with some of the old things that already was there before we even got here.
"Well, let's see..."

I spotted an old painting on the wall behind me. I was confused at how I didn't even notice it when I entered. The painting shows a young girl with black hair. I then realised that the artist mostly used only blue and black, giving it a depressed and sad aura to it. The girl is standing next to a slightly opened door showing just darkness behind it.

"Why would anyone have such a weird painting on their wall?" My husband questioned a bit puzzled.
"I really don't know", I said, not caring that much about it anymore.
Most of the day has past and I made some spaghetti with sauce very late because I lost track which often happen to if I'm honest.

I then went into my child's bedroom and just as I was about to say good night, he said something that kinda confused me.
"Don't you want to say good night to Lucy?"

He never really had an imaginary friend so I really didn't understand, but played along.
"Uhm, sure...good night Lucy."
The hallway light made me see his face which seemed quite happy and he then slowly shut his eyes.

"Good night, sweety", I whispered, closing the door behind me and went to sleep.
