Chapter 3
As soon as she left, I shut my eyes and let myself fall onto my soft bed behind me. I know she would be back and would ask me to play another game with her, I just hope that it isn't going to sound as dangerous as the last game she told me about.
Mum still doesn't think that she is real, but I somehow have to make her see Lucy. Why does she disappear when Mum comes in?
I don't understand.
I have to convince her in some way. I should ask Lucy why she always hides when my mother is near. Well, I just have to wait.
*SCREAM*
I ripped open my eyes and stared at the door in shock.
"Mummy?!"
I try to stand up and run to the door when I suddenly felt wind blowing behind me and made me shiver in response. I glance at the window. After I looked out of it, I shut it so it wasn't the wind.
I stayed frozen in place fear pushing me over the brink of the edge further and further.
"W h a t ' s t h e m a t t e r ,
L u c a s?"
I heard her voice followed by her breath going down my neck making me cringe. My fingernails digging into the mattress, I imagine what she did to make my mum scream like that.
"What the hell did you do ?!" I snapped at her.
Her presence grew and she appeared right before me with a huge grin on her face.
"Me? Nothing really, I just had a bit of fun", she responds.
Also", she mentioned "Don't you want to know why she screamed like that?" Obviously implying that she scared my mother for just the hell of it.
Her suggesting that I should find out what happened, I immediately got up and dashed out of my room. It didn't took long and I saw my mother on the floor shaking violently also looking horrified.
Maria POV
I walked past the bathroom when I suddenly heard crying coming from inside it. I knocked on the old wooden door and slowly pushed down the door handle to peek in it. I wondered why the crying and sobbing stopped so suddenly when I stepped in, but proceeded to step inside and search for whoever made those sounds.
Upon entering the room, I felt a sudden dread rushing over at me. I felt odd. No one was here. That is impossible I thought to myself when the squeaking door shut right behind me. It scared me and I jumped.
"Lucas?!" I said what came out more as a quiet whisper, "Lucas, don't do that to mummy. That isn't funny o-"
Here in this tiny room without much space, stood a little girl in front of me with a grey coloured dress and long black unbrushed hair hiding most of her face, her skin was similar to that from a porcelain doll or skin as white like the sun's warm touch never even laid a finger on her.
Even though her skin was so light, it wasn't without many flaws. Her body was covered with bruises and dirt and she was looking a bit too skinny for my liking.
The door was behind her and I was standing stiff near the wall that was behind my back. There is a giant mirror to my right when I first notice her. In the corner of my eye, I could see her standing few inches away from my body. I wonder if she knew that I could see her in the mirror.
I thought about maybe saying something to her because other than the bruised and dirty skin and the long hair covering most of her, she looked like an ordinary girl. Until I saw in the mirror that she started smiling at me and giggling. I closed my mouth and gulped.
She ever so slowly took a small step forward and stopped giggling. She was even closer making me feel even more uncomfortable.
She turned her head and looked into the mirror staring directly at me with big bloodshot eyes and a wide bloody grin carved into her cheeks, blood pouring out of her flesh and her look she gave me was horrible.
Seeing her face made me nearly unconscious because of how gruesome it looked, but her staring at me made me feel even more freaked out to the point that I was standing horrified with my mouth stretched open, my eyes staring back in the mirror at her. I was terrified and coming back to my senses, I screamed at the top of my lungs until I felt a burning in my throat of how dry it was.
The next thing I remember was closing my eyes hard as I could and ran out of that room I was in and sat at the floor in the hall, my heart beating painfully fast making me feel dizzy. Some boiling hot tears fell onto my jeans and I watched how the wet tear grew and darkened a small spot on my trousers.
My eyes were wide open and I looked probably like I am crazy or something when I heard my sons voice asking me what was wrong with a scared expression plastered on his face. I didn't say anything and looked away. I felt his warmth and I wondered why.
I saw his arms wrapped around me and felt his heartbeat against mine. My son took me in embrace and I felt a bit better again.
