Chapter 11: The girl who he let walk away

Not edited

"You're such a bitch," Harry whispered and Taylor gasped, a frown etched on her face.
"What ?" She asked incredulously.

"You heard me, you are a bitch. How dare you apply for a college that is in Washington ? Do you even know how far Washington is ? No, you don't because your geography has always been weak!"

"Who told you ? I only told my family about it, no one else."

"Oh so you never meant to tell me about it ?"

"I believe you were the one who stopped talking to me after you found out that I'm in love with you!"

"But, But we're still best friends, right ?" Harry asked with his eyes glazing over.
"We stopped being best friends the day you watched me walk away!" Taylor whispered rather harshly, Harry groaned and took a step forward and grabbed Taylor by her elbow with a iron like grip.
"You were supposed to just-just call me!" He bit out harshly, angry tears brimming in his eyes. "You're not making any sense, Harry. You should go back to Lillian, that bitch is waiting for your to be her arm candy." Taylor said with a roll of her eyes and freed herself from Harry's grip and walked away with her graduation gown and cap on her arm. Harry stood there, watching her walk away, just like he always did.

The party was on full on swing, red cups littered on the floor, the stench of alcohol way too strong for Taylor's liking, sweaty bodies moving here and there, music blasting through the speakers and then there was Taylor who was busy glaring at the guy who was attempting to 'flirt' with Taylor. Can he shut his stinky mouth up ? Taylor thought and the guy suddenly stopped talking. "What ?" He asked with a gasp making Taylor scrunch up her nose. "Did I say that aloud ?" She asked sheepishly and the guy rolled his eyes and walked past her, purposely bumping his shoulders with hers. "Immature brat," Taylor said to herself and adjusted her tank top's strap that was about to fall down her shoulder. "Never wear tank tops at parties!" A voice slurred and Taylor looked in the direction of where that voice came from. "Wha- Oh! Cory, I was wondering where you were because you know, you were the one who invited me to this party and nobody knows me but I know them and I know that's weird but" Cory cut off Taylor's ramble by pushing a piece of brownie inside Taylor's mouth. "You talk to0 much," Cory slurred and put her arm around Taylor's shoulder and led her out of the crowded kitchen towards what should've be been  a dining room but looked like some kind of debate club but with strobe lights and DJ with people sitting in a circle on the floor with solo cups filled with different type of drinks in their hands. "Everyone say hey to Taylor, Taylor say hey to everyone," Cory yelled loudly and plopped down next to a guy with dark skin who was busy playing with the hair of the boy who was sprawled on his chest. So cute! Darkness said and Taylor had to agree with her, they both were cute. "Taylor find a place to sit and then we'll proceed with the game," Cory said and laid her head on Rony's shoulder; a guy who was in Taylor's maths class. Taylor searched for a place to sit and the only empty spot was next to a girl with bright pink hair who had ink all over her neck. Never seen that one before darkness said and Taylor rolled her eyes and sat down next to the girl with bright pink hair.
Cory opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted as none other than Lillian and Harry entered the room with a very drunk Lillian clinging onto Harry's arm. "Hello everybody!" Lillian yelled, her words slurred. "Lillian, Harry, come on join us!" Cory waved them over and both of them sat right in front of Taylor from then on Taylor's mind blocked out everything. Her eyes only focused on the way how Harry moved back a strand of Lillian's hair from her forehead or how he rubbed her back when Lillian looked up at him from her position on his shoulder or how he played with Lillian's fingers or how his smile faded away when he looked at Taylor and how his eyes filled with sadness and anger.
"Taylor, it's your turn," Cory's voice broke Taylor out of her trance and she looked at Cory with a confused look, not knowing what the game was or what she had to do. "Truth or dare ? By the way I'm Riley." The pink haired girl said and Taylor gave her a thankful smile and introduced herself before bravely saying "dare."

A//N: STOP! Listen to walking in the wind by One Direction while reading this part.

"You've always been bad when it came to party games and geography," Harry said and laid on his back with his arms folded behind his head to make a cushion for his head. Taylor had managed to embarrass herself by agreeing to remove her top in front of everyone but ended up with trembling hands and flushed cheeks and Harry had managed to jump in and saved Taylor from further embarrassment. Harry and Taylor had walked out of the house, laughing like the past few months never happened but before walking out Harry made sure that Lillian was okay, telling her that he'll be back in a few minutes, kissing her on the forehead and smiling softly at her drunken nod.
Taylor chose to ignore him and just looked up at the stars, her own arms folded behind her head. "So, you're really going to Washington huh ?" Harry asked, breaking the awkward silence between them. "Yes and you're probably going to Brooklyn with Lillian," Taylor stated more than asked and Harry looked at her from the corner of his eyes. "I've always wanted to go to Brooklyn and get out of Albany and Brooklyn is closer to Albany than Washington is." Harry almost snapped, hands forming into fists behind his hand.
"Distance does not matter when you don't have anyone waiting for you back home," Taylor whispered and a tear fell from her left eye, always a traitorous eye.

"You have your parents and your brother waiting for you!"

"They won't be waiting for me, that I assure you." Taylor said with a bitter chuckle.
"Nonsense! They love you, Taylor." Harry said and both of them looked at each other, eyes filled with different emotions.
"I-I'll be waiting for you," Harry whispered, nobody knew how it happened but it did, Taylor and Harry were now close, noses almost touching. "You'll be with Lillian in Brooklyn," Taylor whispered brokenly and Harry sighed and stood up, Taylor stood up too and looked up at the sky with a sad smile and then looked at Harry. "I'm gonna leave for Washington in two days and I just wanted to tell you something before I left this place for good," Taylor said with a little wobble in her voice. "Harry! Everyone is waiting for you," Taylor let out a deep breath and looked down at her feet when she heard a guy's voice call out for Harry, Harry waved the guy off and told him he'll be there in a few. "What do you want to say to me ?" Harry said with hopeful eyes, thinking that maybe she won't go. But why did he not want her to go when he, himself, was going to leave Albany ? Maybe because then he would be the one who would have someone waiting for him, maybe if she stayed then they would be able to meet each other every weekend and solve everything between them, be best friends again.

"I love you," Taylor said with tears in her eyes, her lips trembling, hands fisted by her sides, legs a little wobbly. Harry's mouth opened and closed like a fish, no words coming out of his mouth. Just say something, anything. Taylor looked at him with hope but that hope soon went away when Harry's shoulder dropped and he shook his head, looking down. Taylor sighed  and nodded and walked away.
"Stop me, tell me we can be fine again, tell me you love me," Taylor whispered to herself as she walked away with tears streaming down her face. Taylor looked over her shoulder and saw that he was not standing there anymore.

He let her walk away, just like he always did.
