Chapter 17: "Protecting You
Brenda's eyes fluttered open, her head pounding with a dull ache. She was lying in her bed, but she had no memory of how she got there.
As she sat up, a wave of dizziness washed over her. She closed her eyes, trying to remember the events of the previous night.
Suddenly, a gentle hand touched her shoulder. "Brenda, are you okay?" Mr. Heart's voice was soft and concerned.
Brenda opened her eyes to find Mr. Heart sitting beside her, a look of worry etched on his face.
"What happened last night?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
Mr. Heart helped her sit up, propping pillows behind her back. "You got drunk at the party, and I brought you home," he explained.
Brenda's face flushed with embarrassment. "Oh no, I'm so sorry," she said.
Mr. Heart smiled and handed her a glass of water. "Don't apologize, Brenda. I'm just glad I was there to take care of you."
Just then, Brenda's phone buzzed with an incoming text. She glanced at the screen and her heart sank.
"What's wrong?" Mr. Heart asked, noticing her expression.
Brenda hesitated before showing him the text. It was a photo of her and James, taken at the party the night before. The caption read: "Looks like Brenda is still in love with James."
Mr. Heart's face darkened, his jaw clenched in anger. "This is not going to ruin us," he growled.
Brenda felt a surge of fear. What if Mr. Heart didn't believe her? What if he thought she was still in love with James?
But Mr. Heart's next words reassured her. "We'll get through this together, Brenda. I trust you."
Brenda's heart swelled with love and gratitude. She knew that she could always count on Mr. Heart to support her.
But just as they were about to come up with a plan to deal with the situation, Brenda's phone buzzed again. This time, it was a call from an unknown number.
Brenda hesitated before answering. "Hello?" she said cautiously.
"Brenda, it's Ayla," the voice on the other end said. "You think you're so perfect, but you're not. And soon, everyone will see the real you."
Brenda's heart racing, she hung up the phone. She knew that Ayla was not going to give up easily.
"What's wrong?" Mr. Heart asked, noticing her expression.
Brenda took a deep breath before telling him about the call. Mr. Heart's face darkened, his eyes blazing with anger.
"Don't worry, Brenda," he said. "I'll take care of Ayla. You're safe with me."
Brenda felt a surge of relief, knowing that Mr. Heart would always protect her. But she couldn't shake off the feeling that Ayla was not going to give up easily...
