Chapter 63
Emma's POV
It took me a moment to process what was happening. Brendon heard everything- well at least I'm sure he heard the last part. He knows I killed his dad.
"Brendon!" I yelled as he turned away and ran out of my room. "Fuck you Jesse" I yelled as I stood up and ran ignoring the pain in my leg.
Brendon rushed out of my house as I quickly ran after him. "Please wait Brendon, let me ex-"
"Explain? You want to f*cking explain how you oh KILLED my dad, just- just leave me alone b*tch" He said, looking at me for a split second then turned away walking down the street. My heart dropped to my stomach as I blinked away the tears.
"Brendon" I said once again, finally catching up and grabbing his arm. "Please let me explain" I said, tugging his arm.
"I said leave me the f*ck alone, I never want to see you again" He growled, pulling his arm away from my grip making me stumble over who knows what.
Everything seemed to be in slow motion as I realized I was falling, when suddenly there was a sharp pain on the side of my head then everything went black.
................
Brendon's POV
"Emma? EMMA! F*ck, Emma wake up please" I yelled, falling down on the ground, trying to shake Emma awake.
"Emma! F*cking dumbass wh- ugh" I quickly picked her up bridal style.
Her head was bleeding and the blood was dripping down onto the sidewalk from her hair. I looked at the lamppost she hit as she fell, there was a big rock with a really sharp edge.
My heart started beating faster as I quickly ran back up to her house and laid her down on the couch as Jesse strolled down the stairs.
I wanted to kill him.
I ran up to him, pushing him up against the wall with my hands on his neck. "What did you do to Emma?" I yelled as Jesse grabbed my wrist trying to pull away from my grip. "I- I didn't d-do sh*t, f*cking hell j-just call 911" He croaked, his eyes widening when he noticed Emma on the couch. He was right. I was being stupid, it wasn't his fault she hit her head right now. But everything else IS his fault. I don't give a sh*t so fight me if you don't agree.
"Go get a cloth to put against her head to try and stop the bleeding for now" I told Jesse quickly, letting go of his neck.
I quickly pulled out my phone and ran back to Emma, going down on my knees next to Emma as I called 911.
...
"Where's my f*cking daughter" I heard Emma's dad yell as his footsteps echoed throughout the room. He ran up to the counter where a nurse was working on the computer.
"Where the hell is my daughter? What happened to her? I need to see her right now, her name is Emma Graces " He demanded. I had never seen him this mad and worried.
In fact, Emma's dad always seemed to be in a chill mood.
"Sir, please calm down, she is in a surgery right now, to get the rest of the information about her, please wait in the waiting room until a doctor calls you, your daughter will be okay" The nurse told Emma's dad as I walked up to her dad and put my hand on his shoulder.
Her dad's eyes were red with tears as he pulled me into a tight hug as I patted his back.
"I can't lose her too Brendon, f*ck I already lost her mother, please not her too" Her dad cried into my shoulder. "She will be okay, she is really strong, we both know that" I reassured him.
I couldn't tell if I was trying to convince him or myself that she was going to be okay though. But I was sure of one thing.
She is strong as f*ck.
I sat down sighing as Jesse, who was sitting a few seats away from me, glared. "This is all your fault you dumbass" He said, laughing sarcastically. "How the hell is this my fault? If you hadn't convinced Emma that you would go around telling everyone about what she did, this would've never happened" I said exasperatedly.
"Or maybe if you knew how the f*ck to stay away from Emma, she wouldn't have to go through with my sh*t" He said. My jaw clenched.
I knew it. Jesse- that sick bastard.
"Emma doesn't want you, are you dumb? Forcing her to date you isn't going to get you anywhere, do you really think she'll fall for you one day if you continue forcing her to date you?" I said. Was this guy for real? He was a lot more retarded than I thought.
Jesse didn't reply, he just stood up and stomped away. I scoffed, leaning back, stretching out my legs.
I sighed and looked down at my shirt and arm, Emma's blood was stained on the shoulder part of my shirt along with my arm and hand from when I held a towel against her head to try and stop the blood.
I got up and walked to the bathroom. Just as I was going to push the door open, I heard a grunt from inside, peaking through the small opening, I saw Jesse punching the wall then banging his head against the wall with tears flowing down his face.
Fml.
I sighed, pushing the door open and walking in, grabbing Jesse's arm stopping him from punching the wall. "Leave me alone" He said trying to catch his breath. I held onto his arm staring at him as he kept trying to get out of my grip then finally gave up, and started to breathe a little more normally.
Jesse sunk down to the ground, sobbing. I would call him a pussy but not the right time obviously.
Although I despise him for what he's done to Emma, I knew better than to start another problem right now. "I should just go and die, what I'm doing to Emma is so f*cked up, what's wrong with me- why is everything wrong with me" He sobbed into his hand.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and shut my eyes, already regretting what I'm about to say. "You made mistakes, everyone makes mistakes. It's about time you realized though, so just change Jesse, leave Emma alone, get rid of your old ways and get proper treatment and medication for your BPD" I said. Jesse stood up and gave me a small smile and walked into a cubicle as I spotted his phone on the floor.
Without thinking, I grabbed it and slipped it into my pocket and walked out.
I ignored all the awkward stares from people as I walked by. They probably noticed the blood.
Jogging up the stairs to next floor, I walked down the hallway searching for another bathroom. I finally found a bathroom and walked in and cleaned up.
...
It's all your fault.
You shouldn't have done that and let her explain.
Emma might never wake up because of you.
You should have helped her and been there for her.
You let Jesse hurt her.
I angrily punched the wall.
I wanted Emma to wake up. I need her, she... she means everything to me.
Its been 5 days since Emma's been in that coma, the doctors said that she would wake up in around a weak or so- hopefully. It's also been 5 days since I've last slept, does it matter?
No, couldn't care less.
Punching the wall a couple more times, I looked down at my bleeding knuckles, then up at the small dents on the wall. "That looks pathetic" I muttered to myself, as I walked to the bathroom and washed my hands.
I winced in pain as the cold water made contact with my knuckles. After washing and cleaning the blood off, I headed out of my room and went straight to the hospital.
I sat down in the waiting room. Someone tapped me on my shoulder as I looked up. "Hey Brendon.. did you get any sleep like I told you yesterday?" a nice, middle-aged nurse named Claire asked me.
"No" I muttered, rubbing my temple. "I understand you're worried about Emma but you need to be healthy and strong for her so when she wakes up you can be there for her" She said, giving me a sympathetic smile.
I stared at the tiled floor for a moment before nodding my head slowly. "I guess you're right.." I mumbled. "Come with me, I can take you to a room and let you sleep there for a couple hours- I'm not really allowed to, but it doesn't matter, they can't fire me- I'll make sure to wake you up if there is any news about Emma darling" She told me, putting her hand on my shoulder.
I was hesitant for a moment but then gave in and stood up. "Thank you for everything" I said as she just smiled and led the way to wherever I was going to take a nap.
I plopped down on a bed and pulled the blanket above me. "Thank you again" I said. "Don't mention it- now you close your eyes and get some sleep alright?" She said as I nodded with a small smile.
I closed my eyes and try to fall asleep.
"Brendon, Brendon get up" Someone said, shaking me awake. I shot up and rubbed my eyes to find Theo and Becky standing by the bed. "What the f*ck do you want?" I muttered. "It's Emma"
I jumped out of the bed and rushed out of the room and headed straight to the room Emma was staying in. I got to the door and stared at the wooden door with my hand on the doorknob. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open to find Emma and her dad talking.
Emma's eyes slightly widened at the sight of me. Her dad must have noticed because he got up, kissed her forehead and walked out.
"Hey.." I mumbled walking towards her and sitting down next to her. "I'm sorry Brendon, I really am" She said with tears in her eyes. "Hey, hey, hey It's okay just relax for a second, I'm more concerned about how you're doing than the other thing" I said softly, my thumb wiping a tear away. "I'm okay I guess" She said shrugging. "Does your head hurt?" I asked. "A little bit but I'm okay" She mumbled. "How are you doing? You look like you haven't slept in days" She continued, reaching up and putting her hand on my cheek.
"Um, doesn't matter I'm just glad you are okay" I muttered. My phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket. I fished it out and remembered it was Jesse's phone not mine.
Get your money. Tonight, 10 pm. Sapphire Club.
I raised my brow looking at the text, now that was weird. Money? What?
I looked at Emma who looked really confused. "I'll be right back" I said, leaning up and kissing her cheek and rushing out.
I found Jesse sitting on a chair staring at the wall. "Hey Jesse, I just found your phone in the bathroom and thought I should give it to you" I said. "Oh, sh*t thank god, thanks" He said, taking the phone from my hand.
I knew people deserved their privacy, but Jesse? Nope, I was going to find out everything about this.
....
I parked my car and slowly walked across the street to the Sapphire club. I spotted Jesse going into the club, as I silently followed him and got in as well, I pushed past people who were dancing, drinking, talking to one another but kept my eyes on Jesse, knowing better than to lose track of him.
He sat on a high stool in front of the bar counter next to some bold dude. Unexpectedly, they stood up and headed out the back of the club. I quickly and quietly followed them out the back and stood behind the trash containers listening to them.
"So did everything go as planned?" The bold dude spoke, I knit my brows. I could have sworn his voice sounded a little familiar. "Yes, it did, now my money?" Jesse demanded. I could imagine him holding his hand out.
"Hey, you don't get to talk with that attitude" The bold dude snapped. "Sorry" Jesse muttered, barely loud enough for me to hear.
"Wait that's it? 5 grand? You said 10" Jesse complained as my eyes widened. "The only thing you did was set that house on fire and killed Russel, 5 is enough" The bold dude spoke.
My dad? Wait what?
"Did you forget? What about the woman like 10 years ago? Your dumb boss made my dad kill her, and then instead of paying him, he killed my dad" Jesse said angrily.
What woman?
"Your father was stupid, he shouldn't have pushed her off the damn lighthouse and made it seem like a suicide, shooting her would have been so much better" The bold guy said. My heart was pounding in my chest as his words slowly sank in.
Woman. 10 years ago. Lighthouse. Suicide.
Emma's mom.
