Emma's POV

"Hey Eric" I said as I walked into the kitchen." Morning." he said.

I sat at the kitchen island. "Anything happening between you and Brendon?" Eric asked."Nope" I said.

"Do you want something between you two?" He asked." I don't know" I answered.

Eric nodded,then went back to cooking his omelet.After he was done, he gave me the omelet to eat.

"Isn't this yours?" I asked. "No, I made it for you" he said,taking a seat in front of me.

I picked up the fork next to me and started eating.

Something wasn't right.

"Eric, what's wrong?" I suddenly asked,putting down the fork."Huh? Nothing" he quickly answered.

Nothing,my ass.

"Tell me what's wrong." I said,"No its nothing." He said.

"Fine, after I finish eating, I'll be waiting in the living room, and you better come and tell me what's wrong, okay?" I said,picking up my fork again.

After I was done, I went out of the kitchen and sat on a couch in the living room. Brendon had left a while ago, so I was alone.

Eric soon came in, he looked really nervous and pale.He looked like he was about to pass out.

He sat next to me on the couch and looked down at his fidgeting hands.

"Eric, you can trust me I'm your best friend, what's the problem?" I asked again.

"That's exactly the problem." He said.

Huh?

"I'm your problem...you don't want me to be your best friend?" I asked, getting upset.

Jesse was right, of course no one would want to be my friend.

"No, not like that, I love being your best friend, its just I- well, I don't want to just be your best friend..ever since I met you,I wanted something more Emma,I've always liked you more than as a best friend." He said,putting his hand over mine.

Waaaaait.

No.

I didn't see that coming.

"I-" I didn't know what to say. What am I supposed to say? My childhood best friend just confessed he liked me.

"Emma, will you go on a date with me?" Eric asked. I looked into his eyes.

I didn't know what to answer.

I didn't even know what I wanted.

I didn't want to break his heart.

"I know you weren't expecting this, but please give it a try? Give us a try" he said softly.

For a moment I was considering running away and locking myself in the bathroom, which would be reallystupid.

"I don't know..but I dont want to say no either..so yes ..I guess I can give it a try?" I said. Eric's face lit up instantly.

He had a huge smile on his face."Thanks Emma, tonight at 8?" He asked." Sure" I said, returning a smile.

He grabbed my hand and got up and spun me around.

"Wait Eric, aren't you leaving at the end of the break?" I asked." Yeah that was the plan, until yesterday. I decided to stay for a month
or two,maybe even come back to school." He said.

Wow, he really thought this through...

To be honest, I was happy, I didn't think anyone would
want me.

Emma:Can you come over?

Becky: sure.be there in 10.

I am nervous,even though I went to the cinema and a lot of places with Eric alone, this was an actual date.

I've never been on a date.

I had a while before Becky came.So I decided to go to my brother, who was in his room.

Instead of knocking, I walked right in, and found him writing something sitting in front of his study desk.

"Thanks for knocking" he said,turning to look at me. "Welcome,now help me." I said, sitting on his bed.

"With?" He asked." A date." I said."Who asked you out?" He asked."Eric."I said, my face heating up.

"Finally,took him forever to ask" he said,laughing.

"You knew?" I half yelled. He nodded. "Well so what do you need help with?" He asked.

"I've never been on a date before." I said." Never ever ever ever?" He asked,with wide eyes." Yeah, never" I said.

He started laughing."You're joking right?" He asked. I glared at him." Oh wait,sorry you're not.." He said.

"It's okay, just what should I do?" I sighed." Just be yourself." He said,shrugging.

"Heard that a lot, but being myself doesn't ever workout" I said."Eric was your best friend since middle school, he has seen your worst,and still likes you a lot, what is there to worry about?" My brother said,putting a hand on my shoulder.

Good point.

"Well, okay thanks." I said and left his room.I went to my room to find Becky infront of my closet,I walked over to her.

"Hey Emma!" She said, turning around giving me a hug."hey.. You okay?" I asked." Yeah why" she asked, grinning like an idiot.

"So what are you going to wear?!" She said, going through my closet again. "Um.. I didn't even tell you I'm going somewhere,how do you..of course." I said faceplaming.

"Did you know? This whole time?and you never told me?!" I asked,shocked." Well I found out about um..1 or 2 years ago? Maybe.." She said.

I sighed.

"Wear this" she said,handing me a blue strap tank top, jeans and a black cardigan.

I got dressed then put on 2 arrow cuffs and ankle booties.

I looked at the time, I still had about half an hour." Can I do your nails?" Becky asked.I nodded as I sat down on my bed,crossed legged and Becky came with a baby blue nail polish bottle and started painting my nails.

"Emma, did you realize, you stopped reading so much?" Becky said,as she motioned me to hold the nail polish bottle with my free hand.

"Um..no not until now." I said. She was right, I dont read as much anymore.

"You used to read like 5 or 7 books a day,now you read like 3 books a week" she said.

"Yeah.." I said." How is your dad?" I asked." He..isn't doing that well,he started drinking though, but he doesn't let it interfere with his work, so we are fine."she said.

"There, all done" she said, forcing a smile."Thanks" I said.

I knew I couldn't do anything to make her feel better, it's not like I could get her mom back..

Before I could say anything she got up and went to my bedroom door." Call me after your date okay?" She said. I nodded then she left.

I laid on my back and waited for my nails to dry up.When it did, I brushed my hair and went downstairs.My dad and Eric were talking in the kitchen.

I cleared my throat and they turned around to look at me.

Eric was wearing jeans and a Nirvana band tee and a black hoodie above. I'm guessing its going to be a casual date.

"Emma, you look amazing" he said, with a big smile,as I returned it." Thanks" I said, feeling my cheeks heat up.

"Emma, does Brendon know about you two going out?"my dad spoke up.

Oh god.

"Dad for the millionth time, me and Brendon are just friends." I sighed." Lets go, bye!" I quickly said,grabbing Eric's wrist and dragging hin out of the house before my dad said anything else.

I shut the front door and sighed. I looked at Eric who was already staring at me. I smiled as we intertwined our fingers together and headed towards his car.

Eric let go of my hand when we got in front of the car and opened the passengers' seat door for me and I slid in.

He sat in the drivers' seat and held my hand again after he started the car.

"Where we going?" I asked. "Its a surprise"Eric said.

"Urgh,I hate surprises and you know that" I said, pouting." I know, that's why I'm not telling you" he said, smirking.

After driving for around half an hour, we were far from the city,driving in an empty highway, with dim street lights. " Um..where we going?" I asked again,I didn't see any restaurants around, where were we going?

"Do you trust me?" He asked. I nodded." Okay then wait" he said, as he continued to drive down the highway.

Finally, we arrived in a large parking lot with a bunch of cars,Eric parked the car.

Eric got out and walked over to my side and opened the door for me." Here?" I asked, confused." Yeah, just trust me and come out" he said holding out his hand.I took his hand and got out,we walked towards a huge gate, there were many people standing and talking.

There were a lot of cars, and by a lot I mean A lot.

Especially expensive cars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsche and a bunch other cars that I don't recognize.

Eric pulled me in between the crowded area,he dragged me up the stairs and took a lot of turns that I couldn't make out since it was that crowded.

Finally after what seemed forever, Eric finally stopped and I looked around.

Whoa..

It was a huge racing arena, there were millions of people,cheering for whoever was racing.

"Oh my god" I said."since this is your first date ever, I thought why not make it really special and different." Eric said.

"Thank you" I said as we saw two of cars coming out and onto the race tracks, I recognized one of the cars.

Levi?

The announcer started announcing the two racers' names as each of them came out and people cheered.

"....Levi Mallory" hearing the announcer's voice through the huge speakers.

"Whoa,wait this is the street racing thing Levi competes in?"I yelled, thinking out loud.

"Yeah, I guess"Eric yelled back, his voice getting drowned out by the huge crowd. The drivers get in their cars and a girl, that doesn't look much older than I am,came holding a flag between the two cars.

She held up the flag with one hand and the other on her hip.

Just as she lowers the flag, they were off,speeding down the racetrack as people cheered even louder, if that was possible.Eric and I cheered as well,as Levi took the lead.

Soon when they were near the finish line, they were racing neck and neck.

Everyone kept cheering for which ever side they were on.

When they were a few seconds away from the finish line,everyone was suddenly quiet.

Finally.

Just then, Levi passed the finish line first and most of the crowd erupted with cheers. My ear drums were about to blow up.

As Levi got out of his car,a voice blarred through the speakers."Cops!!"

Everyone started running around trying to get out of here." Wait. This is illegal!?" I yelled. Eric nodded then grabbed my hand and started dragging me to somewhere.

When he finally stopped,we were in front of his car and it wasn't very crowded.

Thankfully,Eric parked at the back so no cops were around. We quickled hopped into the car and quickly drove away to the empty highway.

"Where is everyone?" I asked. If they are getting out of there? Why is the highway empty?

"This is a back road, no one drives here." He said.

I nodded.

After a while, we entered the city,"Are we going home now?" I asked,Eric shook his head"We're going to go eat at a restaurant." He said.

Something Just Like This by Cold Play was playing on the radio.

I stared out the window, watching the pretty city lights.

"We're here,Emma" someone said, shaking me to wake up.

" Hmm? Oh okay" I said, running my hand through my hair.

We got out and walked towards Applebee's. I remember our parents used to take us here.

We went inside and sat at a booth and ordered our food."Remember once when we came here, Becky started crying while watching a sad movie that was playing on the TV and you started laughing at her reaction and water squirted out of your nose?" Eric said, laughing.

"Hey! Not funny, for the record, it was really painful." I said,crossing my arms above my chest.

We talked about our childhood memories,then the food came so we started eating.

"This tastes amazing, I've had this over a million times but I still love it, never gets old." I said, shaking my head in satisfaction,as Eric chuckled, nodding in agreement.

Just then, I looked up and spotted a guy that looked familiar.

He turned around and looked directly at me.

No.

No.

No.

Noo.

It was Jesse.

What the hell is he doing here?

He looked over at Eric and his expression changed in seconds.

Damn it.

"You okay Emma?" Eric said, turning around to see what-who I was looking at.

"Let's get out of here." I said,wiping my lips with the napkin and getting up, I grabbed Eric's car keys from the table and quickly rushed out of the restaurant.

I ran to Eric's car and sat in the passenegers' seat.I locked the car doors,waiting for Eric.

Just then someone knocked on the window. I jumped up a bit and looked to my side to find Jesse standing there.

Just then Jesse tried to open the car door,but couldn't since it was locked." Open " he yelled,so that I could hear.

I shook my head in fear.

Just then Eric came and banged Jesse's head on the car window and Jesse fell.

I quickly unlocked the car. Eric came in the drivers' seat, shut the door then drove out of the parking area.

"You okay?" He asked." Yeah" I said.

Becky: Come over to my house,ASAP,if you're done with ur date.

Emma: ya, we're done,I'm coming now.

"Hey Eric could you drop me
of at Becky's house, she said its an emergency,if the date is over." I said."Sure" he said and took a left turn.

When we arrived, I took off my seatbelt and looked at Eric."Thank you for tonight." I said smiling."Anytime,I guess I'll have to plan something better to top tonight, for next time." he said,as I chewed on my bottom lip.

"Bye" I said as I got out of the car and watched his car drive away down the street.

I turned and went into Becky's house then went up to her room.

I opened her bedroom door.

"Hey Bec-"

I saw Jessica sitting on Becky's bed.

Where the hell is Becky?
