Chapter 16
Brendon's POV
The car kept beeping, telling me to put my seatbelt on but I was too busy trying to get to Theo's house quickly.
I tried to call him a couple of times but it kept going to voice mail. I pressed down on the accelerator a little harder. I was worried about my best friend.
I parked in the driveway and jogged onto the porch and rang the doorbell. Twice. After a couple of seconds, Theo opened the door, his cheeks were pink and swollen. "You shouldn't be here, my parents they.." He tried to say as I nodded frowning. "I know, Levi told me what happened, I came to check up on you," I said.
Just before Theo could reply, his mom walked towards the door and pulled it open further so she could see me.
"You should leave," She said firmly. "I'm here to check up on my best friend," I said, refusing to leave. "He is fine, he is happy and normal now leave," She said, making anger boil inside me. "He's your son, you should listen to him and understand how he feels, it clear how unhappy he is right now," I said, trying to stay calm.
Theo's mom didn't reply. Her face remained emotionless. I knew nothing I say would make anything better. Theo tried to open his mouth once again but his mom slammed the door in my face.
I stood frozen for a couple of seconds, not sure about what the fuck I was supposed to do. I rolled my eyes and walked back to my car slowly. She doesn't have to be such an asshole. He is happy? Normal?
Being gay makes you abnormal? She can suck a dick.
I pulled out of the driveway and drove back to Levi's house. I could really use a hug from my baby right now.
I got inside and found Emma sleeping on the couch. She looked gorgeous. Even with her slightly parted lips and dried drool on the end of her bottom lip.
When I sat down next to her, Emma slowly opened her eyes and looked at me smiling. There was something off though, I could feel it. It was probably because she was worried about Levi and Theo. "I tried to talk to Theo but his mom stopped me and made me leave," I said sighing. "Ugh of course she did.. what are we going to do babe?" Emma asked, biting her bottom lip.
How the crap was she so hot? I am confusion.
"We'll figure something out Emma, Levi and Theo are going to be okay, things will go back to the way they were," I told her, hoping for the best.
..
Levi's POV
My eyes fluttered open. I laid in bed for a moment before sitting up. I looked at my desk and my heart instantly ached when I saw Theo's sweatshirt laying on it. I slowly stood up and walked to my desk and picked the sweatshirt up.
I brought the sweatshirt up to my nose and took in the smell of Theo's usual cologne. I loved it- I loved him. Tears filled my eyes, making me quickly look up at the ceiling and blink rapidly, trying not to cry. I hated not being able to be with him. The worst part was that it's only been a couple of hours and I was already suffering this much. And the fact that I knew Theo wasn't okay either made things so much worse.
Nausea swirled in my empty stomach, followed by a loud grumble. I needed something to eat, but at the same time, my body refused to move off the bed.
I looked outside, realizing that it was probably past midnight by now. My mind was filled with so many thoughts, I felt weak not being able to control it or my feelings.
I knew I had to stay strong and hold on for Theo. He needs me. I need to be there for him.
Suddenly, I knew what I had to do.
I didn't care if I could get caught, my mind was fixed on the idea of going to Theo's house and I wanted to right now. The strong feeling of needing him in my arms overcame my fear and paranoia of how I might get caught and make it worse.
I just need to see him, to hold him just once more until we can one day again. I grabbed a jacket and pulled it on, quickly running out of my room and out of the house.
I didn't let myself stop even for a moment before running down the street towards Theo's house. I knew I had to keep running and get there quickly before I changed my mind.
Soon after what probably was 10 minutes, I felt my legs aching with their desperate desire to stop running. But still, I didn't stop. I ran past the dark houses and focused on taking in deep breaths.
Finally, I got to Theo's house. I quietly walked to the backyard and looked up at his window. I had to figure out a way to get in there. I looked at the tree next to the wall of his house.
I bit my bottom lip and tiptoed to the tree. I can climb a tree right? It can't be so hard. Do it for Theo.
I took a deep breath and grabbed onto the closest branch. I lifted my leg and tried to push myself up higher. I managed to push up enough for me to grab the next branch and quickly grasped it.
After struggling for a couple of minutes, I finally managed to reach Theo's window.
I knocked lightly, hoping I won't wake anyone in the house but him. Nothing happened. I couldn't see inside because of the curtains.
I knocked once again a little louder than the first time. I sighed, my eyes slightly watering again when Theo didn't come to the window. Just then, the curtains moved and I found myself staring into Theo's bloodshot eyes.
Theo quickly opened the window and helped pull me inside. "I'm so sorry Levi, are you okay? My parents didn't let me leave the house or take my phone back and- ugh fuck I missed you," Theo rambled.
I felt a teardrop roll down my cheek as I hugged him. "It's not your fault," I mumbled, feeling a lot better than I did all day. "We'll figure this out together," I whispered, wrapping my arms a little more tightly around his toned torso.
Theo pulled away but kept his hands on my shoulders. "Are you okay?" He asked as I gave him a small smile. "I am now," I said. A few teardrops rolled down his cheeks as I bit my lip and wiped them away with my thumbs.
"Hey hey it's gonna be okay," I said, holding his face with my hands then pressing my lips on his. It was always Theo who was the strong one, the one who would reassure me when I was being dumb and dramatic.
Seeing Theo so sad and vulnerable made my heart ache painfully. I didn't know what to say or do to make things okay. All I knew is that I had to stay strong for him because he needs me.
Theo pulled away for a moment but kept his face close to mine. "I love you," he whispered. "I love you so much more," I whispered back, kissing him again.
"Theo?" We suddenly heard someone say as I stepped inside. "Dad I-"
"Just- Just stay quiet and don't wake your mother up, Levi needs to leave before sunrise okay?" His dad whispered.
Theo's eyes watered as he walked towards his dad. They stared at each other for a moment and right as his dad opened his mouth to say something, Theo hugged him.
"It might take a while for me to get used to everything but I know for a fact that I still love you. You're my son, I will be here to support you no matter what, I'm sorry about your mother but just don't forget she still loves you okay?" He said as Theo nodded, not letting go of his dad just yet.
After a few moments, his dad pulled away and smiled at him. He looked at me and gave me a short nod then walked out of the room.
Emma's POV
"BABE babe babe where's Levi? He's not in his room, where do you think he went?" I said, lightly shaking Brendon awake.
"whoa whoa hey, calm down, I'm sure he's fine, maybe he went for a run or something," He said, rubbing his eye sleepily.
I sighed. "You're right, I'm sorry you can go back to sleep," I muttered. I lifted his head and sat down, letting him lay his head on my thigh.
Brendon turned to the side and put his hand on my inner thigh and drifted off to sleep. "Oh.. okay then," I whispered, heat slowly creeping up my neck.
The door moved as I saw Levi walk into the house. "Levi you're back! Where'd you go?" I asked. Levi's face seemed bright and he was smiling wide. "I saw Theo," Levi said, smiling with his teeth now. "Oh shit really? That's great! How is he??" I asked, relieved that Levi was okay, also hoping Theo was okay.
"He's doing okay now, turns out his dad decided to accept Theo but I don't know about his mom.." He said, his smile dropping for a split second. "Don't worry it'll all be okay," I tried to reassure him.
"I know, Theo and I will get through it. Thank you so much for being so caring Emma, I love you," Levi said, coming in for a hug. I wrapped my arms tightly around him smiling. "of course Levi, anytime."
seconds"Anyway, I'll go get some rest I'm really tired," He said right after yawning. I nodded with a smile as he waved and jogged up the stairs to his room. I leaned my head back and looked up at the ceiling. I smiled a little relieved that things were a little better.
My phone buzzed. I picked it up and read the text I had just received. It was from my dad.
Dad: Don't come home tonight. Stay at Brendon's. Love you.
I stared at the text reading it over a couple of times. It sounded odd. What was he going to do tonight? "you're just overthinking it Emma," I muttered to myself.
Me: Okay, see you tomorrow, love you too <3
I pressed send and put my phone down, trying to shake off the weird feeling. He's okay, right?
"Babe, you okay?" Brendon asked as my head snapped down to look at his sleepy face. "Mhm yeah, why?" I asked, smiling. "You just looked kind of worried," he replied while rubbing his eye. "My dad just told me not to go home tonight, it's okay if I stay at your place right?" I asked, putting my hand on his cheek.
"Are you kidding? Of course you can," Brendon said happily. I leaned down and pecked his lips, watching him smile as I pulled back. "Levi came back just now, he said he saw Theo. He looked really happy," I informed him. "Hey that's great," Brendon said, making me nod in reply.
"Well, you wanna go to my house?" Brendon asked. "Sure let's go," I agreed. We got up and made our way out of Levi's house.
..
My eyes slowly closed as Brendon played with my hair. We were watching tv while cuddling on the couch. "You have the softest hair in the world oh my god," Brendon mumbled as he twirled my hair. I giggled, changing the channel.
The news came up.
"The missing girl Ella Davis was found stabbed to death in the woods. According to detective Clark Young, the stabbing appears to have been by an ax-"
I turned the tv off. "Holy shit, wait wasn't that your old friend Ella?" Brendon asked. I suddenly felt dizzy. It was the same nauseating feeling I had when I heard about Brendon's house burning down. "Emma?" Brendon asked putting his hand on my cheek. I couldn't think. I couldn't open my mouth to say anything.
'say something, fast before Brendon gets worried.' 'say something. ANYTHING'
I stared at the floor, inhaling sharply, suddenly remembered to breathe. And in an instant, the one thing I tried my best not to think about was the only thing on my mind.
I killed Ella.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys,
So, uh it's been months. I just want to thank everyone who left me amazing messages in the comments when I explained what was going on, I appreciate every single one of them so much. Thank you. I guess things have somewhat gotten better, I'm not entirely sure about my mental health but some of the things I've mentioned last time are good now.
I want to apologize once again for how late my update is. I had no idea I was going to take this long to be able to sit and write. It took me several hours at times trying to force myself to get something written, it never worked(which is why I'm afraid I'll have a hard time writing the next chapter but I promise I'll try my best). Tonight, however, I finally managed to get a whole chapter done. Thank you all so much for being patient and so supportive. Every single one of you is really important to me even if we may not know each other.
If you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm always here to listen to just about anything and everything. If you need to tell someone about something that's bothering you or something amazing that's happened- or even if you're just bored. Feel free to text me whenever :)
-Sarah
