Chapter 21
Since the day in the forest Harry had begun practising with Lupin for his Patronus as well as myself, but I had my lessons separately from Harry. I had gotten closer every time but the spell would drain my energy making me feel slightly sick every time I cast it. Both myself and Lupin were confused at first but we understood that the light from my Patronus, or any for that matter, was bright enough to get through my charmed ring and make me feel ill. Also, since Draco had admitted his feelings to me and I returned them we tried to sneak around our friends to meet each other more then we used to. The best place we could meet was on the edge of the forest as no-one ever went there. I felt bad for hiding my relationship from my friends but I knew that they would hate it if they found out that I was going out with someone they saw as evil. Usually, I would meet Draco after my lessons with Lupin and due to the spell making me feel sick we would just sit down and talk about class and anything else. The past few conversations were about my father and how I was feeling about it. We also talked about Buckbeak and if Draco knew anything about it. He unfortunately didn't know much but he promised that if found something he would tell me. The same day I was hanging out with Ron, Hermione and Harry, I was walking next to Harry who was in deep thoughts whilst Ron and Hermione were arguing making me roll my eyes at the two of them, couldn't they just just admit they like each other by now.
"I find it astonishing that someone who prides herself on being so logical can be in such denial." I roll my eyes at this.
"Harry. Will you explain to your friend Ronald that he has absolutely no proof whatsoever that my sweet, unassuming cat ate his shabby, decidedly decrepit rat." Hermione yelled back. I looked to Harry who looked like he would rather be anywhere else.
"Harry was there! He'll tell you how it was. Go on, Harry, tell her." Ron argued back making Harry quickly turn towards Ron glaring.
"No, I won't. Know why? Because I don't care about your stupid rat! I don't care about your stupid cat! I've got few other things on my mind right now!" I stayed to side with a worried look on my face, I've never seen my friends argue this badly before.
"Really? Wasn't you had to roll under the bed last night to avoid getting cut to ribbons! A person could die being your friend, Harry!" My eyes widen in shock at Ron for what he just said. We all share a look and started to walk but I stopped Ron.
"I would recommend thinking before saying something like that again Ron" I glared at him before following after Harry but stopping glaring at both Ron and Hermione. "Look, Harry is going through something no-one should go through and he really needs his friends right now? So if your going to argue just don't do it in front of Harry" This made them both look down sheepishly as I followed after Harry. We finally made it to the Black Lake where Hagrid was stood knee-deep in the lake wearing a brown suit and a yellow and orange tie. He was skimming giant rocks across the water. When we finally made it to the edge of the lake I caught his eyes and saw they were red and slightly puffy showing he had been crying.
"How'd it go, Hagrid?" Hermione asks.
"Buckbeak liked London." Hagrid answered.
"I meant the hearing."
"Oh. That. Well, I got up an'said my bit -- You know, how Buckbeak was a good Hippogriff an'as long as yeh treated 'im with respect, he'd treat you the same. Then Lucius Malfoy got up an' said his bit -- you know, how Buckbeak was a deadly dangerous beast that no teacher in their righ' mind would expose their students to..." I rolled my eyes at this as much as I loved Draco his dad was a tool.
"And...?" Hermione asks the dread in her voice. Hagrid doesn't answer he slings another rock into the water. "You mustn't blame yourself, Hagrid."
"Draco. It's him the Committee should punish. It's him they should send off to the forest, not Buckbeak." Ron said as I looked away subtly, already hating the fact my friends were unknowingly insulting the one I'm going out with.
"Buckbeak's not going back to the forest..." Hagrid said.
"Where's he going, Hagrid?" Hermione asked again the dread in her voice got stronger.
"He asked fer the worse, yeh see, Lucius Malfoy did. An' the Committee granted it. Buckbeak's bin sentenced ter death." I felt my stomach drop and I walked up to Hagrid not caring that the water was up above my waist I placed a comforting hand on his back as he cried I felt a heat of anger in my heart. I looked up to Hagrid and clenched my fist before walking out of the water and walked past my group of friends.
"Angie, where are you going?" Hermione asked me.
"I just need to go calm down. I'll see you guys in a bit" I walked for a bit until I managed to get to Draco's last class for the day. I caught his eye as I passed the door and gave him a subtle nod to meet me. I waited for him by the forest. When he finally arrived he was smiling and gave me a hug but then he noticed my upset look.
"Angel, what's wrong?" I then explained what was going on with Buckbeak. "I'm sorry Angel, I had no idea my father was taking it to this length" I sighed.
"Isn't there anything you can do?" He thought for a minute before nodding.
"I'll send him a letter and try and convince him to change his mind. But you know how stubborn he is Angel" I nodded my head.
"I know, but I appreciate that your trying."
