Chapter 1~ Lincoln high school's unlikely star
The sun cast its golden glow over Lincoln High School's bustling courtyard. Students laughed and chatted, eager to start another day. Amidst the chaos, Abigail "Abi" Thompson stood out - not for her stunning looks, although she had those in spades, but for her unapologetic individuality.
Abi's long, dark hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, contradicting her black and white school uniform, with a red tie , and scuffed shoes , giving off an air of effortless coolness. Her bright brown eyes sparkled as she high-fived her friends, a mix of guys and girls who admired her fearless spirit.
"Hey, Abi! Crush it on the court today!" her friend Jake called out.
Abi flashed a radiant smile. "You know it!"
As she walked toward her locker, Abi's confidence drew attention. Guys couldn't help but stare, and girls envied her carefree style. Sophia, the senior queen bee, watched from across the courtyard, her gaze laced with subtle unease.
Abi opened her locker, revealing a messy interior. Photos of her brothers, Austin and Bryson, and her basketball team covered the walls. She exchanged her backpack for a gym bag, preparing for her favorite class: Physical Education.
"Hey, Abi!" Bryson, her elder brother, appeared beside her, his messy brown hair sticking out from under his baseball cap. "Need help with math homework?"
Abi rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "You know I've got this, Bryson."
Their banter was interrupted by the bell, signaling the start of another day at Lincoln.
Abi slammed her locker shut, the metallic clang echoing through the hallway. "Time to show those seniors who's boss on the court!"
Bryson chuckled, shaking his head. "You're such a hoop star, Abi."
Abi grinned mischievously. "Somebody's gotta keep the Thompson name alive in Lincoln High's sports hall of fame."
As they walked to their respective classes, Abi's phone buzzed with a text from her best friend, Emily.
"Hey, Abi! Heard Sophia's planning to sabotage your basketball game today. Watch your back!"
Abi's eyes narrowed. Let her Bring it on, I want to see what Sophia can do
'Just be careful' Emily said
Don't worry she can't do anything
Okay if you say so' 'then Emily hang up.
In Physical Education class, Abi dominated the court, sinking three-pointers with ease. Sophia, on the opposing team, scowled with every missed shot.
"Hey, ref! That was a foul!" Sophia protested.
The referee, Mr. Jenkins, raised an eyebrow. "You're just mad 'cause Abi's schooling you, Sophia."
The class erupted into laughter, and Abi flashed a triumphant smile.
After the game, Bryson waited for Abi outside the gym, his backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Hey, champ! You crushed it out there."
Abi beamed, still basking in the adrenaline rush. "Told you I'd show those seniors who's boss."
As they walked to the cafeteria , Sophia intercepted them, her eyes flashing with annoyance.
"Bryson, can I talk to you for a sec?"
Bryson's expression turned polite, but distant. "What's up, Sophia?"
Sophia's voice dropped to a whisper. "I was thinking, maybe we could study together for the math test?"
Abi raised an eyebrow. Sophia's transparent attempt to flirt with Bryson was almost laughable.
Bryson's response was courteous but firm. "Sorry, Sophia. I'm helping Abi with her math homework. Maybe ask someone else?"
Sophia's face fell, but she quickly recovered. "No worries. See you around, Bryson."
As Sophia walked away, Abi whispered, "Dude, she's got it bad for you."
Bryson chuckled. Na that can't happen
As Abi and Bryson walked to the cafeteria they stumbled upon Austin, the second twin, leaning against his locker, surrounded by admirers. At 6'5", Austin was the tallest guy in school, and his charming smile made him irresistible.
Abi grinned, shaking her head. "Austin, you're such a rockstar."
Austin chuckled, ruffling Abi's hair. "Hey, someone's gotta keep the Thompson name famous."
Bryson rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Yeah, with your basketball skills and Abi's math brain, we're unstoppable." and why do you guys keep saying that?
Hey I'm the best female basketball player "Abi said looking at Bryson " So My good skills at basketball ball, Austin handsome looks and your book brain
Austin took his hand out of his pocket and robbed Abi's hair; anyhow you want it
Sophia, lingering nearby, caught Austin's eye and smiled. The two exchanged a tender glance, but Abi noticed Sophia's gaze drifting to Bryson, her expression wistful.
Abi's instincts kicked in.
"Dude, I think Sophia likes you, not Austin." Abi whispered in Bryson's ear
Bryson's brow furrowed. "What? No way. She's Austin's girlfriend." I told you before she doesn't like me
Abi leaned in. "Trust me, I've seen the way she looks at you. And Austin's oblivious."
Bryson's expression turned thoughtful. "That's weird. I've never noticed."
Abi nudged him. "You're too busy with books you don't know when a woman likes you , Bryson."
As they laughed, Austin joined them, Sophia clinging to his arm. Abi noticed Sophia's gaze drifting to Bryson again, her eyes filled with longing.
As the four of them walked to the cafeteria, Abi couldn't shake off the feeling that Sophia's gaze lingered on Bryson a bit too long.
Austin, oblivious to the subtle tension, chatted enthusiastically about the upcoming basketball game against rival school, Oakwood High. "Dude, we're gonna crush them! Abi's got this!"
Sophia smiled, her eyes flicking to Bryson. "I'm sure Bryson will help Abi with her math homework... again."
Ohh I can do my homework by myself and he's not the only one that can help me , we're not even talking about homework here . Abi said
Sophia smiled ; Ohh But Bryson is the best in school works .
Bryson missed the undertone, but Abi caught it. She exchanged a knowing glance with Bryson, who raised an eyebrow.
Abi intervened, steering the conversation to safer topics. "So, Austin, what's your game plan against Oakwood?"
Austin launched into a detailed strategy, Sophia listening intently. Bryson chimed in, offering suggestions.
At their table, Abi sat beside Bryson, Austin and Sophia across from them.
Austin took a bite of his sandwich. "Hey, Bryson, did you finish that English essay?"
Bryson nodded. "Yeah, last night."
Sophia's gaze drifted to Bryson again, her expression soft.
Abi's suspicions grew.
Suddenly, Austin's phone buzzed. "It's Coach Freddy . He wants us to meet before the game."
Bryson stood up. "I've got to go. See you guys later."
As Bryson walked away, Sophia's eyes followed him, her gaze filled with longing.
