Julian Cabot is almost fifty, but he possesses the dangerous knowledge that he's still very hot. Tall and lean, dark brown salt and pepper hair and beard, and broody hazel eyes are a lethal combination, especially with the black-framed glasses he wears. He has a bit of a bad boy look since he favors dark colors and leather jackets when he's working, but he also looks damn fine in a three-piece suit if he has to get fancy. He used to be a lawyer, but after he got disbarred for punching a judge—no, he won't tell anyone why he did it, so don't ask—he became a private investigator. He's very good at it, but it's made him restless. He likes to wander and rarely thinks about putting down roots.

As a result, he has a bit of an evasive personality. He deflects anything serious with massive amounts of charm, flirting, and humor. While it seems as if nothing bothers him, he is quick to anger if he thinks something is unfair, though he tries hard to keep his temper in check. Beyond surviving, he doesn't seem to want much at all. Until he meets Rowan, of course, but you'll have to wait to find out more about that.

Julian rarely mentions whatever family he might have. Most of his hobbies are singular. He enjoys cult movies, reading, space, TED talks, and anything related to true crime. He has a lot of tattoos, too many to count, but good luck getting him to explain what they mean.

He's usually been bouncing around for a while by the time he meets Rowan, though he's still a lawyer on occasion. In that case, he's working too hard to pursue a relationship. As an investigator, the abrupt change in his life doesn't appear to have had an effect on him, but he's clearly lonely, and Rowan sees right through his tough guy act to the desire for companionship underneath. They most often meet because they're working together or because Julian is investigating something she can answer questions about. Sex is their primary connection, at least initially. Julian is rather dominant, and Rowan is rather submissive, so they both appreciate each other in that regard. Sometimes they get into pretty intense BDSM.

My favorite thing about Julian is how insistent he is about his lack of emotion, even though he possesses it in spades. It's always fun to see how Rowan will manage to break down his walls and make him admit that even grumpy old men can find happily ever afters.
