Dr. Gwyneth Arden, Gwyn to her friends, is in her prime. At the age of forty, she's achieved tremendous success as a cardiovascular surgeon. She's professional, authoritative, empathetic, and no one dares to mess with her. She's also a knockout with her bright red hair and big blue eyes, though everyone at work knows better than to hit on her.

Now, Gwyn has time to think more about her personal life. She's only into women, and while she's never had a problem picking them up, there's one in particular she'd like to be with. Her best friend Rowan. She's just always been too busy, and frankly too nervous, to ask. Even though the two women know everything about each other, she's afraid that something will turn Rowan off.

Perhaps her inclination towards dominance in the bedroom. Perhaps her very demanding job, which doesn't leave a lot of time for hobbies, though she will readily devour true crime novels and is a wine connoisseur and often goes to tastings when she's on vacation. Perhaps the fact that she, like Rowan, has no extended family to offer. Whatever the reason, she's reluctant, and it usually takes something big for her to risk the confession.

Rowan, of course, is generally quite eager to return Gwyn's affections, despite her own reservations that she's not good enough for this fantastic woman.

But when they finally get over their insecurities, they tend to live happily ever after, and the sex, obviously, is ridiculously hot.
