Chapter 2

Timothy brought the cup of tea to the lounge where I was busy packing my books into the bookcase. I took the cup with a grateful smile as we sat down on the couch. The divorce papers seemed to stare at us from the coffee table. I looked at the pen and wondered of I'll have the courage to pick it up.

"Are you ready to sign them?" he asked softly.

"I don't think I'll ever be ready," I muttered under my breath as I picked up the pen. My heart wrenched out of my chest as my hand hovered over the paper. I put down the pen. My hand rested on the little box in my pocket. It felt extra heavy, drawing my attention away from the papers. I hesitated, I looked at Tim, gaging his mood. Deciding that it couldn't do a lot of harm, I took out the little box and stared at it.

"What's that?"

"You won't believe me if I told you," I giggled, fiddling with the ribbon wrapped around it. I still cannot believe the exchange really happened, but here we are, holding a gift box.

"Come on, Bee -"

"I didn't mean it like that, it's just..." I sighed and put the box down on the divorce papers, "Nevermind, just open it."

He picked it up and without a moment's hesitation, he opened it. It's one of the reasons I love him so much, his decisiveness matches my indecisiveness so perfectly. He's come to my rescue so many times by deciding things that I just couldn't manage to decide for myself. Maybe that makes me sound weak, maybe I am. Maybe that's why this divorce is necessary.

"It's a seed," he grunted, "Is this a joke? A metaphor of some kind about starting a new life?"

"No, Timothy," I sighed, "A fair.. I found it outside. Wrapped up like that, I didn't know what was inside it."

"Let's just get this over with," he muttered, he swiped the seed off the table, knocking my tea off with it. The second the tea and the seed made contact with each other it exploded. But, not a Michael Bay movie explosion, more like a pumpkin turning into a carriage magical poof. Glittering lights swirled out of the seed shaped like a lily, then disappeared.

I couldn't believe my eyes. And neither could Timothy, by the look on his face. My suspicions about his shock was confirmed when he grabbed my hand. We both stared at the place the seed used to be with awe.

"Is that a-?"

"Yes, well, it has to be..."

"But how?"

"I don't know. But, it is beautiful."

"Pick it up," Timothy whispered, mesmerised.
