CHOOSING SUBJECTS
Third years had to take extra subjects from then on.
"Arithmancy, Muggle Studies, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, Study of Ancient Runes," read out Remus from a paper that Professor McGonagall had given them. "We'll need to take two."
"Divination is a faulty subject. Everyone says that," said Peter
"Let's take it all then. Bet we'll not have to work hard for it," said James.
"It'll not be useful in future life," protested Remus.
"Moony—don't be a spoilsport," said James.
"Ok, Moony—you choose one subject, and we choose the other," said Sirius.
"Do we have to take the same subjects?" asked Remus timidly.
"Of course!" cried all three of them, looking scandalised.
"All right, all right. Just checking," muttered Remus. "We'd better take Muggle Studies too, then. Looks like it'll be useful."
His friends agreed.

The burden of extra subjects were made up by the cheerful prospect of the of their first Hogsmeade visit.
"Hogsmeade is the only entirely non-Muggle settlement in Britain," Remus told them the day they saw the notice. "It's really fascinating from a historical point of view. Do you know, it was the headquarters of the Goblin Rebellion in 1612—" Remus continued in this strain for a few minutes.
"If you don't mind, please shut up, Moony," said Sirius, groaning.
"Yes, please," said James and Peter at once.
Remus looked a little hurt.
Sirius and James simultaneously dashed to hug him, and Remus almost overbalanced.
"That's enough," he said crossly.
Lily had overheard the conversation, as she had been sitting nearby with Marlene and Mary.
She stopped Remus that evening and said, "I don't know how you can stand to be friends with them. They obviously don't have any respct for you. Potter and Black are so arrogant—so rude—they are so different from you, Remus. How can you stand them?"
"They are not like you think them, Lily," said Remus, with quiet conviction. He smiled fondly at his friends who were fooling around in the common room with a couple of first year boys.
Lily shook her head and left.
Remus got further proof of his statement that night. It was full moon after two nights, and Remus found a heap of chocolate stuff on his bedside table, with a note signed by James, Sirius and Peter.
"You deserve a prize for your knowledge in Goblin Rebellions."
Remus rolled his eyes and smiled. The other three were watching him.
"When will you all grow up?"
"One grown up is enough in a dorm, Moony," retorted Sirius.
"We'll do our best to become Animagi this year," said James suddenly.
"Yes, we will," agreed Sirius and Peter.

Griffindor Quidditch trails were held at the end of September. Sirius tried for Beater as Gideon Prewett had passed out. James was extremely excited before the trials.
"Sirius plays awfully well, Dorcas," said James.
"We'll see," said Dorcas drily.
"And if he is in the team, we'll win this year's cup for sure! Because if he is here, we will all be inspired, and play better too!!"
"James Potter, are you trying to buy Sirius into the team?" asked Dorcas sternly. "Go and take your place immediately."
Fortunately for James, Sirius flew very well, and was selected in the team.
"And of course, there's your natural inborn violence," said Remus drily, as they returned to the common room in a celebratory mood.
"You'll make a good Beater!" called Marlene.
