29. Third Memory

Allison rubs her head as we all stand up in a shady hall way. This time, the time traveling took its toil on Allison, like it did on Ethan and I in the first and second memories.

This hall way is really dark, eventhough it is shining bright outside.

It looks like everything has been decolourised here. The once exuberant setting has now changed to a dull background.

I guess we're in the 1890 Edenfield.

I look out of the window and see that Henry is pacing in the gardens in a black suit and a grim expression. He looks, as though, he hasn't slept in days. He has light marks under his eyes.

It is shiny outside, which is why I'm clearly able to decipher his get-up.

Dylan motions us to go outside into the gardens and Ethan, Allison and I follow him.

Before going around the corner to the gardens, I see a door opening.

Isabelle walks out from the parlour room, leaving the door a bit ajar. From the little view I have, I see several men and women sitting.

She moves up the staircase with her arms across her chest. She is also wearing a black gown, opposite to her golden dress at the ball. She has the same expression as Henry.

"Lindsey, come on," Ethan calls out to me, as I am standing, staring at my douppleganger. It really is weird to see with the exact same face and body structure as yours.

I shake my head to rid it of my thoughts and join the group.

As we are walking, I notice several male and female maids walking briskly to do their daily duties.

We turn around the corner and walk past the Main Entrance.

All of us turn our head side-ways to find Henry. I see him sitting alone on a stone bench. He looks like he's deep in thought. We approach him and he looks up at us.

Instead of his usual smiling greet, he looks at us solemnly.

"So, you have all arrived," he says as he stands up and straitghtens his posture.

"You ought to come with me for a walk." He starts walking towards the gate and the workere there, open it for him.

The gate closes when the rest of us reach it. Henry looks back at us and nods his head.

What...

Allison places her fingers on the gate and it goes right through the gate

Her eyebrows arch up as she easily moves the rest of her arm through the gate bars.

She looks at us while Ethan and I just shrug. Dylan is the first one to move in through the gate, following Allison, Ethan and I.

I feel a chill run down my spine as the move through the once solid gate.

"I guess we can move through solid objects again," Ethan says.

"Yeah..." I say as I adjust my jacket around myself.

I look up at the sky and see clouds now settling in the vicinity. Everthing suddenly becomes dull and grey.

Like our hearts.

Mostly, we say that there are only two kind of people: good and bad, or white and black. The white symbolising the good and black representing evil.

In actuality, we aren't entirely white or black. We have both white and black traits, which make mixed shades in us: shades of grey to be exact.

The wind kisses the strand of stray hair out of my face as we walk on the stone path. Unlike my modern day neighbourhood, there are fewer houses here and a lot of greenery, too.

Henry stops adruptly, looks around and turns back at us.

"You remember Lindsey, when I told you that certain things are not in the norm and that I will inform you if anything is too troubling?"

I am a little taken aback by Henry's sudden speech.

Certain things are not in the norm. But I will inform you if anything is too troubling.

I recall Henry's words as I nod my head.
"What's not in the norm?" I ask.

"I am not quite certain but I have to warn you all to be cautious." He looks at us and I think the others are thinking the exact same thing as me.

Cautious about what?

I hear the sound of footsteps and shuffling of a few fallen leaves. Henry turns around and quickly says,
"Stay here and when Timothy Ingram comes here, follow him to Edenfield. You all have some things to see regarding Isabelle and him."

Henry walks forward, leaving us alone on the path. Dylan looks up at the sky and says,
"I think it'll rain soon."

Come on, Timothy... hurry...
I don't want to get wet in the rain and catch a cold.

I think I hear two men talking in the distance, probably Henry and Timothy.

After a good five minutes or so, I see Timothy walking towards us, probabaly to Edenfield.

We move aside for him to pass, even though we know that he can easily walk past our own bodies.

Timothy also has a serious expression on his face as he takes quick and large steps towards Edenfield. Dylan, Ethan, Allison and I find it kind of hard to keep up with his pace.

He reaches the gates and the servants there, open it after seeing who the visitor is.

Instead of entering through the Main Entrance, he walks to the far east of gardens-- shadowed by trees.
We pick up our pace and the grass beneath us soon turns into a stone pathway at the back. There are two servants there who look up at seeing a man in a suit at the back.
Sighing, Timothy reaches into his pocket and reveals a pouch-- probably of coins. He hands them this and whispers,
"Please, don't gossip about my entrance through here."

They nod and let him pass through the backdoor.

Coming back to life, the rest of us also dodge and turn like Timothy.

"Mr Ingram?" Timothy stops at hearing Elizabeth's voice.
He slowly turns to her and she shakes her head. "Pray sir, I won't utter a word." She smiles and goes on her way-- making Timothy sigh in relief.

Trying his best to hide a grown man like himself, he turns to the lower section of the library and opens its doors.

Isabelle is sitting on a single set spfa, reading some book. She looks up and her eyes widen.

"Timothy? You... How did you know I would be here?"

Her blue eyes hide a smirk but I can also see a slight blush rising up in her cheeks.

"You always pay the library a visit at this time."

Isabelle averts her eyes as she motions for Timothy to sit on the double seat couch next to herself.

Timothy sits on the sofa and places his top hat on a table nearby.

"I...." Isabelle tries to say something but she ends up sighing.

"You don't have to talk if you do not want to. It's only me," Timothy says, sensing Isabelle's uneasiness.

She looks up and smiles at him,
"Thank you."

"You need not thank me."
Timothy smiles at her as he puts his hand on top of Isabelle's. Isabelle doesn't back away her hand.

They look at each other with a steady gaze. It's almost like they are talking through eachother's eyes, instead of their lips.

A sudden knock on the door brings them both into reality. Timothy quickly takes his hand off of Isabelle's.

A housemaid-- probably sent by Elizabeth enters with a tray witha  dish coverer on top.

"That will not be necessary. I was leaving, actually," Timothy says.

The maid takes the tray and leaves the room.

"Way to spoil the mood!" Ethan jokes, and again earns a 'shush!' from Allison.

He rolls his eyes and leans backward.

His back moves right through the wall he was leaning against, while his lower body is still in the room.

Dylan and Allison's jaws drop along with mine.

We hear Ethan saying,
"Hey, look here!"

I put my head against the wall, half expecting it to remain solid but my head slides easily through it.

Henry is behind the door with his arm raised to open it. He stops midway as he hears some voices.

Ethan and I also shift our bodies towards the library, so that we can hear the conversation.

Timothy stands up from his seat and Isabelle also does.

He is about to open the door when Isabelle calls out from behind.

"Timothy... you do know that there are certain things that I wish to tell you.."

"But, you do not deem the timing appropriate," Timothy finishes for her.

He smiles at her as he says,
"I also have certain things to tell you but I know that this is not the proper time."

"Do you have to go at this moment?" she says.

"I would have stayed a bit longer if not for gossiping persons sitting in your parlour room. I already bribed two workers and came through the back door," Timothy says, earning a smile from Isabelle.

She shakes her head playfully, allowing Timothy to leave.

Instead of walking out of the room, Timothy tilts his head a bit and closes the door behind him. He walks over to Isabelle and stands at a distance of few centimetres.

Isabelle blinks her eyes a few times as Timithy holds both of his hands towards her. She looks at him and he nods.

She slides her hands into his and Timothy bends down and presses his forehead against their enclapsed hands.
"Just remember, Isabelle...
I value your honour above all things, but my heart shall always answer to you when you need it."

After a few seconds, he straightens himself and walks out of room, gently closing the door behind him and leaving Isabelle switching her sight from her hands to the door.

Both of them really do have true feelings between them.

I look through the wall again and see that Henry is no longer there.

"I wonder where Henry went," I say.

"I saw him turning around the corner as soon as Timothy opened the door," Dylan says.

Allison, Ethan and I look questionly at Dylan at how does he know that.

Dylan notes our stares and says,
"What? I started looking out there when Ethan said that Henry's at the other side."

Suddenly, the scene fades away and clouds appear.

I can't see anything now.

I really don't like these clouds.

The last thing that I think I see is, Meredith coming  into the library.

*a minion voice*

Tada!
As you can all see, the new update is here but with a catch...

*cough* cliffhanger *cough*

Oh, you guys guessed it right! I added a cliffhanger. I just couldn't resist doing that this time;-)

I almost forgot, I didn't remember to mention earlier that 'jibber slickers' (the word Gellert Palmer calls Lindsey, Ethan and Allison) is not an actual word. I made it up using two entirely different words.

Jibber means a lot of useless chit chat and slicker means a person who is very cunning or clever(note the negative connotation). So, jibber slicker(according to Gellert Palmer) means a person(mostly a teen, again only Gellert's opinion) who talks a lot of nonsense but is actually quite clever.

Also, an aglet is the small piece of rubber at the end of every shoelace that keeps the strings together.

Thank you to Phineas and Ferb for the aglet part;-)

I wanted to let you guys know that I have an entire collection of pictures related to this book on
we♡it under the name 'The Ghost's Diary'. I've posted Lindsey's hair-do and tiara from her Nutcracker play there(wattpad won't let me post it here).

My we♡it account is by the username
@mszame0

Okay, that's it for today. See you all next week(maybe because I might have to go to my dad's cousin's engagement).

Anyways, what do you guys think of Isabelle and Timothy?

Avoid weird typos.

Love,
MS Zame
