Chapter 11: Desperate Measures
Claire had had enough. With each passing night, the hauntings grew more violent, and she feared for her daughter's safety. The ghostly apparitions, the icy cold, and the unnatural activity in the house were too much to bear.
She went to the village priest, Father Paul, a quiet man who had lived in Ravenbrook all his life. When she told him what had been happening, his face grew pale. He knew the legend of Evelyn well.
"The Ghost Mother's wrath is eternal," he said gravely. "Her soul is tethered to the house, bound by her love for her children and her anger at their loss. She seeks to protect, but her anger has twisted her. You must leave the house. Leave the village."
"But she'll follow us, won't she?" Claire asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Father Paul hesitated before answering. "Evelyn's spirit is bound to this land, to the house where she died. But she may let you go if she believes her mission is fulfilled."
