Chapter 31: Decisions

Third Person POV

"Do you want to come back to Gotham with me and Bruce?" Dick asked seriously.

Danny was silent. Return to Gotham with his old family or stay in Amity Park with his new one; it was a tough choice. He didn't know how to answer it. A part of him wanted to stay in Amity Park with his new family and friends and continue to be Amity Park's protector, yet another part of him wanted to go to Gotham with Bruce and Dick so he could go back to his old life. Danny bit his lip as he continued to think over his options.

"You don't have to answer us now." Bruce said, interrupting Danny's thoughts. The teen looked to the older man, seeing the understanding in his eyes. Bruce knew that this was a major choice for Danny, he didn't want Danny to feel pressured to answer them that moment and make a choice he wouldn't be happy with later. "Dick and I are going to be in Amity Park until Monday afternoon." the billionaire stated. He stood and walked over to Danny, handing him business card. "This is my contact information and on the back is the hotel we are staying at. When you've made your decision let us know." Bruce knelt in front of Danny, still seeing the unsure and conflicted look in the teen's eyes. "You take as long as you need to think about this. Whether it be a day, a week, or even a month, take your time." The young halfa locked eyes with Bruce. "The choice has to be your own. What you want."

Bruce stood and Dick followed suit, shooting a small smile at Danny and his family. Bruce walked back over to the couch and picked up the silver briefcase. Maddie and Jack stood to show them out while Jazz took Maddie's spot beside Danny to talk to her brother.

Once outside, Dick and Bruce piled into limousine. As it pulled away from the large building Bruce set the briefcase on the floor, leaning back into the leather seats. He looked at Dick from the corner of his eye and saw the teen's troubled expression. "Are you upset, Dick?" Bruce asked.

Dick sighed softly, scratching his head. "I don't know. I don't think I am." The teen pinched the bridge of his nose. "I just... I finally found him... After all this time, I found him." Dick went silent for a moment before continuing. "He has a new family, a new life. It wouldn't be right to take him away from that."

Bruce turned to his young ward and placed a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder. The two vigilantes locked eyes. "Whatever Danny chooses, will you accept it?" He asked simply.

The silence that followed the question was long as Dick thought over what Bruce had asked. If Danny chose to stay in Amity Park, would he accept it? He had devoted so much time searching for Danny, so many sleepless nights endlessly looking for any clue on where his brother might be. To let his younger brother go, could he do it?

"Yes." Dick replied, nodding, "If it means Danny will be happy, then I'll be happy too. No matter what he chooses." Bruce nodded, patting the teen on the shoulder and Dick smiled. "Besides, even if he stays there's nothing saying that I can't drop by and visit him."

Bruce chuckled lightly, glad to see that his young ward's mood had lifted. "Good. I left Barbara and Alfred in charge of watching over Gotham since crime has been slow lately so we can afford to take a few days off." Dick's eyes widened when he heard Bruce - the man who would never skip a night of patrol even if he was on his deathbed -  say that he was okay with taking a few days off. "Now, I suggest we get back to the hotel and get some rest."  The billionaire told him.

Dick raised an eyebrow, confused. "What for?" He asked, "We're not on duty here, and you don't actually have any business in Amity Park... Right?"

Bruce stared out the window, up at the cloudless blue sky. He squinted as he scanned the surrounding buildings and alleyways. This was new territory to him, he was at a disadvantage. He felt like someone was watching them. Or, could it be something else? Bruce turned his head to look out the rear window of the limo as the Fenton Works sign grew smaller and smaller. Bruce frowned, "I have a strange feeling we aren't the only ones with our eyes on Daniel Grayson."

Normal Line Break here. Hey, does anyone want to start a fund for me to go on vacation? Or you know, maybe just buy me a coffee or something?

Danny sat in his living room, rubbing his thumb over the smooth surface of the business card. Jazz sat by his side holding him close. Maddie and Jack came back into the room and, seeing their adoptive son look so troubled, moved their chairs so that they all sat in a 'sort-of' circle.

"I don't know what to do." Danny whispered, placing the card and the papers given to him by Bruce Wayne on the floor beside him. The young halfa felt completely and utterly confused. His whole world was changing around him. Everything was going by so fast he couldn't keep up with it. And now this? Being asked whether or not he wants to return to his original home with his old family is a pretty big question. Bruce was kind to say that he could take as long as he needed to make up his mind but, Danny knew he would have to give the older man an answer sooner or later.

Maddie reached out for Danny's hands, but paused halfway and instead placed her hands in her lap. She bit her lip as she looked upon Danny's torn expression. In all the time that the young teen had been with them they had come to see him as a true family member. Sometimes they actually forgot that he wasn't their blood son. But even though he wasn't related to them by blood, he had a special place in all their hearts. The Fenton's were a loving family of four, nothing would change that. Whatever Danny chose to do, they would accept it.

Danny looked up at Jack and Maddie, hoping they would give him some kind of clue for what he should choose. The elder Fenton's shook their heads. "This has to be your decision Danny." Maddie told him, reaching out to him and gently grasping his hand. "Whatever you choose, we will always support you."

"That's right!" Jack exclaimed happily. "You're a Fenton! Not only that, you're Jack Fenton's son!" Maddie elbowed her husband in the side and he looked down at her sheepishly. "A-And Maddie Fenton's son too." He added quickly. Jack smiled widely at the distressed teen as he leaned forward to ruffle Danny's hair, "You are, and always will be, a Fenton. Nothing, not even you living with Mr. Wayne, would change that."

Danny offered the large man a smile as Jazz reassuringly squeezed his shoulder. Danny grabbed his adoptive sister's hand and gave it a quick squeeze before removing it from his shoulder. He stood from his seat looking at his family. "Thanks you guys. But, I really think I need to be alone for a while. Just to think things over." Danny said, rubbing the back of his neck.

His family, despite their own individual thoughts on the matter, nodded in understanding. They knew this was a big decision for Danny and it was one he needed to make on his own. The young halfa exited the room and quickly ducked around the closest corner, transforming into his alter ego in the process. He quickly activated his intangibility and flew upwards, exiting the house via the roof.

Jazz, Maddie and Jack remained in the living room, all sheltering selfish emotions in their hearts. They didn't want to give Danny up but as long as he was happy, they would be happy. Even if it meant they may never see him again.

Meanwhile, Danny flew through the evening sky. Cool wind breezed through his hair and helped him feel relaxed. The teen landed on the roof of a nearby building and pulled out his cellphone. He quickly dialed a number and held the phone to his ear as it began to ring.

"Hello?" Sam's voice asked from the other side of the line.

Danny smiled. It was always a comfort to hear his girlfriend's voice. "Hey Sam." Danny answered quietly.

"Danny? Are you okay? What's wrong?" Sam asked almost immediately after Danny finished his reply.

The young halfa couldn't help but chuckle softly to himself. Sam could always see right through him. "I was wondering if I could come over for a bit. I need to talk to you. Tucker as well." Danny said, his tone serious.

"Uh, yeah, sure." Sam answered. Her tone was concerned and Danny felt bad for making her worry, but he wanted to talk to her in person, not over the phone. "My parents are out at a charity gala so we'll have the house to ourselves. But seriously Danny, what's wrong?" Sam was sounding less concerned and more annoyed now. She wanted an answer from Danny, not all of these riddles.

Danny shook his head, but quickly remembered that he was talking to Sam over the phone and she couldn't see him. "I'll tell you guys everything once we meet up. I promise." Danny told her.

The goth let out a heavy sigh. "Okay, I'll hold you to that promise. But I swear, you tell a single lie or keep something to yourself you'll meet the business end of a combat boot, ghost kid." Sam threatened, her tone only half serious.

Danny laughed and said a quick goodbye before hanging up. A smile graced his features now as he took off into the sky towards Sam's home. He sent a quick text to Tucker telling him to meet him at Sam's house for a special reason. Tucker's response was similar to Sam's, but with less threats about beating him up.

Danny couldn't help but feel like a small bit of weight had been lifted off his chest. His friends never failed to cheer him up. He knew he could talk to them about his current situation. Maybe they could even help him try and figure this whole situation out. Danny's eyes widened as he realized he would first have to tell them that his past family had found him and he had finally learned of his forgotten past. The teen winced as he could already heard their cries of disbelief ringing in his ears.

i am the littlest line break here to provide you with a cuteness break ;) ^-^ i hope you enjoy the rest of the chapter!

"Okay so, just to recap, your biological parents are dead leaving you and your older brother as orphans. You were then taken in by an extremely rich businessman named Bruce Wayne and he raised you as his own. Now he and your brother have found you again after about two years and they asked you to go home with them." Tucker said, sitting on Sam's bed.

The three friends were currently in Sam's room with the house to themselves. Which Danny had been thankful for because he had been right about the cries of disbelief. They all sat on the goth's bed as Danny told them all of what had happened to him that afternoon.

Danny nodded as Tucker finished his 'recap' of what Danny had told them. He couldn't help but smile as he listened to Tucker repeat what he had said. If he was being honest, it all sounded a bit unbelievable.

Sam leaned against her headboard and crossed her arms, frowning. "There's just something that doesn't sit right with me about everything you just said." She stated, furrowing her brow.

The two boys looked at her confused. "Sam?" Danny questioned, tilting his head.

The goth girl leaned forward, crossing her legs and resting her elbows on her knees as she balanced her chin on her hands. "Mr. Wayne's story about you losing your memories." She said, a thoughtful look in her eyes. Tucker and Danny leaned closer to her to hear her reasoning as they could tell Sam was serious about this.

"Let's go through the facts," she began, "Mr. Wayne told you that you and your brother were messing around in the manor when you fell down a flight of stairs, hitting your head many times." Danny nodded to confirm her facts. Sam continued, "You were taken to the hospital to make sure that you didn't have any serious injuries." Danny nodded again. "And then, according to Mr. Wayne, you woke up in panic, attacking your doctor and fleeing out onto the streets." She finished.

Danny nodded a third time, still confused. "So what about all of this doesn't make sense to you?" He asked politely.

Sam frowned, "Why would you panic when you woke up and then attack your doctor?" She questioned, "Plus, I would imagine hospitals have very good security and even a newbie could catch a disoriented 14-year-old."

Tucker placed a hand on his chin, becoming consumed by his thoughts. Sam's words were getting through to him and he was also now starting to notice the tiny holes in Mr. Wayne's tale. "Actually, now that I think about it," he began, "amnesia is normally caused by a serious accident. Something like falling down a flight of stairs and hitting your head a few times doesn't sound like a cause for long-lasting amnesia."

The young halfa opened his mouth to offer a retort, but found himself seeing the truth in Sam's words. Why would he attack his doctor? Why wouldn't the hospital security be able to stop him? Why would a fall down the stairs make him forget everything about his past? "Something about all of this doesn't add up." He muttered under his breath. The teen looked to his friends, "So what do you think I should do?"

Sam and Tucker shared a pained look. Danny was their best friend and they didn't want to lose him. It was practically magic that the goth and the geek had even become friends in the first place and even then they rarely got along. When Danny came into their lives everything changed. That selfish part in their hearts screamed at them to tell Danny to turn down Mr. Wayne's offer and stay in Amity Park with them, but they knew they couldn't do that. After all, Danny wouldn't do it to them.

Sam sighed, placing her head in her hands. She chuckled softly, "To think we finally admit our feelings for each other and now you're about to leave." She thought to herself. The goth faced her boyfriend, a smile on her face. "It's your choice Danny. Whatever you choose, we'll always be your friends." She told him.

Tucker smiled and lightly punched the young halfa's arm, "Yeah, no one can split up Team Phantom!"

Danny felt tears threatening to spill over as he looked at his friends. His best friends. The two people who had been there for him this whole time. They had gone through the best and worst of times together. He couldn't possibly ask for better friends.

"You guys," Danny sniffed, wiping away tears, "are the best."

Seeing Danny cry made Tucker and Sam begin to tear up as well. They all moved closer together and embraced in a group hug. They laughed, they smiled, they cried, it was an emotional roller-coaster.

When they finally separated, Tucker was struck with a brilliant idea. "Hey!" He exclaimed, turning to Danny excitedly. "Mr. Wayne and your brother never said anything specific about going back to Gotham with them, right?"

Danny thought back to their conversation, recalling no major details aside from the question and Mr. Wayne saying he could take as long as he needed to figure things out.

The teen shook his head and Tucker smiled. "Perfect!" He said, pumping his fist. Sam and Danny looked upon their excited friend, confused and potentially concerned about what he was so excited about. Tucker quickly explained his idea, "You could go back to Gotham on a trial period." He informed them. "You could stay in Gotham for a few months or however long you want just to get a feel for it. Then you can decide if you want to stay in Gotham or come back to Amity Park." He explained.

Danny mulled over his friend's idea, and found it actually be quite clever. He then realized the flaw in the technogeek's plan. "But what about Amity Park?" Danny asked, suddenly panicked, "If I leave, then that means Amity Park will lose its hero again! And if a ghost attacks then-"

Danny was cut off by Sam placing a hand on his shoulder. The two locked eyes and Danny felt himself calm down by staring into her violet irises. "I'm sure that Tucker and I, along with Jazz and your parents and maybe even Valerie, can take care of this town while you're gone." She said with a smile.

Danny smiled back, reaching for her hand on his shoulder and clasping it. "Best. Girlfriend. Ever." He said, his smile turning sly.

Sam raised an eyebrow and gave him a peck on the cheek, "You better call every night or I'll go to Gotham myself to give you a taste of my combat boots."

"Ugh guys! I'm still here you know!" Tucker cried, grossed out slightly by the two lovebirds. He stood up from the bed and headed for the door, "Give a guy some warning next time would ya?" He muttered on his way out. Tucker paused in the doorway and looked over his shoulder. "I'm gonna head down to the kitchen. Call me when you're done with the mushy stuff."

Sam and Danny laughed as Tucker walked out of the room, only for him to race back in and slam the door behind him. "Sam's parents are home!" Tucker whispered-yelled.

Sam and Danny's eyes widened and the three teens raced towards the window, with Danny transforming mid-run. He gave Sam a quick goodnight kiss before grabbing Tucker and flying out the window. He would take Tucker home and then head back to his house where a lecture was no doubt waiting for him as he was way late for his curfew. But, he had finally come to a decision. And, though he still felt uneasy about the whole thing, Danny was sure that he was doing the right thing.
